Ho Mei was infamous for numerous health code violations such as spitting in their food, not washing their hands while preparing the sides or even not having a hygienic staff with a poorly maintained kitchen. This was the only Ho Mei where we picked up cheap dollar by the scoop Chinese food. This is perhaps the greasiest one provided. I don’t recommend the sesame chicken, the orange chicken or red pepper sides because they’re not as appetizing as it appears to be. It used to be when the restaurant was still new and true. But it’s a low quality style Chinese joint. There’s not much you can honestly expect. You can, however, get cheaper grab cheese wontons(rangoons) at the Ho Mei in Colorado Blvd. they are overall a better restaurant than the one off of Peoria. The staff is better, the Rangoon wontons are literally $ 1.50 for 6 in one bag. You can get 24 for 4.75 around that price. The Ho Mei in Federal isn’t recommended at all; I did see mice fondling around.

This was one of the few times I ate at a restaurant so wickedly and utterly destroyed by bad Unilocal reviews. Hell, it was named one of the five worst restaurants in the NATION. To say that I wasn’t expecting much is a huge understatement. There’s /nothing/open on Christmas, we had no choice. I can’t comment as to the décor, or the service, but I can tell you that I don’t understand how this place became the villain of lo mein. First of all, this is a by-the-scoop joint. This should automatically give you a heads up that this is NOT gourmet cuisine. What it is is cheap and passable. I got the lunch special($ 5) with the Sesame Chicken and noodles, two Crab Rangoon and a can of soda. There were mountains of both the noodles and chicken. The crab Rangoon weren’t worth mentioning, but were certainly edible. As for the sesame chicken, mine was not hard like a lot of the reviews had mentioned. Again… it wasn’t great, but it was just alright. I had no complaints based on the price. As for the noodles, I actually enjoyed them. The flavor was kinda nice, and I found myself gobbling it up. This is not the place to take a date. It is, however, a cheap place to get a quick lunch. It doesn’t deserve the awful reputation it seems to get.

If you like this type of food, this place is really not bad! The group of ladies that run the food line are quite something… I think that’s the most politically correct way to say it! You can either eat in the dining room which is adorned with plastic fruited tree like things or carry out(I suggest the latter). I don’t know if it’s the lighting or what but it just doesn’t appear to be the cleanest place so I’d recommend just doing the grab and go thing! My recommendation is this… stop in and try it for yourself! It really is much better than others of the same variety!

Unruly children running around, bleak décor, unhappy staff that really doesn’t appear to like their customers. It’s a bad idea.

I am not sure what possessed me to walk into this place and decide that yes, the food that was prepared here 12 hours ago and that has been«warming» since would be safe to eat. That’s on me. Even so, I am kind of proud of myself for not getting sick. But seriously, this place needs to shut down.

I love this place for cheap Chinese hangover food. But the older woman that works there is seriously the most miserable person I have ever met. I think today going there was my last time. I watched as she was rude to every single person in front of me. She doesn’t even look at the customers and the customers all left shaking their heads. She doesn’t care because the food is cheap so there are always steady customers but I will tell you eventually this will hurt her business. I wont be back thats for sure. Oh yes and today it was Meany one and Meany two so that for me it was enough having to communicate with the one old witch.

I dont know why all the bad reviews. I have been to China and have eaten authentic Chinese food. The food here is the best I have ever had in my life. Stop spewing your hate against this restaurant. Diarrhea is apart of life.

So I’m reading these reviews on my left hand, and stuffing my face with my right. Mega grease lo mien. Freshly cooked beef and broccoli. And some chicken and potato thing. I don’t know what you guys are talking about. This place ain’t so bad. Those windows have been cleaned probably never. Each combo is meant to feed two people, I’m pretty sure. Hmm… My stomach kinda hurts.

Changing my review from three to one stars. Yeah the food is not great but it’s cheap but I’m changing it to one star because of the lady(owner perhaps) who works the register. Misunderstood my order and started barking at me as if it was my fault. Are you kidding me? First off, I’m the customer and a native English speaker, so whose fault is a communication problem really? Not the first time I’ve been badly treated by this lady who is one of the rudest people I’ve encountered. DONOTGOHERE!!!

I hate to knock on a little shop like this but it’s gross. I’ve given it 3 tries because I live close by and the food is yuck. I’m sure some people are into this kind of ‘iron gut’ restaurant but it’s not for me.

Its like they aren’t even trying. The food quality is so very poor. The sesame chicken was hard a s a rock and tasted like nothing I could identify. They have some odd policy that you must pay cash if you order is under a threshold that I cannot remember now. The service is poor. The food sucks. The place is dirty. I shudder to imagine what the kitchen looks like. Save your money. Go lick a bus seat to get the same gastrointestinal experience for free.

Man Tres, I feel you. The food ain’t that great, but man I gotta disagree, this place is one my favorites and I’ll tell you why. Their’s homeless guys hanging outside, the décor inside is ordered out of the ghetto Chinese decoration book, complete with bamboo trees and store brand sodas for sale. Bottom line, the food isn’t that good, but when you consider that you can get 3 big Styrofoam containers full of food for like 7 bucks, I think it’s worth it. No I didn’t stutter folks, you can get a family size portion of all your Chinese joint favorites: Various kinds of chicken(I guess it’s chicken), pork(ditto for the chicken), fried rice, potatoes, etc. 7 bucks. It’s greasy, it’s bad for you, and yes it may not even be real food. Seriously though when you pull up to this place you shouldn’t be seriously expecting gourmet offerings. It’s my favorite ghetto Chinese spot, wish we had more of these back home in Tallahassee.

Ho Mei must translate to the Yiddish«Oy Vey» or more poignantly, «Viscous Mush». Everything, including the tables and chairs, was covered in a vile oily film. Of course, when I got a pound of white rice covered in two indiscernible ladles full of slime chunks for $ 4.85, I should have known this is not my kind of place. As a curiosity, they were also selling brown and spotted bananas out of a box. Truly odd. For fun, look at my pics… yeesh. AVOID!
