This place is closing its doors at the end of the month unfortunately… ;-( Great Ice cream shop and ok bookstore. I think Tennyson can be a tough street sometimes with consistency but bookstores are really hard with all the online selection and big boxes.(see ‘You’ve Got Mail”) In a street like this, specializing in a type of book would probably have yielded more destination traffic rather than passers-by. I was initially hoping on my first visit that it would have a huge selection of local authors and Denver-centric books. But it was just a small locally owned bookstore that had added ice cream! It quickly became my family’s favorite place. for ice cream not books. Hopefully the family that owns it lands on its feet and maybe starts it up again under a different model. Sad to see the local shops go…

So glad they added the ice cream… I love to walk down and get a cone in the heat of the summer. I only wish that they had Mexican Chocolate more often(it must be popular)! Oh, and they will order any book and call you when it comes in, so surprised about Helmut’s post…

No top sellers at this location. Asked for the latest Glenn Beck title and got a rude look and told they didn’t have it. Your selling books not political agendas folks.

Great walk from Sunnyside! It is hardly a workout when you get ice cream half way through.

Lik’s Ice Cream is like the anti-NIMBY. I can’t believe the good fortune to have my favorite Denver dessert parlor down the street, nor can I explain why it took so long to get here. I’d been meaning to investigate the new Lik’s annex since the ubiquitious signs started decorating area lawns this summer. Finally carpe diem’ed that shit today, and walked the dog ten minutes down to The Bookery Nook. Per my autumnal comfort food phase, I was craving pumpkin ice cream, and Lik’s delivered in spades. They hooked it up like the AV club, and a few minutes later, Bathory and I were headed home with ice cream cone in hand. Patrons and staff alike were dog-friendly, and the little scamp happily repaid the favor. Rated four stars because my cone killed off the tub, and I was hoping to bring home a quart. The guy behind the counter gave me an extra scoop(cinnamon crumb cake, exquisite pairing) to make up for the lack of pumpkin. On my way out of the store, the guy skateboarded past me on his way home. Awesome. Will definitely be back to finish the job before the week is over. Oh yeah, the book store seemed sweet, too.

In the age of books you can download(yes I’m guilty) it’s nice to have a great neighborhood bookstore where you can go in, browse and almost always find what you’re looking for. They will order any book if they don’t have it in stock and when you’re done shopping and/or reading you can indulge yourself in Liks fabulous ice cream. What could be better than that.

Living in the hood(I go with Berkeley, Tennyson Arts District seems snotty), my biggest complaint has always been the lack of a place for pedestrians to get ice cream. Bookery Nook fills that need. The Ice Cream is provided by Liks, they have over 20 flavors, including rare sorbets that you can’t get at the grocery store(Pear anyone?). It’s bomb.

I agree with what others have said about this book store. I like the space, not too small but not like B & N either. They have a nice selection of books, but more than this I like that they support their community. They donate used/damaged books to the nonprofit agency I work for, which serves the homeless population. They seem to have a social conscious. That isn’t found in most businesses these days. I really hope they survive, as I imagine that the big corporate booksellers and the internet are difficult to compete with in terms of pricing. However, this bookstore has a soul and connection to it’s community, so I have faith that the locals will continue to shop here. And very good customer service, too! If you can afford to pay full price for most books, then I would urge you to come here. And there really aren’t many book shops in the area. If I remember correctly they will order books for you if they don’t have them in stock.

The nicest people, a good selection of books — including those for my daughter, a latte for me and a warm cocoa for my girl, a biscuit for my LARGE dog — who’s always welcome and greeted by name, and they will get any book that they don’t have for you lickety-split. Plenty of room to sit and browse without ever feeling obtrusive or hurried. I just love to go in here. Okay, a story. Sit down and get comfy… Daughter, Dane, and I were out walking, and daughter wanted to pop in(Fancy Nancy was calling). While waiting for her to make her selection I saw«Smaldone» by Dick Kreck. Having known a couple of Smaldones(if you’ve been in the neighborhood a while, you’ll get to know some. Nice people. Hi Maria.) I wanted to get the book. I talked to Shannon a bit and got that and a Nancy book. After reading it(and really liking it. Get it; it’s really good.) I decided to try another Kreck book, «Murder at the Brown Palace.» I love Denver history. Anyway, I returned with Daughter and Dane to pick up another book that I had ordered(Terry Prachett — funny stuff) and asked Shannon if she had Kreck’s other book. She didn’t, but said that she would call him to see if he would bring one by. «Him» being the author. Wow. Cool. So the next day she calls me and tells me it’s in. I go to pick it up, Daughter and Dane in hand, and there it is with a note to me from the author. Holy Bookends Batman! Try, just try getting that kind of personalized service from B&N or other chains. Thanks Bookery Nook! Oh, and we got another Nancy book and another biscuit. We love this place.

