Never again. Long wait for food that seems to be sitting! Not the cleanest either! This is the definition of garbage food!

Visited while out of town. Guy at the front counter was eating next to where food was being prepared. We waited for 7 minutes at the counter before our order was taken. It wasn’t even busy. He took the order and appeared as though we were bothering him. Ordered a cheese pizza and their veggie wrap. Pizza looked like a frozen pizza and the wrap was anything but. It was so gross! Definitely one of the worst places ever!

NEVER AGAIN WILL I ORDER FROM THEM! The girl who answered the phone when I ordered was extremely rude! I went to pick up my wings and pizza and had to wait alot longer than I was told over the phone. The workers have no manners and were also eating behind the counter with customers there. The staff has no manners and the food was HORRIBLE!

I’ve been going to John and Mary’s since I was a little boy. This restaurant has been my favorite since I can remember. So I was more than excited to take a friend there for the first time today.
I walked in to John and Mary’s and there was a guy talking over the counter to the workers. As I overlooked the menu, I heard to my disbelief, some not so tasteful things being talked about. «Gay slurs,» getting with someone and sliding into their DMs, photoshopping ex-​girlfriends out of photos, and the list goes on.
In today’s world, these comments are frowned upon in any situation and no customer wants to listen to these distasteful slurs while in a restaurant.
I think this will be my last time at John and Mary’s, and if I do order their food again, it will be a delivery only. I won’t step foot in there again.

Food was good as it almost always is at any john and Mary’s. No problem there.
My problem was with the service. First the girl never called out my order # like they did with everyone else, even though she put my order on the counter like it was ready. She just put it on the counter, didn’t say anything and walked away instead. After a few minutes of waiting no else else claimed it so I just took it since there was no one behind the counter at the time to ask.
Once i sat down I realized they had not given me blue cheese with my chicken fingers. So I went back up and again no one was behind the counter, directly at least. I waited a minute as I didn’t want to be rude but no one came over. So I stuck my head forward a bit and said «excuse me» to get their attention. The girl just looked at me. I said «I never got the bleu cheese with my fingers.» She said «ok one minute». She was in the middle of wrapping a sub so I figured she was just going to finish that first. Nope. A few more minutes and I was getting very annoyed. So again I stuck my forward and said in a short tone «excuse me I’m still waiting or my bleu cheese.» The girl mostly ignored me and instead another worker grabbed me a bleu cheese under the counter.

Orders come in, orders go out and fast. Speaking of fast… my least favorite part about getting food here is ordering! The gentleman that answers the phone should compete with Motomouth John Moschitta. I can’t understand him, I can’t figure out if he knows I don’t want mayo.
My favorite part is the food! As it should be. Chicken finger sub is never dry, pizza is standard Buffalo style (synonym for awesome). Fries are eh, so so.
Also, this fast-​talker thing, it’s not a one-​time deal. Years. Years and years of praying that he won’t answer the phone when I call, all unanswered (I’m not a skilled punner so I have no idea if that last sentence is reading well).

Had to wait for a flight out of Buffalo so I took a drive around and looked for a local place to get some road food. This place doesn’t look fancy and inside it is pretty plain and kinda old, but it was busy and it wasn’t a chain restaurant. Ordered a Steak and Mushroom hoagie and it was quite good and plentiful. Lots of things on the menu so I will need to stop here again and try some other stuff. I would definitely go back.

So my wife and I were hungry so we stopped in. I thought «wow, what a dump» but even though it has older décor, it was really clean.
I had cheeseburger and fries and she had pizza.
First, they forgot to give us drink cups and when I asked, the lady told me it would be given with the food order. Whatever.
When we finally got our food, the burgers were made just right.
The fries though were overcooked and stale.
The worst was the pizza my wife got which was pretty much inedible. Wound up picking off the cheese as the sauce was gross, bitter and old. The crust stale. What a waste. Overall experience was so-​so, I will not return as there are better food joints around.

Twice now I have gotten wrong subs. they obviously have a difficult time getting the orders right. When you call to advise them they don’t seem to care much! Guys this is a sub shop, if you can’t get the order right maybe you should hire someone who is more competent.

