Still the same. I went on a week night. There were only three customers in the whole bar. The bartender stood behind the bar talking on her cell phone ignoring us while we waited. Does this place go out of their way to hire the most rude wait staff in Denver? When my friend went to get another drink after only about 20 minutes she really had to ask his name on the tab because five customers is apparently far too many and actually looking at someone’s face when you’re serving them is too much to ask. We played pool for a little bit and as usual their cues and equipment were bent and trashed. The entire place was filthy and looks like its been decorated by a hoarder. There were still dirty ads/posters up advertising Octoberfest… That was two months ago! Good to know how often the staff doesn’t clean. Gross. Only come here if you enjoy rude service, dirty facilities, and playing shitty games of pool!

After seeing the re visit on bar rescue thought it might be great place to go on my birthday on a Saturday night. Well I was wrong. The only nice person was the doorman who checked my ID. He was honestly looking as he wished me a happy birthday. It was so dark and dingy and our chairs were torn up. Had the scratch and the break drinks… both were not the greatest. Got the bass ass meatballs which were awful! Overcooked, and tasted like they were day old smothered with kc masterpiece BBQ sauce… I’ve had frozen ones that taste better. The tacos were old tasting… taco bell has fresher ones. We left after 30 mins never to return…

Zanzibar strives for the image of a divey bar with plenty of pool, and they seem to accomplish that job. I came here for happy hour and free pool — nothing wrong with that! The drawback to the place was that it was just too dead and brought some«riff-raff» into the place. I’m always down for a divey place, but this spot just didn’t seem to do it for me. I guess I’m just more of a fan of the billiards over at Wynkoop Brewery.

We landed here and ended up watching the broncos game in High Def on huge screens. It was fun, I like how they treat industry folks. Cheers!

this bar is okay. i know it was on an episode of bar rescue and people find the novelty in that. i know zanzibar has been in denver for a long time now, but i feel that it has the potential to hold better standards for itself. it didn’t feel very clean or very well maintained. i like that there are a lot of pool tables to use and the drink prices are pretty cheap. the drinks that were created for the bar are good. considering this place is around a few other bars, this probably wouldn’t be my top choice. more of a stop in place to play a game of pool, have a drink, and then move on to the next place. the employees didn’t seem very enthused about being there. i know its hard to work in a place when its dead, but when customers do come in, show them that you’re stoked for them to be there and give them an awesome experience!

This is an interesting pool hall hangout spot that seems to have an identity crisis. It either needs to decide to become a grown-up Chuck-E-Cheese and commit to it or aim for a higher-paying crowd and make an effort to draw people in. There are pool tables everywhere: that I expected. Then there is air hockey. And shuffleboard. And hunting video games. And god knows what else. Then there are the«throw a shot down my throat and dare me to puke» barber chairs clustered against the wall. The beer selection is good, but the bartender knew nothing about them so I had to play Colorado Roulette with the taps. The bar also had some rather out-of-place lighting on and under it that would seem to indicate a nicer environ than the frat child playground that the venue seemed to have dissolved into. I heard there was a Bar Rescue shot here. I would never in a million years have guessed.

I imagine this place would be much more enjoyable on a weekday afternoon than a Saturday night. Went there to shoot pool while in Denver. It was packed with a bunch of loud ass kids, and we could hardly get a shot in without having to either bump our cue sticks into someone’s ass or ask multiple people to move. Too loud to have a decent conversation. Apparently they had free pool up until 7pm but we arrived at 7:30 and paid $ 10/hr. Not bad, but I would definitely go somewhere more chill next time. If you want to be around a ton of obnoxious young dudes, then this is your place.

Horrible service, horrible everything! The guy at the door was the nicest person in the place. No wonder why they failed on Bar Rescue. Lol. The girls working behind the bar should lessen the attitude, nothing special.

Came here last night and I really wasn’t to happy about anything. The people behind the bar were kind of rude and the drinks they made weren’t good at all. The pool is WAY too expensive at $ 10/hr! There are plenty of bars in the area that the pool tables cost $ 1 a game! I will not be returning to this bar and cant recommend it to anyone unless they don’t mind being over charged for crap drinks

No service. Pool is expensive. The atmosphere would be good but ruined by door guys and high pool prices. This could be a great place but it’s being run into the ground. It’s pretty much worthless. Get a quick drink here when everyone else is busy.

