Wonderful food, service, and décor. My family took me there for a birthday lunch this weekend and everything was great. I had a chicken dish that was in a delicious sauce. The leftovers were great the next day, too. We’ve had delivery from them and it was also super, came fast and was hot.

While I’ve never eaten in the restaurant I’ve had delivery many times and don’t order from anywhere else. Food is always what I asked for and usually early.

My boyfriend and I tried Golden a few weeks ago since it’s hard to find a sushi/Chinese place nearby — I love sushi and he loves Chinese. So we figured Golden would be the best of both worlds. I thought the sushi was really good and fresh. Unfortunately, the Chinese food was a bit bland and dry.

New to Denver and this place is right around the corner. Have yet to be disappointed. Some items can be a little pricey for Chinese food and that’s why only four stars. But fast and friendly staff with some good food!

I had been looking for an authentic Sichuan restaurant forever but could not find one. Then, u tried a different search and to my amazement, there was one 2 blocks from my house. We have had the MA Yi Shan Shu, spicy tendon, needle mushroom, cumin lamb, pickled fish stew… the list goes on and on but Everything we have eaten from here is unique from you typical chinese restaurant and it is delicious. I am concerned that on their new menu the Sichuan offerings are about cut in half. I hope they are not getting rid of these menu items. I have no interest in going here for the same old Chinese menu available everywhere else in town

This place is Fan-*uck-ngtastic! First time ordering from the place to be delivered and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I ordered your standard Chinese food for my kiddos and I wanted the Pad Thai. It said on the menu it came with chicken and shrimp and I asked the wonderful gal on the phone if I could substitute beef for chicken and she informed me that it only came with chicken and shrimp. No big deal I thought I’ll just eat it as prepared… A few minutes after ordering I got a call back from the Lady informing me that they could do beef and shrimp and that it was already changed in my order. Now this entire ideal from when I ordered on the phone to getting a knock on my door took less than 15 minutes. It was piping hot and tasted great, I will begrudgingly admit it wasn’t the greatest in Denver, but for the price, customer service, and timeliness… I will say I have found my new favorite Asian restaurant to order delivery from!

This place is one of my favorite authentic chinese restaurants in denver. Since I moved here back in June 2015 I’ve ordered out from Golden Shanghai about 5 times and counting. They have the most flavourful food! One of my favorite dishes is the Ma Pao Tofu. Their sushi is also very tasty and the rice is never over done! As someone who has never eaten there in person, I would totally recommend this restaurant as a great place to order out from. It is pretty pricey for take out. But it is worth every penny!

They sign tips for you. That’s ridiculous, and it sucks. They signed the tips and added it up to the total amount. They asked all of us put our signatures on there. How funny? Why they think they have the right to do that?

I am a picky eater and critical when it comes to Asian food. I eat at Golden Shanghai a couple of times each week and the food is consistently amazingly good! The staff is friendly and attentive and the food quality always meets my expectations. — One of the best restaurants I dine at on a regular basis.

Well, I tried the sushi this time. What a huge mistake. I ordered a Philadelphia roll(cucumber, smoked salmon, and cream cheese), a spicy tuna roll, and a dynamite roll(eel, avocado and cucumber inside, spicy salmon and tempura crunch on top). This was a lunch special so it also came with soup — I ordered egg drop. The egg drop was bland even by egg drop standards, but this was easily remedied with a little soy sauce and pepper. There was some weird gelatinous substance in it, however. It was like someone and mixed jello into the broth. That was a little disturbing but I just ate around it. The Philly roll and spicy tuna roll came out first. I immediately noticed that the rolls were very poorly rolled. Not a good sign. This was confirmed when I tried to pick up the first piece with my chopsticks and it immediately fell apart. I notice that there was very little meat or veggies in any of the rolls, they were mostly rice. And in the case of the Philly roll, about 50% cream cheese. All I could taste was the cream cheese. I though I’d get that cloying cream cheese taste out of my mouth by tasting a piece of Spicy Tuna, but I took one bite and immediately spit it out. I understand that a lot of sushi places use their older tuna in the spicy tuna mix, but this tuna was not just old. This tuna was BAD. It immediately turned my stomach and it took eating my boyfriend’s egg roll to get the taste the stinky fish taste out of my mouth. When the server came by to ask how I liked it, I told him I didn’t like it at all. He didn’t apologize or express any concern, but instead asked me if I’d tried both rolls. I said yes and I very much disliked them both and asked him to take them away. He walked off in a huff with the plate as if I had personally affronted him. The dynamite roll came out next. This was was kind of edible once I scraped the«spicy salmon»(mostly mayo with a little fish and hot sauce) off the top. Again, this roll was poorly made and fell apart, so I ended up just eating the insides. The server came back and asked if this one was okay, quite sarcastically I might add, pointing to my pile of rice and spicy salmon. I said this one was fine and was about to warn him that the spicy tuna might be dangerous to serve, but he was gone with the plate before I could even take the necessary breath to get this out. My boyfriend saw him roll his eyes at us as he was leaving. When the check came, they refused to honor my Groupon, saying it wasn’t good for lunch. It didn’t say«Dinner Only» like most reputable establishments will do, but the fine print did say«not good with lunch specials, happy hours, or any other offer» so I couldn’t really argue that. I did, however, get the Groupon refunded as soon as I got home, because there is no way I will ever be returning to Golden Shanghai ever again. That was probably the worst food and service I’ve experienced in over a year of regularly eating out.

This place is legit. I tried their traditional Chinese menu items and they were so good. This place is clean and nicely decorated. Upon me asking for the Chinese menu, they quickly change out the plate settings to Chinese ones. We ordered items we are not familiar with and everything was so good! May be except the vegetable was a bit salty that day. The cold chicken appetizer dish was amazing and the pork wrap was fantastic. I can’t believe that place was under my radar for so long until last night. Definitely a solid 5 star. Now, I didn’t try anything in the non traditional Chinese menu, so can’t comment on that.

