October Secret Supper – Brunch Edition

I am a huge fan of the Secret Suppers… even those that are actually Brunch.
This review is so late, but I want every Unilocaler to realize that these events are awesome and I hope they continue next year.
This Brunch started with Bottomless Mimosas… I wasn’t driving so a perfect way to start.
The food and atmosphere were fun. I really hope to get back here for a full meal.
French Press Coffee: not everyone serves coffee this way, but I like it, Love it, actually.
Can’t wait for the next Secret Supper.

Practically perfect in every way. I LOVED Secret Brunch! Combine a fantastic group of Yeeps with a quirky inviting location and delicious food and you really can’t go wrong.
The mimosas were free flowing and oh so good. The pear pain perdu was magnificent. I love sweet breakfast items, but typically don’t order them because in the morning I really crave savory. I was glad that I could try this sweet yumminess and still have a savory course. It was gooey in the right places and just sweet enough without overdoing it. I also had the crabcake benedict with a side salad. I wouldn’t have thought of salad for brunch, but it paired perfectly with the crabcake benedict and the light citrus dressing was lovely. The crabcake had a lot of crab (you know, sometimes there’s too much filler — not the case here!) and the poached egg was done very well. To top it all off, service was timely and friendly.
I would definitely come back to Pary’s for brunch and I also want to try out their dinner menu. Thank you Unilocal for introducing me to a great place that I likely would not have found on my own!

Secret Supper— been hearing how wonderful it was month after month. I got a message and an IM that the October was up for sale and I better jump… So I did. only problem with Secret Meals is Food Allergies. Yep. I have one, I am allergic to Egg Whites.
Why would someone who is basically Allergic to breakfast go to a brunch event? I was asked this several times before and even during the event. Well, it’s Dale’s fault!
With any place I would go to breakfast with people, I would find something I figured. Do like kids at school lunch. Trade with the Vegitarians.
I want to give Tiffany a special thanks for making sure my odd allergy was accounted for.
I also met some great new people. Shout out to Shaun and Kate!!! We need to make that Thursday Night Pizza date soon.

This was so much fun! Let me start out by saying, that I am not a huge fan of breakfast — at least in the traditional sense. Eggs weird me out unless I can cook them myself. And by «cook» — I really mean scramble the hell out of it and load it up with other things until it’s not really even an egg anymore. I am however, a big fan of mimosas. Even better when they’re bottomless.
The pain perdu was awesome — I lucked out and got a corner piece, and the outside was lovely and crispy. It was the perfect counterbalance to the more soggy (like traditional french toast) inside of my piece. I don’t know that I would have enjoyed it as much if I hadn’t gotten a corner piece. But it was great — the pear flavor was great and not overpowering. I ordered the benedict — this is a stretch for me, because of that pesky egg. I’m just not sure how I feel about runny eggs in particular. I thought I’d be brave and try it, but instead opted to share with my dining companion. The crabcake was amazing — the english muffin was perfectly crispy and the greens were a nice touch on the side.
Great company and conversation made it an even better way to spend a Saturday morning. I’m looking forward to going back to Pary’s at some point to check out their regular menu.

I was really psyched when I first heard that the October edition of the Unilocal Secret Supper Club was going to be brunch (YAY, one of my favorite eating-​out meals!) on a Saturday (YAY, the haul from Ft. Collins is so much more doable on the weekend), but then it sold out in record time (need I say BOO …) Rather than wallowing in self-​pity I shot Tiffany an e-​mail to get on the waitlist, which I cleared with just a few days to spare (now that gets a big WOOHOO)
Anyway, I’ve been wanting to attend a Secret Supper because it would give me a chance to try a restaurant I might not otherwise have occasion to visit and there was sure to be interesting company (i.e. other Unilocalers) — a success on both counts. So, let’s start with the food (and drink). I suppose the big selling point for this event was the bottomless mimosas; as such, I couldn’t pass one up. However, since I would eventually have to drive back to Ft. Collins, I appreciated that French press coffee was also available (nothing like mixing drugs …)
The first course was a pain perdu that was both rustic — a satisfyingly custardy bread pudding — and refined — flavored with roasted pears, almonds, and a nicely spiced syrup. Not something I would normally choose for myself since I prefer savory to sweet, but I enjoyed this dish. My entrée, however, was perfectly divine. I chose the crab cake benedict. Each of the components was executed beautifully. Oftentimes crab cakes suffer from the chef trying too hard — too much «Old Bay”-type seasoning, over-​worked cake with gummy texture, mistreated crab, etc. This crab cake was full of sweet chunks of crab just barely held together, with a nicely browned, crispy exterior. The poached egg was executed well — a tender white surrounding a just-​warm, runny yolk. The Hollandaise didn’t stand out, but provided just the right unctuous mouth feel to every bite. The lightly-​dressed greens were a perfect counterpoint.
Last but not least, the company was great. It was fun meeting other Unilocalers and sharing a meal with others that are passionate about good food. Thank you Tiffany N for another great Unilocal event.

