RTD Lightrail Sports Authority Field Station

Useful for people going to/​returning from Sports Authority Field and/​or that area to get on the light rail. It’s a stop, nothing particularly eye-​catching or horrible about it – but it’s convenient.

It is absurd that commuter trains stop here when there is no game going on. No one gets on or off at this station.
At this stretch of W Line stations, the train stops every 100 feet at stations no one gets on or off at during rush hour. It makes the commute longer for everyone on the train.

Why on earth was this station build where it was?
The walk to the stadium is 15 minutes+, and even worse with a large crowd and/​or ice on the ground.
Seems like it was an afterthought; «oh dang, we could totally add a station for Mile High! Let’s get it as close to LiteRail as possible. Oh we can’t get close? Eh, just do it anyway.»

«Hey let’s take the light rail to the game today» Someone said.
«Hey it’ll be a breeze, very convenient» Someone said.
«Hey you can practically spit on the stadium from the station» Someone said.
Someone lied.
This station has all the problems of Union Station without a few more thrown in for good measure. First, there is no parking for this station, but I guess maybe that makes sense since it’s a destination station. Second, the kiosks don’t work (surprise!) and you can only buy one ticket at a time so it takes the two or three thousand riders taking the E line on Sundays about 45 minutes to queue through the ticket line. Then you queue through the pre-​gate line (another two trains, or about 30 minutes) and THEN you queue again past the gate in a Tokyo-​like situation where it’s standing room only and you’re pushed up against a nice smelling woman who is a delight to talk to. Hah — kidding.
And if you have small kids or older parents with you, if the hiking around the stadium and up an down the ramps doesn’t get them, the ¾ miles from the stadium to the station will be a blast for them. I would say 95% of the riders on the E-​line on Sundays from the game are going all the way to Lincoln station and then down to CR or CS so if you’re not drafted in the first round for a seat then your standing for another 40 minutes of jerky train motion with nothing to hold onto. Next to the smelly sweaty man who wheezes and drools on his shirt.
«Hey, a nice taxi is only $ 8 from Wynkoop to the stadium’s front door and can fit four people» I said.
«Hey, let’s never do that again» I said.
