If you judge simply on cost in relation to portion size, the panini cart is one of the best lunch deals in town. Just $ 3 for a hearty panini made with turkey, lettuce, spinach, and cheese on foccaccia bread. It comes with hot sauce and ranch on the side. It’s not transcendent, nor is it fancy. But it is familiar and filling. The women inside is very sweet and friendly. She was out of fried chicken when I stopped by, so I might go give that a try some time. Nit-picky mention: ‘panini’ is a plural word meaning grilled sandwich. So the redundant«Grilled Panini Sandwiches» sign makes me cringe every time. But I’ll try to overlook it thanks to the kindness of the lovely proprietor.

Love the German Soup Lady… she’s always so nice and sweet and she remembers you. The soup is salty and adding water cuts it and it’s still awesome on a cold day. Everything on the menu is hearty yet simple and still cheap. I always come here when I can’t decide what I want for lunch.

A lovely German Lady holds down the fort aka Panini Cart on the center divide of 16th Street. She serves up a mean German Chicken Noodle Soup which is awesome and has chunks of white chicken meat, dumplings and a deep broth. Very flavorful the only downside is that it is super salty since it probably gets condensed sitting in the warmer. Nonetheless very good and just add hot water and you will have 2 servings, literally. The soup was only $ 2 but don’t expect it to be served in a hot breawd bowl, everything is simple here and I got to enjoy mine in a tall white to-go coffee cup. You can enjoy chicken paninis, fried chicken paninis for about $ 2.50 to $ 3 and she also carries brown rice which she serves with a side of chicken, fried chicken or vegetables for only about $ 4. Ice-cream, chips and soda are also stocked in her cart.
