2012 Review #327: Hmmmmm. The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is honestly because I would feel guilty giving less than 3 for a business that is local, independent, small, and promotes local fashion design. I think these things are very important, and I also know that clearly this store and this designer have a base and a clientele, but man it is not me. We came pretty close to closing time and there were two women at the desk who only acknowledged us because as we walked in, a dog in the adjoining building barked. I appreciated not being dogged in this small store but they basically pretended we weren’t there and continued their personal conversation. The store is basically the size of my kitchen, which just doesn’t make me feel like sticking around and taking it all in; if more than 4 people wanted to shop here it’d be logistically impossible and probably a violation of fire code. The designs are… unique. Definitely not for me. Honestly the only thing that made me think these were original designs was just because some items were so bizarre that I knew they couldn’t be mass marketed. Take, for instance, a jacket with scrabble letters, dice, and other gaming paraphernalia sewed to the outside. Only a very insane kindergarten teacher could pull that off. The less kooky items didn’t strike me as particularly interesting. I should note that I was looking for something very specific(though the staff never asked) so I knew pretty quickly that I wasn’t going to find it in this store. I will personally never return, just since I know this will never be a store I’ll find anything I like in. I would, however, direct older women, especially older women from Boulder, to give this store a try.

Mona Lucero is very creative, talented and she is a doll… Her boutique offers fun, feminine designs that you want to wear… Mona designs and makes the clothes herself as well as carrying other unique accessories… Mona is Denver couture…

I love this place! The only problem is that I’m usually driving by on my way to or from work when it is not open. That being said, when I do get here, I find cute kitschy gifts for friends, and great unique clothing. Mona(I assume she’s Mona — the woman working at the counter) is helpful, nice and not too pressured with the upsell. Stop in! Keep her in the ‘hood!

I was just there to see my friend perform. He was modeling for new Mona Lucero’s clothing. I went in the store and must I say that for such a small store, they sure had a lot of people there. One thing I fell in love with is the design of the store. It makes you feel at home. I will be back to see more.

I finally made it to this place during business hours! I had walked by it multiple times on my way to Forest Room 5 but had previously been there after closing time. I went yesterday and I love this store! Lots of cute, artsy and imported stuff at great prices. I got a pretty red chinese parasol for $ 10. I also had my eye on several other things that were very reasonably priced. It is a cute store and they always do a terrific job on their shop window displays. Check ’ em out!

Great little boutique in Highlands. Don’t let their limited and kind of boring website dissuade you from dropping by. The clothing and accessories are true artistry. We all get tired of the same old fashion lines and labels, this boutique is where you will find fun-unique-full of life fashion. I like that if I try on something that I may not be sure of the fit, I’ll receive honest feedback from the staff. Too tight or too loose is not good fashion! There is no sales pressure karma to fear! You can wonder in and look without feeling like you are a target. Then you can go have tea or a glass of wine at one of the near by cafes.

I just picked up a bunch of Feng Shui kitties for all of my girlfriends. At $ 9 a feline, they’re affordable and they have meaning! There are four colors and depending on where you put them, they will do different things for you… because they are magical Feng Shui meow meows.(Hold up. does red mean money or does yellow?) No matter, they don’t do harm. Everything in here is funky and original. The BAGS are so so so fun and/or artsy, and/or plain gorgeous. And I’m not sure why I couldn’t stop touching the crocheted skirt that looks like an afghan my mom crafted when I was a kid, but I so wanted to wear it. There are beautiful, sophisticated candles and a line of cards that are three-dimensional and shaped like a flower. Can you imagine getting that from the postal service? Gah. I love it here.

I don’t know where to begin. When Mona dresses my models,(beautiful women, yes, but not professionals,) she brings out what is most beautiful in them. Maybe their silouette, the small of the back, the wrist, she always nails it! I also love finding her unique«wrap» under my christmas tree every year!(thanks boys…)

Mona kicks ass. Seems rough — but no other boutique can outlast our out-do Mona Lucero. First, she makes all her stuff. Who does that these days? Made in America? Unheard of! She has awesome style and taste and she makes clothes that fit REAL women! Second, she has flair. She cultivates a whole new breed of style… which Denver has been known to lack! Mona Lucero has sustained the small business dread — going on her 4th year now. Mona Lucero has been named one out of 100 small Indie Boutiques in the country. She rocks — no doubt about it!
