I was in town over the weekend as Merchants changed over their kitchen to make pizzas. Great pizzas! They are making thin NY Style, selling whole pies and by the slice. The bread is great, no limpy tips. The sauce is tasty and the cheese was tasty, tasty, tasty! They also set up some mid-west style cheesy sticks, a thick crust pie topped with garlic, cheese, and sesame seeds. One of the bar tenders(Sam) added some pepper flakes and served it with buffalo sauce and ranch. So good. Being a bit older than the surrounding college kids, I noticed they don’t show up until after 10PM and then kind of cone and go in waves. Before they turn it into an John Hugh’s house party, it’s a chill place with really cool staff and plenty of screens to watch some games. Thanks for a great slice, hope you keep it up and I’ll be back the next time I’m in Denver!

After visiting Greeks Gone Wild across the street, my boyfriend and I felt like a drink so we decided to give this place a try. It looks a bit run down, and it is, but that’s how I like my bars: divey. The drinks are stiff and the service is above average. During the hour we were in here there may have been a total of two to three other people in there at the same time. Not a lot of traffic. A few over head tv’s with ESPN and some local sports updates. I imagine this place is pumping when DU is in session, but we did visit in mid-July on a weekday, so what do you expect? In a nutshell: it’s a good place to grab a quick stiff drink and catch up on local sports.

I am reviewing this place as a musician that recently played at the Mile High Saloon. To be clear, as a customer, I would rate 4 stars. The staff is friendly and the bar is cozy. As a musician, I had to stretch it to 2 stars. The place is not set up well for live music. Would be ok if there was just a dj or if the bar decided to go to just Karaōke. The stage is tiny and shoved back into a corner. Only 2 monitors for the band. We are a 5 piece band and I, being a piano and keyboard guy was put back into a dark corner and directly behind a speaker where no one would see me. I could have played naked and not a soul would have noticed. It was very hot in the place, and the parking is challenging to say the least. They need to move the stage to the center of the wall directly across from the bar and make the stage bigger. Then they need to get rid of the large booths that block the view from the bar. Do that and improve the PA system and monitors, then they just might be ready to host bands. For bands that play regularly at other venues in town, this is a huge step down. As a venue it makes Toad Tavern look like the Marriott. Until then, I prefer just to come in and hang out as a customer. I love their grapefruit IPA they have on tap. I will certainly return as a customer but won’t be performing there again anytime soon. I have a 2 piece side project band that might be a good fit for live music there. Lastly, the reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 as a customer is that my family wanted to order a pizza but was told that the dough was moldy. That just can’t happen. Luckily, there is a Subway right next door!

Sublime came on at Merchants… and then Blind Melon. But at least it’s Merchants. After many nights(and more than a few mornings) poisoning myself at Merchants in Oakland, the bro-ish, redneck atmosphere makes me question whether or not I’ll try to go again or just move on and remember the real thing with a smile from time to time. I know what I would tell myself if I were the bar lol.

I love this place. It is very chill and laid back. The staff is always super friendly and the bands that play are great! It is dark and cozy with a few pool tables, darts and pinball. I would recommend this place to any one in the area and wanting a friendly expericence with great local music!

Came here to watch a friend’s band play and was very impressed. This place has a great vibe and décor with a red theme throughout. The floor plan is very spacious with a separate area for the band and the bar complete with plenty of large booths. They had some decent drink specials and the bartenders were all very friendly.

I’ve been to MMHS(because acronyms) twice now, both for a roller derby after party. I think being tucked back into the corner of a strip mall might not be doing them any favors because I genuinely dig this place. It’s a big place with a nice pool table and a couple dart boards as well as a place for live bands. The drinks are always reasonably priced and the staff is really attentive. Being in the middle of a college neighborhood, I’m surprised it’s not busier than it is. I’m really rooting for this place!

I found my way to Mile High Saloon last night after a balloon fight at a jungle party. Inside is a dimly lit with booth and high tops to sit at. The bar is long and the bartenders were friendly. Well drinks were $ 4 and most beers on tap were $ 3. They had a special called a B-52 for $ 5 that I decided on. You can sell me anything with Bailey’s in it. It was delicious and potent. The Saloon boasts live bands(we watched a great country band), karaōke, as well as DJs and a dance floor. There are also two pool tables and a dart board in the back.
