I always recommend them over other seafood places in the area. 4 out of 5 times I am satisfied. Subtract one star because they tend to close early whenever they feel like it. This has happened to me at least 3 times. Certain staff members could be just a bit more friendly. I will return.

We have been going to Clam Haven often, now that they are closed for season, we figured we would try this place, what a disappointment, clams were tasteless and husband said fried haddock was not good !!! Will not return, don’t waste your money !!!

Enjoyed a lobster roll, haddock platter, clam strips, chicken tenders and fries today. We’re from Florida and know good seafood when we taste it. Well worth the visit every time we’re in town.

First time here and was pleased. We ordered take out. My husband and I split the regular sized seafood platter. It was more than enough food — says a lot because my husband is 6’7 and 320 lbs. Seafood platter($ 24.95) came with a good helping of whole belly clams, 4 fried shrimp, good helping of scallops, 4 decent size pieces of haddock and one smelt(had never had one before and can’t say I’ll have it again, too fishy for my taste), also served with french fries, onion rings and coleslaw. Everything was hot and fresh, with one exception — we also ordered a bowl of clam chowder. When the owner brought it out he said that it was luke warm and to make sure we reheated it at home and to add some milk to it. This was a turn off. Had I known this(my husband ordered it when he went back in to pick up the rest of our food), I wouldn’t have ordered it. It was just before closing(8 p.m. on a Saturday night) and maybe it was put away, however if you’re serving something lukewarm it would have been a nice gesture to not charge full price for it. Just my opinion. Other than that, no complaints. I would go back.

The fresh made coleslaw is very, very good. Fried Haddock is excellent. Just be sure you order the sanwich with no bread or you will. pay 13 bucks for fish, fries and coleslaw ehen you could have the same thing for 7 dollars if you order a haddock san, no bread, fries and cole slaw. onion rings are extra charge. Tartar sauce is extra charge. I live 1 block away and would eat there more often if the pricing wasn’t so … hard to understand. Dining room is clean and dark Just be sure that the prices on the menu board are the same as the prices you are actually charged.

This was the worst meal I have ever had in my life and that is no exaggeration. My wife and I both got lobster bisque which was brown in color, as thick as baby food, and had little balls of corn starch in it. My wife ordered lobster pie which was frozen and had a sour taste to it, they said they would take it back and give her something else, she got a lobster roll. This was shredded with some lobster meat and some other filler, it was like tuna fish. I got fried fish and scollops, the scollops were just ok but the fish was not cooked all the way, was probably frozen, and put into a fryer that was not hot enough and soaked up the oil like a sponge. Do your self a favor and go 1 mile up the road to the clam haven.

Great steak tips, burger, baked haddok. Good sized portion. But really their steak tips were awesome so awesome that I order them at a fish place and I love fishes.

The lobster bisque was not good. I’m not even sure what you would call the color of it. It just had an odd taste. Order clams(fried and steamers) and the were just way to chewy and gritty. Onion rings were decent and the staff was very friendly. Diningroom was clean.

STAYAWAY! The lobster bisque was AWFUL. Even if it had been warm it would of been bad. My daughters Milk was sour… do they cook with that sour milk? I was scared to eat what came next… it was mediocre at best. Ive heard people love the coleslaw though. Do yourself a favor and drive to clam haven or the beach.

Came here looking for a great lobster roll, and I definitely found it. I’m from California, and any time I am in the Northeast I make a pointt o stop and get a lobster roll somewhere. The(I assume) owner was friendly taking my order and seemed to be chatting it up with other customers who were regulars. I also overheard him putting together a large order of lobsters and other seafood for a customer to take home(several hundred dollars worth), and they were knocking off a ¼−½ pound from the weight of each to bring the price down a little. Has nothing to do with the food quality, but goes to show that they care more about their customers. The lobster roll I got at first appeared to be a bunch of mushed up lobster heavy on the mayo. But on further inspection I realized it was entirely made up of claw meat which I’ve never had. There were at least 6 whole claws in the sandwich, maybe more, as well as plenty of broken up claw meat. The texture was different than what I’ve had before, it was much more tender and so sweet tasting. There’s a small amount of leaf lettuce on the bun, which I actually liked this time. Normally I hate lettuce on my roll, as it’s usually way too much of some crunchy romain or iceberg. I think the roll was $ 16.95, not cheap but not expensive. It was LOADED with meat though and I would definitely go back again.

Not many people here… well actually I am the only customer. I have to say the food was very good and fresh but the atmosphere was less than desirable.