It would be nice if the young bar tender, «tended» to us. I understand she is young but when you offer a shuffle board you expect a working shuffle board. But if not and it doesn’t work we would just like a little«I’m sorry it doesn’t work right now and blah blah blah» not just look at you and just walk away. Rude! I understand you can’t have fun but loosen up a little and you might enjoy your job! Thanks but no thanks. Sorry for the rant… But other then the above, good bar billiards and nice open space. Drinks just bar drinks nothing grand.

I’ve had a pretty good time every time I have been here. My husband and I are in walking distance and we have popped in at various hours and have had a different experience, but none of them bad. If you come during peak weekend hours you’re probably going to have to wait for a table. The drink prices are very reasonable though, and you can play as long as you want for free! They seem to have a pretty diverse crowd, which I like. It also seems to be a pretty chill crowd for LoDo — pre-10pm on Fri/Sat anyway. Judging by the owner’s comment further down, they also appear to be veteran-friendly, which makes them even better in my eyes! Fun place worth a visit if you just want to relax with a beer and play pool for a while.

I live in walking distance of this place and didn’t realize it existed for awhile. I popped in one night between hitting the 1-up and Star Bar, and I thought it was pretty cool. I really enjoy shooting pool, but I got a little confused about the tables. The bartender told me they were pay by the hour. Seems like people are saying they’re free if you’re drinking, but I wouldn’t count on that. I thought the atmosphere was pretty cool. There were a ton of people dressed up in weird costumes and I thought it matched the décor. I’ll probably head back up there sometime in the afternoon and figure out what’s going on with the pool tables and what shape they’re in. If the pool tables are decent, I’ll be hanging there a bit. I don’t think there are a whole lot of places to shoot pool downtown, maybe just this and Wynkoop.

Three stars for the awesome staff and clean bathroom… I’d give about one star for the drinks, though. And these drinks were apparently designed by some guy with his own TV show? The whole bar was redesigned by this guy? I don’t know who he is, and I don’t care to find out. The drinks are completely uninspired and the feel of the place is nothing special. They do offer free pool as long as you’re drinking, so that’s cool. They’ve also got a dartboard and air hockey. Not a terrible place to spend an afternoon, but not the best either.

This was an unexpected fun spot on a spontaneous night out. The people were friendly, the bartender was nice enough(although it took a while to get anyone’s attention, even early in the night), and it was pretty clean. I enjoyed my drinks, although it’s pretty hard to mess up a vodka/soda. Ladies! There are TWO bathroom locations. There was a line for the one women’s stall, so I defeatedly began to walk away. A staff member caught my attention and told me there was another ladies room around the corner. Thank you sir! I enjoyed playing some pool with new friends we met at the bar, and onlookers joined in the rivalry. A fun place to get the night started, and aptly located to hop somewhere else.

This is a great place to get drinks and a small bite. The bartenders are tentative and fast with orders. It’s a spacious bar, so you don’t have to worry about it getting crowded and not being able to find a spot to hang out. It’s cool that they have pool tables so you can hang out and play.

Back in Kansas City we saw this place in Bar Rescue so we decided to visit. I’m sorry we wasted the money. There were a bunch of older men there, made me feel like my dad would meet friends there to play pool. Got our drinks, I ordered ‘The Break’ and it honestly tasted like nothing. It had Smirnoff iced cake vodka, pineapple and orange juice, but still it tasted so bland. We decided to play some pool(it was free) and the first table we played on wasn’t level. Moved to another table and played another game but them we decided to leave, nothing worth staying for.

On a recent date night Sir Nicholas and I decided it had been long enough since we challenged one another to a friendly game of pool and not really wanting to deal with any crowds(it was about 8 pm on a Wednesday) we decided to give Zanzibar a shot. It was definitely un-crowded — there were at least half a dozen tables open. And there was only one bartender working as far as I could tell. We got our balls and drinks from the bartender and picked an open table to play on. For about two hours and two drinks a piece our tab was under $ 20. I think they must not have been charging for pool tables during the time we were there, which may have made this the cheapest date Nick and I have been on. If you are looking for a pretty casual place to play a game of pool or grab a standard drink Zanzibar on a Wednesday night is a good spot to try.

Ohhhh Zanzibar. Pool tables + random bar eats + loud music + decent drink specials + fun staff & awesome owner + a million holiday themed parties hosted here each year which feature an actual bubbling hot tub in the middle of the bar area + my drunk ass getting talked into«drinking for free» if I got into the hot tub wearing only my bra and panties = HOLY… FUN, CRAZY, WILD. **I have not returned since this random occasion on St Patty’s day 4 years ago. awkward.**
