Superb food and service for a great price. This is the kind of place you would love to have your neighborhood. If I lived within walking distance, I’d come here a couple of times each week. But I still plan to come often, because it’s worth the drive, and I’ve always been able to find parking nearby. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food is delicious. The wine list is, of course, wonderful, and the staff is knowledgable. I highly recommend Mell’s Cheese!

If you’ve been to Truffle Table, just a few blocks away is this gem that’s less expensive, a better cheese selection, and absolutely fantastic service! The server really knew her stuff, and we got 2 great glasses of wine, a large charcuterie board, and dessert(for both of us!) for under $ 50. Considering the service and quality of everything, I would have paid way more. Definitely go check them out!

This place is across the street from an old friends house. He said the TripAdvisor reviews were good. So we figured give it a try. They have sandwiches and salads as well as wine and cheese. Dylan was working the cheese counter and was very friendly and knowledgeable. They will let you sample the cheeses before you choose for your cheese plate. We split a meat and cheese plate and each had a salad. The service was pleasant and the food delicious. I am an avid user of Unilocal.I will almost always read reviews both good and bad of the establishments that I go to. There was a one star review posted by a Jamie C. In my opinion that was a hit job. Obviously a smear campaign. The user Jamie C. Was a new account and this was the first review. I did not see any of the problems or issues that Jamie C. Wrote about. I had a very pleasant conversation with the owner and some of her very friendly staff. I would not hesitate to patronize this establishment again in the future. If you love cheese and wine this is a great choice!

I was thoroughly disappointed with this business. To start I come in, and there was no one to greet us for about 5 minutes while various members of the staff looked at us blankly. Finally we sit down and take our own menus. The wait continues… No one to even bring us water. Finally after waiting the better part of almost 20 minutes to get brought up to speed we try to settle in for some wine and cheese. As we hang out and look around we see how poorly executed this business is. The«cheese specialists» are sitting around on the counters and leaning on everything. I see people behind the counter who are supposed to prepare our food eating snacks and cutting apart cheeses and whatever else and eating barehanded at the counter, before going right back to work making someone else’s cheese plate or sandwich. The lady who was our server seemed frantic and liked she was trying to spend more time with the people who bought a bottle or two rather than just a couple on a date. Very off putting feeling we weren’t welcomed. I was baffled. I saw, on atleast 4 occasions, someone touch their face, or eat, and not wash hands at all, before going and continuing on with their job. There were dirt dish rags left on several ledges in plain sight, and many tables, amongst ours, poorly bussed. The owner later in the meal decides to make an appearance. Personally I would say she should make an attempt to do so less often. It was a pleasant gesture initially. She came to talk to us, and ask how things were. Politely we said everything was good. She then continues to hover over us uncomfortably in our space and try to pry for something more. When we seemed somewhat displeased by her evident lingering she still hovered asking repeatedly if the food was ok, how was service, are we sure it’s ok, etc, etc etc. she seemed very uncomfortable being in her shoes. But as we continued to tell her things were ok, she decided to start a conversation of her own with us on how she put this place together and her money problems so far being slow, and on and on and on. Stuff we as customers on a date hardly care to hear. Bad business to tell your guests that you went over budget by 100k and now it’s just slow and you’re «so broke, so thanks for coming in and spending our money». She just wished we’d «bring all of our friends to buy some cheese too!» I found her to be extremely awkward and rude in relation to our space and privacy, and certainly we were a bit uncomfortable hearing about this woman’s bad business decisions and her overwhelming current debt. Finally the owner let’s us have our wine and continue our date. As the restaurant is very open it is loud and echoes well. We could hear very clearly the majority of the conversations around us, which is no problem at all. However, it was rather off putting hearing these«cheese specialists» talking about drugs, and dropping LSD at a show and what their plans were later or how they are going outside for a smoke break to smoke some«herb». Without running on endlessly I’ll conclude this review. Overall I’d say the next part of the experience was the cheese that we picked. Luckily there are good cheese makers out there to keep this place in business. Other than the cheese, I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. It was disappointing to hear banter of drugs, and to be repeatedly intruded upon by the owner because she clearly felt uncomfortable with us there. She must have come up 4 times to double check that we were happy and trying to make small talk. Hovering. More than the server we had cared to come check on usZ Somehow past the health code violations, the ridiculous talk of partying and drugs, and maybe getting a moment to have our own date without unwelcome company we managed to finish the whole night off. I would say look elsewhere for shops more put together and where the employees and staff have the courtesy to not talk loudly about their partying while snacking in front of us and then making our dish.