So glad I got a ticket to this fun brunch event. I knew I was going to bike there and take full advantage of the bottomless mimosas.
We all started off with the pain perdu with pears and it was so good. Then I had the single crab cake egg Benedict with side salad. Both were really good. The crab was flavorful and had little filler as many have pointed out.
The server did a great job getting around taking away dirty dishes and keeping glasses full.
I look forward to the next secret brunch.

Another fun secret supper … Only this time it was brunch. The pain perdu was super moist, rich and flavorful. The pear flavors were assertive and tasty. The house-​made sausage on the american breakfast went well with the oniony potatoes. My french pressed coffee was darkly delicious. The bottomless mimosas were the star of the show. Good food and even better company at this brunch bunch gathering.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy. Definitely worth the drive from Parker to Pary’s.

Pain Perdu — Delicious. Very eggy and custardy with the right mix of flavor and pears.
Crab Cake Egg Benedict — A lot of lump crab without a lot of filler. Only problem was that there was only one of them and I could have eaten many more. Small side salad was nicely dressed and a great add to the Benedict. My egg was cooked perfectly. The Hollandaise sauce could of used a little bit more acid — but this is just my preference but it had a hint of kick in the background — nice touch.
Service was great and they did a great job of keeping up with the lushes at our end of the table and kept our mimosa glasses filled!

I love brunch and am always happy to be able to partake in brunch. When I found out this month’s Secret Supper was in fact a brunch, I was elated.
I’d never heard of Pary’s on 28^th, but found it wasn’t too far from my house. I hope to make it back here for brunch in the future.
It is a small restaurant, which makes your dining experience feel intimate. As I arrived a bit late, everyone at the table already had mimosas, coffee and water. It took the server a few minutes to get me appropriately caffeinated, and watered, but she did take care of business. I skipped the mimosas this time, as champagne and I don’t always get along that well.
The first course came out fairly quickly. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the pain perdu, but I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the pear flavor and scarfed it down quite quickly. I could have had a second one. :-)
My second course, I went with the standard American breakfast, eggs, bacon and potatoes, which really hit the spot. The french coffee was just perfect and I enjoyed that after the meal, we had a chance to sit and chat for awhile, without being rushed out. Others continued to enjoy the bottomless mimosas during the lag time.
Brunch was a welcome change and I hope if the Secret Supper tradition continues into 2013, that brunch makes another appearance. Fun times. Thanks again to Tiffany N and crew, as well as Pary’s for a memorable experience.

What a great change of pace! I love brunch, but rarely take part (probably a consequence of living in the ‘burbs). So I was quite excited that this month’s Secret «Supper» was in fact a brunch.
And my excitement turned out to be well founded. First, bottomless mimosas are always a good way to make an impression. Although it took a little while to get my first one, it was never empty from that point forward despite my continuous attempts to do so. They were the perfect mixture as well.
When the first course came out (Roasted Pear and Almond Pain Perdu with Ginger Cinnamon Syrup), I remarked that it looked like something my mom would make. And it tasted like it too. The roasted pear and almonds were a perfect combo on top of the soft (yet not mushy) thick french-​toast like pain perdu. I thought I was back home in my mom’s kitchen.
The main course (Crabcake Benedict) had some big shoes to fill, and it did. TONS of crab with great flavor and fantastic crispy outside. It was perfect on the English muffin, and the poached egg on top was done beautifully. I thought the side salad was an odd choice at first, but it ended up being a great palate break. It was also very fresh and only lightly dressed (I hate when there’s more dressing than salad).
The service was so friendly and attentive despite only two people for our whole crew. I long for having a place like this near where I live. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Thank you Tiffany and Pary’s for a fantastic start to my day.

Bottomless mimosas, bacon, sausage, eggs… Unilocalers! Heck yes! So glad I was able to be at this edition of Secret Supper Club. It was such a lovely meal. I really enjoyed the space, and the food was so good. I will for sure be back.
I chose the American breakfast, this is not typically order when I go out for brunch, but today it just sounded good, and indeed it was. The potatoes were perfect, just like I like them, more on the side of home fries versus hash browns. My sausage had wonderful flavor and my egg was cooked perfectly. I requested hot sauce and she offered house made green chili. So glad I got that. It was flavorful and spicy and took the entire dish to a higher level. The hubs also ordered the American breakfast with bacon, he liked his as well but was a little disappointed with 1 egg and 1 piece of bacon. I can understand, he’s a big guy! It was a perfect portion for me but not so much for him. I really enjoyed the first course as well and I am not typically one who orders the sweet side for brunch.
Thanks for setting this up and making for a very enjoyable Saturday morning. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves as much as I was.
