After a frustrating morning of not being able to find anything in my size, I found Athena’s on a Google search. I didn’t expect much, and even when I pulled up to the shop I wasn’t hopeful. However, immediately after starting to look through the racks I found so many great pieces! The staff was friendly, helpful and supportive. The dressing room was comfortable and spacious. I am so glad I found this place!

When you show up at the tail end of the summer season, and the almost last day of their summer sale, with no fall things on display yet, you might think you’d find nothing to buy in the half filled racks. You’d be WRONG! And, as it was, I found 6 things, with some pieces of clothing marked down so far they were almost paying me to take it. What a great place to shop. The prices are fair, the clothes are good quality, and there’s a large variety of things to try on in their comfortable dressing rooms.

We found this place in Unilocal an decided to venture out in crazy Denver traffic to check it out. Boy, am I glad I did! The two ladies working were super nice and greeted me at the door. They didn’t «hover» over me an just allowed me to shop at my own pace. The store was clean, neat and very well organized! They had shirt arranged by color then size. It was easy to skim through quickly. The brands were designer and the clothes were in great quality. They have larger dressing rooms and a great selection of accessories as well! At check out I was offered a map of other thrift/consignment stores in the area and even told of another«plus size» store in town. I was very pleased with my purchases and enjoyed shopping there!

I simply love Athena’s! It’s like going shopping where everything fits! I have been a bit fluffy since the birth of my son, some 14 years ago,(*cough*) and have found that I am an odd sort of size being 5′ 10″ and generally apple bottomed. I tease my husband that as I get older we will eventually look like the number 10 standing next to each other. That aside, I always find something here in fabrics that don’t make me want to itch or shower. Great brands and good fabric are a zaftig woman’s best friends. There is always something new and lovely, and I can find a good pair of Italian shoes there now and then. Love the friendly staff. Love the philosophy of donating the clothes that go unsold to women’s charities. Good sales too. Better than thrift prices on much nicer than thrift clothes. Love them!

Great store, very nice selection of current style clothing which is hard to find in plus sizes. Usually I can walk out of a consignment store empty handed because the clothes were either dated or they did not have my size. I left today with a purse and 2 great tops and I am very very pleased! Prices were excellent and the staff was very helpful and friendly! I will be a customer for life!

Not a fan of the owner! She is not at all friendly and makes you feel like she’s doing you a favor by doing business with you. I have done business with a number of consignment stores in the Denver area and I would NOT recommend this palce to a friend. It’s sad because Denver needs more plus sized consignment stores and maybe the owner thinks that because there are so few, she can treat partners poorly. Don’t bother with this place!

Thank God for Google, is all I have to say. I adore visiting consignment shops. However, when it comes to the cute stuff, unless I’m really on my game, I usually walk away empty-handed, or with something that would work at the office, or possibly a purse or pair of shoes. To go along with that, inevitably, is the tattered self-esteem and the frustration of not being a size four. Enter Athena’s closet, a consignment store for women wearing sizes 14 and up. It’s on the north side of Colfax, east of Colorado Blvd., right near Radio Shack. The lady that runs the place, Rosanna, is lovely and kind and knows what looks good and what doesn’t. She was really helpful and honest in her opinions. Her store is clean and well organized, the dressing rooms are expansive, and the prices(which I was worried about, I won’t lie) were absolutely reasonable. It’s a consignment shop, so the longer the stuff stays on the rack, the cheaper it gets. I got a crazy awesome top for $ 7. And? Upon leaving, she gave me this giant two dollar bill and told me that whenever I return, I can flash my two dollar bill and get a two dollar discount. As many times as I want. Believe it or not, this place is two years old. What? Why haven’t I already heard of this place? Where are my other BBW Unilocalers? The owner told me she’s been having great luck with business, and I can see why. The vast majority of stuff is actually classy stuff, as opposed to a lot of the«I used to be fat» clothes that are discarded elsewhere. Plus, there’s a decent selection of purses, accessories, and shoes. I’m not skeletal. My size is more along the lines of Marilyn Monroe, Queen Latifah, or Kathy Najimy. And you know what? I’m OK with that. In fact, I really dig my boobs. There. I said it. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Be beautiful and honor your size. I’m only now realizing that even though I’m nowhere near my «goal weight,» that’s OK, and I still absolutely deserve to look amazing in a 14 – 16. If you’re working toward treating yourself the way you should have been treating yourself all along, or if you’re one of those awesome ladies that has felt that way for some time, frequent Athena’s Closet.