We found out about this place from Groupon. Spend $ 12 for $ 20 worth of food. They definitely give you a good amount of food and the food is very tasty, too! I had the Yaki Udon with miso soup. Also, we ordered the lettuce wraps as an appetizer. The Las Vegas roll looks amazing, so we will be back to try it out in the future. My boyfriend wanted to order it as an additional appetizer, but I had to stop him because we didn’t know how much food they would give. Thank goodness I did, because if he had ordered it we would have exploded.

What a great find. I had the kung pao chicken with steamed white rice. What can i say but scrumptious. From the first bite of the steaming hot dish to the last. Every bite got better and better. Two people could have shared a meal very generous portions. Definitely a highlight of the meal is reading the fortune cookies to see what you get. Service was very good and food was brought out very fast. Had a nice relaxing lunch at the establishment. Only thing i didn’t like was the over packed fish tank i could see when i was eating my lunch not very appetizing.

This is what I would call a middle class restaurant, not as fancy as a super upscale place, but much better than some hole in the wall with the kitchen and the seating area in the same general area. The service was fast and prompt, the food was good and very plentiful. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it was brought out on a plate along with a huge bowl of rice big enough to serve 2 maybe 3 people. reasonable prices, clean, and a calming atmosphere that made you feel at ease. Good place to go for lunch and/or dinner without breaking the bank and feeling full.

Note: If you want authentic Chinese as my review highlights below, ask for the traditional menu when you sit down. Otherwise, you will get the typical faux Chinese that’s popular in America. This is as authentic as it gets around here. My significant other was born and raised in Macau, China and I’ve travelled there for months. The staff speaks Cantonese too, which is nice. You can’t order and eat one dish; you order a few and share dishes on your bowl of rice. Staff is on par with staff in China. Take that as you will. Some people prefer it and some don’t, but it’s authentic. The atmosphere is relaxing. It’s not the type of place you run in and run out. Come with friends and family while relaxing and absorbing a lot of food.

This place was so great and so unexpected! My hubby and I were starving and just picked the closest place we had never been too! Lucky lucky us! Ok so the Miso soup was really nice, had a good amount of tofu and the edamame had enough delicious big grind salt that I didn’t have to add the nasty table stuff! And they bring you crispy little wontons that you can tell they make themselves ! Delicious! Then the main course … Our very sweet very fore seeing Malaysian waitress suggested us the Florida roll, which is just too ironic for my hubs and I at this point in our lives! So we got it and it was like sex in ur mouth! I’m talking well sliced salmon and and avocado topped in gooey delicious baked spicy mayo and eel sauce! OMG! The other sushi rolls were decent too, REALLYFRESH, all around! We also got the pad Thai and it was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had! Not too spicy and I’m a huge critic of that, big juicy shrimp and a huge portion! The fortune cookies topped it off with words of wisdom for comfort. Totally going back! — Y. Beezy

Having a tough time deciding between Traditional Chinese, Americanized/ABCDE Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisines? Why not split the difference at Golden Shanghai, and sample some of each? The more traditional offerings(formerly on a separate menu but now integrated with the primary one) are some of the best kept secrets in Southeast Denver. Fuzhou-style wonton soup features many gossamer-thin pork dumplings in a translucent broth. Meanwhile, the Golden Sand Tofu melds the soft smoothness of beancurd with the richness of salted egg yolk. From the municipality formerly belonging to Sichuan province, the Chongqing chicken gets its spicy heft from numerous dried chilies(no, these are not meant to be eaten) scattered throughout. And more adventurous folks will enjoy the hotpot of pork blood, intestines, and tofu. If you’re seeking a bit of history with your meal, don’t forget to sample Mao Zedong’s favorite dish, Hunan-style red-braised pork. But don’t forget the more typical offerings either. Appetizers to piqué your interest include the steamed shrimp orbs called Shumai, dense scallion pancakes, or even some cool, crisp lettuce wraps with chicken and pine nuts. Vegetable fans can avail themselves pf a cornucopia of dishes with ingredients both familiar(eggplant, snow peas, green beans) and less-so(loofah squash, Chinese yam, enoki mushrooms). Then of course, there are all the old flavor favorites — sesame, orange, cashew, garlic, lemon — with your choice of protein. And if you heart isn’t quite set on Chinese you can always have a little sushi, a Vietnamese rice noodle bowl, or even Thai drunken noodles. So stop by and see how Golden Shanghai’s been delighting diners for decades.

A solid four stars for a quasi-suburban area. I had a Groupon expiring soon, so I made of point of using it up. I was the first customer through the door shortly after 11am on a Thursday. There were a few other tables of people by the time I left; mostly an older crowd. Since I was using the Groupon, I could not order any specials(including Lunch). So, ordering off the dinner menu, I went with a cup of Hot and Sour Soup, Fried Dumplings, and Mongolian Chicken. The Hot and Sour Soup was quite good. Nice flavors, no off notes, visible pieces of meat, and crispy chow mein pieces on the side for added texture. The Fried Dumplings(pot-stickers) were fine. They were just a touch doughy, but had good flavor. The Mongolian Chicken was a bit odd. There was nothing really wrong with it, but the flavor profile reminded me of «Mongolian» meets«Black Pepper sauce» instead of pure Mongolian. It had a generous portion of chicken and all the right veggies. This came with a largish serving of steamed rice that was very nice and fresh. Service was mostly good. One minor compliant would be that I mentioned and showed the Groupon at the beginning of the meal, but the server brought out a full bill later and promptly disappeared. So, I had to chase him down to get it fixed before I could depart.