I love this new addition to the LoHi neighborhood. It’s the ideal spot for happy hour, a full meal, an after dinner night cap, or a hunk of awesome cheese! The ambiance is great, the owner and wait staff are very knowledgeable about the large wine and cheese selection, and there are several options on the menu for health-conscious people. I’ve been there twice this week — may go back yet a third time just to try some more of the cheeses that I haven’t sampled yet. Try it!

Fantastic experience here. They were all so friendly and knowledgable. The charcuterie board we built was unbelievably good, and very reasonable in price. Very cute inside. I’d recommend checking this place out! We will return.

It feels upscale but wasn’t stuffy, and was reasonably priced. It’s a really interesting place and everything I’ve had there has been quite good. I really liked the décor/atmosphere and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Lunch — great gourmet sandwich plates in the $ 8 – 14 range, cheese plates and other appetizers, Novo coffee. I’ve had the Grinder and the Caprese sandwich; both were excellent. I also had the baked goat cheese appetizer which was also delicious… it came with blueberries and pistachio baked in, and was great on the bread. Happy Hour — several microbrews on tap, and a lot of wine. The cheese sampler plates are great for sharing. Cheese platters/drink pairings — This is «their big thing» and their sampler plates are really good. Nice for sitting down with a couple friends and having some wine with their platters. The platters come with meat and bread and other pairings to go with the cheese. Buy for home — good selection of unusual cheeses and dry cured meats — they let you sample before you buy. Nice for an upscale appetizer at home or a party.

I was staying in the lohi area for a few days and kept coming back to get cheese. They had some of my favorites(valdeon, Mt Tam, garrotxa) and a bunch I haven’t had(tomme Crayeuse was so creamy and grassy!). I mostly just ate cheese from there over three days but a friends of mine had a chicken liver sandwich wich she said was amazing and that the chips were unusual and delicious. Great little neighborhood cheese shop/wine bar/restaurant. I wish I lived next doer to it!

We took my mother here when she visited Denver, and everything was wonderful. The food was delicious, and the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful in choosing the cheese. Everything that we had was wonderful, and I highly recommend the baked goat cheese.

Went here this evening with my wife, and in summary, we had a delightful experience. Paula was fantastic at entertaining, along with our server and the rest of the staff. We got a medium cheese plate with ham, as well as the lemon dessert, and all was very good. I had two glasses of different whites, and both were great. Atmosphere and décor are exceptional, and fit right in with the neighborhood. They let us try some cheeses at the case before the plating, which was great. All cheeses are market throughly with name, location, type, and if they are pasteurized, which was great for my pregnant wife. I wanted to get the grilled cheese, but was stuff from the rest. Next time, I’ll go for that for sure.

In short: Lovely, understated, and reasonably priced. I’ve always loved the idea of charcuterie. I’m unsure if it’s the hodgepodge-ness of it all, or its downright simplicity: just throw some disparate, flavorful pantry items and dry goods together for an appetizer or meal. Mell’s has gotten this right from the start, which is impressive given they’ve been open less than 72 hours from my writing this. Their menu is very simple — a few salads and sandwiches, dried meats, and of course a wide assortment of cheeses. I chose the smallest cheese plate for my first experience and picked from my usual set of standbys: pecorino romano, gouda, and brie. All were superb. To compliment the dish: dried apricots, dried cranberries, candied pecans, crostini, fig-honey jam, wonderfully rich mustard, mini-gerkins and a blanched tomato. I was pleasantly surprised as to how this ended up being a complete meal. Paula, the owner, along with the rest of the staff is bustling, warm and polite. Even under the pressures of managing a new venue, they manage to keep their cool with a smile. I’m impressed with Mell’s Cheese, and I greatly look forward to having them in the neighborhood.
