First, this apartment building is all about location. I’ve never lived in an area that is so closely accessible to bars, restaurants and activities as Baker tower. Third ave and Acoma St is a great place to be for a number of reasons. Second, the apartments themselves are not super roomy, but the views that I have seen are fantastic and include all the décor and little amenities that one needs to live comfortably(laundry in the basement can be frustrating on weekends, but planning times ahead is a simple remedy to that… further, just buckle down and use the gym while your clothes are in the wash, very easy). If you live in downtown Denver or nearby South Broadway, prices are going to be high. Denver itself is growing quickly, and Baker offers a reasonable living situation if you are able to spend around 1,000 a month, sometimes more or less. My girlfriend and I were skeptical moving in at first for the price, however the ease of access to other parts of the city soon made this a fair decision for people moving from out of state; this is particularly true for those looking for a living situation that is very close walking distance to many different activities. Realistically, Baker tower is a large apartment building with all of the typical pros AND cons of any apartment building. Sometimes a little hitch can turn into an issue. After spending almost a year here, i believe the pro’s outweigh the con’s, particularly considering the very kind and willing staff employed here that make the living situation far more comfortable. I would make the same decision again moving into Baker tower from out of state, and even more so considering there are many different leasing options available.

I’ve lived here from about Feb 2013 to August 2013 and I’d like to share with you some of the conditions of the complex and then giving my overall opinion about the two star rating. Location: This is one of the few perks about this place is that you are in walking distance to all of SoBo, you’re just a few turns away from hoping on the freeway if you know the right ways to take, and you can easily drive to LoDo. General Areas: Sometimes the washing machines go out of order, and the dryers do not really get your clothes dry all the time. As with most complexes, the tenants tend to remove your laundry from the dryer if you don’t come back in time. There are only two working elevators, so for a building of roughly eleven floors, it can be difficult at times to get up and down if you live on the higher floors. Especially when moving. I’ve never tried the gym area, so I can’t really say anything about that. Or the game room for that matter. Parking: You can try to find a parking spot in the neighborhood which I never had to do, but I do know that it is not the best idea to go in the neighborhood at night, especially if you are going to be a block or two away. If you do walk out at night, stick to Broadway and walk with someone back to your car, if you parked in the neighborhood. Or, if you get lucky, you can always rent a space on the property. Management: I’ve never had any issues with the staff. Brent has always been able to respond to phone or e-mail whenever there was a package or a concern or just a general question. Maintenance: Always on top of things, especially the emergency maintenance personal. Scott is usually around all the time and is very friendly. Tenants: Generally, you don’t really talk to your fellow tenants. I had a neighbor that I would talk to, but that would be about it. Other than that, people there are generally friendly and polite to you, especially if you are trying to get in and have your hands full, they’ll offer to open the door. Unit: Some of the issues I have had with the actual rental unit was the central vent. There is a vent that is running up all of the floors. A great idea, until someone wants to smoke and you can smell it come into your apartment, followed by the airfresher that they chose to use to try to cover up the smell. The kitchen section is very basic, no microwave or dishwasher. The counter space is extremely limited. The AC unit is not the greatest in the world, as you have to sit in one specific section of the apartment to get the cool air. The heating was never an issue for me, since I never really used the unit for heating. The balcony is a great thing to have, however, pigeons can be very annoying problem. Especially if you have something on the balcony. There is a fair amount of space, but when you take a look at the square footage versus the price you pay, it doesn’t work out all that well. Overall: Despite the positive aspects of location, management, maintenance, and the other tenants, you still have the issues with the common areas and some of the features of the units itself. For me, it seems that this building could use some retrofitting, however, I do understand that that can be a very costly and time consuming endeavor. If you are looking to rent in the SoBo area and have your heart set on living there, this location is ideal for walking to everything you want. If you are more open to the area, perhaps try looking at some of the other properties to the East of SoBo and you might find something along Speer. Otherwise, there are other apartments that have a lot more to offer for a little more in the way of a price tag, but you don’t have the SoBo experience. That’s my review of this complex and I hope that after reading it, it has been helpful to you. I know that some people like to really tear a place’s reputation down, but I try to be as impartial as possible and as honest as I can about my observation of places. Thank you for reading.
