The service I received here was outstanding. The pizzas were great on thin crusts. I had a medium veggie lovers and a half pepperoni, half Canadian bacon. For the quality, the price is very cheap.

Pizza John’s is a Derby, KS institution. Simple as that. Thin, almost cracker crust. Good ingredients. Classic pizza and salads, with other items available when you aren’t hungry for pizza. Is Pizza John’s a trendy place? No, and I think that’s a good thing. It delivers a quality product, day in and day out, and has done so for years. Also, be sure to head there for their lunch hours(Mon — Fri until 3:00). Pizza at the same high quality, but at a decently discounted price!

I’m confused by all the 5 star ratings. The pizza is good but the service is a nightmare. I do not live in derby so I chose this place based on the ratings. When you walk in the door you are boxed in with a booth to the left, the register to the right, and people lined up for the register in front of you. I did not see any signs stating«wait to be seated» or «seat yourself» so I asked a customer and he told me it’s seat yourself. There are 6 booths and 6 tables. I sat at a table directly in front of the counter. I sat there for several minutes while the people who came in after me and were sitting next to me were helped by a waitress. The manager then approached me and asked if I had a call in order which I did. He stated it was ready and brought it to our table. I then asked if someone could take our drink order. He left then came back with plates and took our drink order. He promptly returned with our drinks. When we were finished I waited for a bit and no one ever brought the bill so I just got in line at the register. The manager was working hard, the guys in the back were working hard. The FOUR waitresses(for 12 tables) LAZY not to mention very unfriendly and unwelcoming. They clearly do not care about this business or its success. #worstdiningexperienceofmylife!

The locals love it, not sure why, maybe nostalgia? It’s not bad food, but seems overpriced for an only okay product. The atmosphere is bland. Needs an update. Service was also average.

Great pizza, probably the best I’ve ever had. If you like thin crust ‘za, this place is a classic. Go early, the place can fill up quickly and it is a small-ish place.

I’m in Derby, KS for training this week and my training manager introduced me to Pizza John’s today and It was amazing! I got a small Italian sausage pizza and a small side salad with ranch and it was the perfect lunch. The salad is a little plain.(mainly iceberg lettuce and the dressing) which was fine. The pizza was a thin crust, which was perfect for me. I’m normally picky when it comes to pizza crust, but I have no complaints! If you’re in Derby and you’re feeling pizza, I would definitely go here!

They have good pizza. Been in Derby a long time. The special seasoning they put on top is nice.

NOT a fan. I’ve tried this place several times and each time say I’m not going back., then I forget and return. I’m reminded then why I don’t like it and haven’t been back. Food tastes like frozen pizza.

This place obviously has a strong local following. It’s a nice down home place. Both times I was here I ordered the lunch special, a small supreme pizza with a small salad. The pizza is OK but maybe the crust is a little cardboardy for my taste. The topping is great and the pizza comes out piping hot. I loved the salad with Italian dressing. It’s a good place to grab lunch. I’ll certainly be back.

Best pizza I have ever had, they use this special seasoning on the pizza and it is the best thing ever. Watch out though, it’s pretty easy to eat an entire pizza with the thin crust.

I Hate Derby. Derby and it’s love of 20 mph speed limits. The only reason I’ll drive through it, is this restaurant. I love Pizza John’s. I like the set up, its comfortable, the tables aren’t shoved together, like some restaurants where your comfort comes 2nd to number of people they can shove in the building at once. It has a nice friendly atmosphere, its clean, cheap, and tasty. The have a small menu; pizza and subs. I haven’t had a sub yet, but I’m sure they’re good, the looked great. I’ve had a couple different pizzas, all of them delicious, and this place is so much cheaper than say Pizza Hut or Papa Johns and so much better tasting. Their cheese bread, are pieces of french bread toasted with garlic butter and mozzarella cheese. It’s no frills, just tasty.

As much as I champion the new ways of thinking about food and cooking that have become popular within the past few years, there are still some foods that were perfected long ago. Pizza is one of these foods. I’ve been distracted for the past few years with New York style pizza, partially because it’s a popular style for aspiring pizzerias, and because it’s not easily performed well in the central United States. There is another style of pizza which holds a place in my heart — popularly called«St. Louis» style, though I think«Midwest» style is just as apt. It’s the super thin cracker-style crust that you may or may not have seen before, oftentimes cut into rectangle-shaped pieces rather than slices. I’m not usually a fan of the slice design because you can’t really get a clean hold on some of those inner rectangle slices, but the crust is super crispy and a worthwhile contender to the styles of the east coast. Not a lot of places serve it anymore, but the ones that do have typically been around for a while. Pizza John’s is one of these places, «purveyors of round meals and flat snacks» since 1969 in Old Town Derby, and simply the best pizza I have had in years. I was hoping this place had a good pie, because the atmosphere is wonderful. This is one of those old wood-panel places my grandfather would have taken me to eat years ago, and it was packed to the brim during a Friday lunch, which I found interesting given that they don’t serve by the slice — it’s whole pizzas or nothing. This is truly a neighborhood staple. It was inspiring to see Pizza John himself still working behind the counter, commanding his small army, and obviously devoted to his life’s work. I was pleading for the pizza to be good, because I couldn’t possibly crap on forty years of the effort and dedication of the sweet old man. Any doubt to the quality of the pizza went out the window as soon as I got my first look at the pie(you can see it, too, in the pictures). The thin crust! It wasn’t as thin as I’ve seen at other places, but there was still a crunch and flakiness to the crust that was good enough. More than that, the pizza actually had seasoning, with a dash of basil, looked like, and I guess lemon pepper seasoning? which provided a great taste, though — if I was to have any complaint — made the pizza borderline salty when combined with the pepperoni. Still, I was in love. The only truly bad part is that it’s something like a thirty minute drive from where I live in Whichita, but I haven’t yet found anything better in the city.

This place is the upper crust of pizza houses… thin crust and the lemon pepper seasoning is what makes Pizza Johns a classic. Salads are basic, but tasty, and the décor is distinctively Derby, as pretty much everyone who works there(besides the owners) are current Panthers(HS). They’ve been around a long time with no signs of slowing down. We’re a twice-a-month regular.

Best Pizza I’ve had so far. Love their thin crust. Ample toppings, great price, and friendly atmosphere make this local pizza joint tops on my list.

The supreme pie at this pizza joint is, well, supreme! The only thing that kind of weirds me out is that the mushrooms they use are canned, but, for some strange reason, this works for Pizza John’s. Since the 1960s, Pizza John’s has been serving the Derby community and it’s quite the local hub. I was sad to see their sweet wood paneling go a couple years ago when they remodeled, but hey, I’m all for progress.