I was quite sad when Mob Cycles left this space, but to be honest, I only ever walked by and stared at all the stuff; going in to actually SHOP was too intimidating. When The Bookery Nook opened in it’s place, I was so thrilled — the shop is welcoming and so well organized. I can always find something interesting in the staff recommendations and if there’s a specific title I’m trying to track down, but can’t find they’re happy to place a special order. Their children’s section is awesome and they stock a wide range of Melissa & Doug toys. I’m really happy that in the age of the e-reader, there are still great independent book stores — I’m lucky to have this one just up the street from me.

This place rocks, great indy bookstore, great overall selection in a small space, and a big stuffed frog that my son diggs.

Very cute, cozy store! I love coming in here. They will order you just about any book if they don’t have it in stock. Plus they are well-behaved-dog-friendly which is great for my puppy!

While on-line book stores offer convenience when you know what you want; big-box book stores can provide you with not only books, but magazines, maps, CDs, DVDs, expensive coffee, software …; large local stores like Denver’s own Tattered Cover can offer hours of browsing; sometimes you just want that old-fashioned, but new-fangled neighborhood bookstore with helpful owners, a clean, open, and inviting layout; and a great but not overly intimidating selection of books to explore. Well, it exists in the form of The Bookery Nook on a nifty retail stretch of Tennyson(Tennyson, how apropos!). This is the kind of book store that you hope to find, but rarely do. It definitely has the atmosphere of community. And, if you can’t find the book you want, they’ll get it to you in a couple of days. And, that just gives you another excuse to ramble through the shelves to discover some other literary treasure.

This is definitely a unique little bookstore in the Berkeley Park neighborhood. I walked in wanting something very specific(Douglas Adams’ Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy) and had my doubts when I saw what appeared to be a limited selection. I asked the clerk in the corner, half expecting him not to be the clerk but another patron on his laptop taking advantage of the free wi-fi. And, lo and behold, they had my book. Okay, so Douglas Adams isn’t that esoteric, but my assumption is that they have just made good use of space in this store and that their inventory is more vast than it appears. I am pretty anti-Borders and Barnes & Noble. And, half the time you walk into those stores and despite their enormous stores and overwhelming inventory, they never seem to have the book you are looking for. So, keep it local and check this place out. Plus, this place is conveniently located a block from Patrick Carrols where the West Side Running Club meets up on Tuesday evenings for a run around the lake. I will definitely be back here on my way.

Sure you’ve been to those small, independent bookstore that you are proud to support but don’t really enjoy shopping there. You know the type, dusty, disorganized, poorly lit… sure you like to imagine that you’ll stumble upon some literary gem but the place is either filled with obscure philosophers or 27 copies of «The Joy of Cooking» from the 1970’s. Maybe you do find a book there, but as you wind your way around haphazardly stacked books, you are endangering yourself or the three cats who also inhabit the place. Luckily, the Bookery Nook has none of these problems. What a great space they’ve created! Open, brightly lit, clean lines, and they’ve allowed themselves some restraint and haven’t crammed every nook with piles of books. They’ve chosen their collection of merchandise well… a wide array without overindulging in any particular section. Walking to a certain corner I immediately found five books that have been on my to-read list for ages, all within an arm’s length of one another. Their greeting cards had me laughing out loud in the corner, and I will definitely be back to stock up on them. Check out these new kids on the block, pick up a book, and enjoy their great location in the Tennyson neighborhood.