I have had a vartiety of subs from John & Mary’s. All that I have tried are pretty good… the turkey club, chicken finger (bbq), steak (a little dry), and sausage with peppers and onions. The chicken finger is probably my favorite (not as good as Jim’s). They are decently priced and pretty quick… if you call ahead usually your order will be ready in about 15 minutes.
I have also been there in the summer time for icecream. They have an area separated from the restaurant that you can walk up to for access. They have a wide variety of icecream flavors as well as other frosty treats. They offer ample outdoor seating as well.
There are outdoor soccer fields and baseball diamonds right across the side street. In the summer time, this would be a good place to come after a game to enjoy some icecream and get out of the heat!

The place is looking a bit dated compared to other restaurants in the John & Mary’s chain, but the food is still tasty. Be careful if you phone in an order, they seem to typically make a minor mistake, like forgetting to put lettuce on your sub. We like the ice cream here in the summer. It’s a large deck, and half of it is covered, and the prices are fair and servings are large.

Driving by this place or even stepping inside might give you the impression that it’s a litte of a dump. It’s true that the décor is quite «understated» and could probably use a bit of a refresh. However it doesn’t in any way impact the quality of the food which is delicious.
I would recommend checking out one of the sausage sandwiches here, either the A-​Bomb or the Big John. There is just something great about them, especially the sauce they had which is like marinara but with a nice kick. The fries and onion rings we ordered were good too.
This place also has fountain loganberry available. This stuff is hard to find outside of Western New York, so if you’re not from the area you may have never had it before. If you fall into that category, just try it because it’s amazing. It has a sweet berry flavor but doesn’t have much in the way of carbonation.
Can’t go wrong with this place. Good eatin!

So I had heard great things about John & Mary’s and like so many other «great» places in Buffalo, it didn’t live up to the hype. It was just OK, not great! I really wanted a good chicken finger sub, but just got a mediocre one. I mean I REALLY WANTED A GOOD CHICKEN FINGER SUB, someone tell me where I can get one, it wasn’t here.
Prices were OK. Service was OK, everything was just OK. I won’t go back unless I HAVE to, but I won’t say don’t go.

For Valentines day one year my boyfriend flew with a Chicken Finger sub from John and Mary’s to see me in New York. Best Valentines day ever.

The epitome of standard Buffalo fare — wings, pizza, subs, so what? John & Mary’s makes it a little better than most. Super friendly staff who I promised I would write a raving review for their Royal Sub (capicola and Italian sausage). First time I’ve had such a sub but they put it on a real simple warm sub roll and let their ingredients and this special hot sauce do the work. Solid sandwich for cheap — wouldn’t make the trip out just for it but I was ever in the area, definitely worth a return.

I have some serious history with this place — probably 30 or more years, and it is still one of the first places I head to when I’m back in Buffalo. Don’t tell anyone, but many times I’ll fly into Buffalo instead of Rochester or Syracuse just so I can get my favorites here and and at Ted’s hot dogs. There’s just nothing like these anywhere else in the world!
What’s the secret? Amazing bread, the secret sub sauce and some of the best provolone I’ve had anywhere. One of my favorites is the Royal sub complete with some of the best Italian Sausage you will experience anywhere and Cappicolla. Had it today and it made the fact that Delta lost my luggage (again) not seem as important.
One of the things I love about Unilocal is it’s encouraging me to try new things so I can share those experiences. Today I decided to give the sweet fries a try and I wasn’t disappointed. Sweet potato fries done perfectly with melted butter and honey on the side — amazing! Since I had just experienced the Paula Deen buffet a few days ago the butter only seemed fitting, and this would be a perfect dish for her as well!
If you are looking for consistent, affordable, fantastic tasting food, this is the place for you.

Seriously, you gotta try the chicken, spinach & onions sub! I guarantee you will be addicted. They have other subs too that are decent. Pizza is whatevers.

just a mom and pop shop, i customer from Brampton told me to go and get a sub and a slice of pizza. so went i was in Buffalo last weekend i went three times to this joint i liked it so much. I got a assorted sub (btw is it me or does white bread taste better in the states) anyways it was awesome, price was cheap, the next day i got a steak sub, just as good with a slice of pepporoni, different tasting pizza but good, not the best ive ever had but good in its own way. no much to say about Buffalo but the local joints are cheap and tasty.
btw.right next door there is a soft ice cream shop, get the frozen custard, just like the old days off of the ice cream truck…
