Honey J Onstad, MD

I LOVE Dr. Onstad. I find it comical that I am writing a Unilocal review for a professional but she is such a find. I am not the maternal type but Dr. Onstad was the only gynecologist who ever recommended an IUD to me (the most common birth control among OB-​GYNs). She is an amazing listener and has a tremendously thoughtful bedside manner. I know people who have delivered babies with her and they also adore her. She takes as much time as you need to answer all of your questions and is very respectful of patients as people who want to understand things.

Dr. Onstad is a great doctor, however the office itself and the nurses are not so professional. I have had the same issue going on for months now and everytime I go back in they tell me the same stuff they told me the last time. I have since then switched gynecologists, which lets me down because I did like Honey.

Dr. Onstad is the first OB/​GYN I’ve had who has influenced my choice in health insurance. That is, when I change, I make sure her office accepts the new policy before purchasing it.
You could say I’m a groupie. I like her because she listens. I know, it’s hard to fathom, but it’s true: a real doctor who actually listens. I’d stay with her for that alone, but she’s also never showed any hint of being uncomfortable, no matter what the topic. She helped me through a major procedure a few years ago without being the least bit condescending. Plus, she was the actual surgeon and did her level best to leave minimum scarring.
I discovered just recently that she’s very knowledgeable about perimenopause, too. Score! So here I am, about to change insurance plans again, and you can bet I’m going to do what I can to stay on her patient roll. If you can get an appointment, see Dr. Onstad if you can, too.

We absolutely loved Dr. Onstad. She is very sweet, easy-​going and knowledgable. Unfortunately, she was in surgery when I went into labor, so she was not able to deliver our son, but our overall experience with her was fantastic. I have suggested her to several friends who have also had great experiences.

Dr. Onstad was my OBGYN for the birth of my first daughter. First off, I am a nurse with OB experience so I’m pretty darn picky. I loved how calm and patient Dr. Honey is during visits. She is competent and can explain all your options without talking down to you. I appreciate that she is a modern doctor and gives you current and practical advice. Her practice, MIdtown OBGYN, is very popular so you will have a crowded waiting room and wait times on the phone. However don’t you want your OB’s office to be popular? I found that many women in the waiting room are happy repeat customers, and that says it all. Her partners are also all highly recommended so you can rest easy if Dr. Honey is not on call for your delivery. (An important thing to think about, as with most practices they have a rotating call schedule for nights and weekends.) I have many friends, many of which are health professionals, who have given me rave reviews for the other doctors in the practice.
As a caveat I will add that at times she was so unflappable that I wondered if she was TOO laid back. That is not the case as she can quickly switch it into high gear in a heart beat if you need it. She did an excellent job with my rapid delivery, and her sewing skills are pretty remarkable.