A good quality fish shack that you do not have to drive to the coast to get your fried seafood fix. I usually get take out on my way home from work. They have decent fries(frozen) and fish ranging from very good to good depending on the day of the week and what is fresh. The quality can be inconsistent.

I came here for the lobster roll and it did not disappoint. There was ample pieces of lobster and it was not overpowered by any sort of sauce or seasoning. It reminded me of the lobster roll I ate at James Hook in Boston. The roll was a piece of buttered bread, served with a piece of iceburg lettuce, which really should be taken out. The roll came with fries and coleslaw. The fries were good, fried perfectly and crispy. The coleslaw was ok. I also ordered the seafood chowder and it was an underwhelming, one note dish. The chowder needed salt and was rather bland. The restaurant could be so much better, if they would just tidy up the place and clean up the tables after people. During my time at the restaurant, I didn’t see a single employee wipe down any of the tables after customers had left. There is a fine line between a dive and a dirty place and this establishment leans toward the dirty side. Finally, based on what everyone else was getting, the fried items seem to be very popular.

My mother, when she was alive, would have daily dreams about visting the Lobster Claw. Unlike me, she was a seafood fanatic and it was her belief that the Lobster Claw was the best in the area. While I don’t enjoy most seafood, you can’t be a native from New England and not enjoy at least some seafood. Every so often, I will eat a lobster roll. There are so many places that serve inferior lobster rolls in New England, it can be a challenge to find one that is properly made. The Lobster Claw, as their name implies, serves lobster; specifically, they serve lobster rolls. In fact, they serve excellent lobster rolls and this is where I go when I want one. Their version is chock-full of lobster meat with claw and other lobster meat being equally balanced. The sandwich is served in the traditional New England-style roll which is toasted. There is light lettuce and celery. You’ll need a fork and knife to work your way through the sandwich. I believe that their version is more generous than the lobster sandwiches served at that other New England institution, Kelly’s Roast Beef. Kelly’s serves a fine lobster roll; but, it is not as big as the one you’ll get at the Lobster Claw. As other reviewers have noted, the dining room is straight out of the 60’s complete with campy sea captain brick-a-brack. In the summer the seafood odors can get a little funky so you’ll want to sit outside.

They’re a casual, inexpensive, reliable source of good north Atlantic seafood, either take-out or in their very casual dining room, with paper plates and plastic forks. They hand your tray through a sliding window, and you bus your own table. When I was still eating fried foods, their onion rings were the BEST. The have either fried or broiled fish, all very good. The sides are just French fries and coleslaw. A lot of local people get huge seafood platters to bring home for holidays. This is a traditional, casual New England-style place, and very good for what it is. My mom loved to eat there when she visited from North Carolina, and she was a New York native who ate all over the world. She had a great appreciation for local food done well.

YUM! Jacob W. and I stopped here for lunch this weekend. We decided to take a short road trip up to Derry to see what all the fuss was about for this flea market and also to get out of the city for a while. Flea market was fine, but this place was the real star. We ordered the two way combo plate with fried clams and shrimp(delicious! and a great deal) also came with cole slaw and onion rings. Rings were great, cole slaw was probably one of the best cole slaws ive had… ever. We also got a lobster roll which was delicious and came with a HUGE mound of lobster, but still slightly pricey for what it was. All in all, a great experience. We would definitely come back here if we were anywhere near Derry.

It was a hot and sunny Friday evening, I had just left work and I wanted some Fried Oysters for dinner. I rolled into The Lobster Claw II after surviving the drive through the«infamous» Derry Traffic Circle(a traffic nightmare which could be easily solved with a Modern Roundabout). The place was very busy. The Lobster Claw II(open year round) was the sister restaurant of the former Clamdiggers in Salem with a similar but more simplified menu and a lot smaller restaurant. The menu offers seafood dinners(baked, broiled, & fried), lobster dinners, seafood rolls, chowders, sandwiches, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, Pepsi drinks, and bottled beer. You order and pay for your food inside the small fish market area(very limited amount of fresh seafood on display). If dining in, go through the door on the right into the small dining room crammed with booths and tables. You pick up your food and drinks at the pickup window in the dining room when your number is called. I ordered the economy Fried Oysters Dinner($ 10.25) with fries and cole slaw, which is the right amount of food. The Fried Oysters tasted fresh and very good with the crispy fries and creamy cole slaw. Overall, come for the seafood, but I recommend takeout when the place is very busy because the dining room atmosphere was very crowded and crammed on a Friday evening.
