Loved the vibe of Old West Café. It was packed for Father’s Day. For breakfast I just had oatmeal and coffee being on a diet and all. My buddy had a traditional breakfast of eggs, ham, hash browns, etc. and could not finish the huge portions. Our server was exceptionally nice and cute too. She kept our coffee cups topped off. It’s a great destination for a country road motorcycle outing, just off FM455 which we road from Anna, TX. In other words, motorcycle friendly.

…so it’s a «part of Denton» in a way. Folks know the place. And so, if you reflect on Texas, Cowboys, horseshoes, old western movies, etc, you will carry the character of those thoughts into the Oldwest Café. On the walls are various statements(not bad) reflective of the brazen do it yourself, don’t be lame, type quotations. Remember the bar in Star Wars where Luke hitches a ride with Hans solo? It’s kinda like that except that it’s not a bar — but a breakfast place. Also, I have yet to see anyone get shot in there with a blaster — so that’s a positive. Because of all this, it’s generally packed. If I were you, I would try and sit towards the middle because there’s two doors and they’re always opening and closing as people come and go. This is especially important to know in the winter and if you’re anticipating stormtroopers. You can choose the exit they’re not coming in to escape.

Their cue system keeps you apprised via text and an app allows you to keep track of your seating status. Once inside, you’re properly and promptly greeted by knowledgeable servers. Having only been there for breakfast, we’ve found a menu item for every taste and hunger level. More often crowded than not, we can see why. Attentive and professional staff, great food, crowded,(albeit comfortable in a small town homey way), and always a friendly send off by personnel at the register.

Wow!!! The breakfast here was amazing. I was told when I moved here that you need to eat here and man were they right. Give it a shot. I had The Wrangler and it was a lot, but it was fantastic. But hey… if I died it would have been glorious and I would have been happy with the way I went.

Oldwest Café is one of the places I miss when I go out of state for any extended period of time. It’s a true Texas establishment with the kind of homemade country food you can’t find everywhere. My favorite menu item is the Create Your Own Panhandler. I don’t see any reason to ever order anything else, although the pancakes sound promising. The Panhandler comes with a large buttermilk biscuit smothered in gravy, topped with 3 eggs, fried potatoes and your choice of meat, cheese, and veggies. It’s the perfect breakfast to start your day right. My only minor complaint with Oldwest is it closes far too early(at 1:00 pm) for a non-morning person such as myself and the prices seem a tad high for certain menu items.

After months of driving by, seeing the parking lot full and people standing outside, my son and I finally had the chance to stop and eat here. To quote my 13 year old son, «This place probably has the best breakfast in Denton!» I got the Wrangler. It has 3 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, ham, hashbrowns, 1 biscuit with gravy and a pancake. The only complaint is my biscuits and gravy were barely warm; however, that didn’t stop me from eating them! They were still good. My son ate the pancake and had hashbrowns and bacon. They cooked his hashbrowns and bacon crispy just like he asked too, so he was happy. I know we’ll be back because there are so many more things on the menu we need to try!

I am so disappointed. I used to love Old West Café. I haven’t been in a while, and today’s visit was so different from what I remember. There was no wait this time, a lot of empty tables actually which I found surprising. But I might have figured out why! My parents and I sat down at our table(seat yourself) and it took a while for our waitress to come over. When she does make it to our table all we get is «what can I get you to drink?» No «hello» or «how are you» or anything of the sort. Her demeanor ended up being like that the whole time. It was clear she didn’t want to be there. Though to be fair, I didn’t see a smile on a single server the entire time we were there. The one time we asked for something, which was silverware by the way, it was clearly an inconvenience. It took a little while for the food to come out which I understand because it’s cooked fresh. Except most of it was cold by the time it arrived. Cold and bland. Nothing was seasoned at all, not even a little bit. I remember how great this place used to be, not sure what happened. Maybe it was an off morning for everyone. It was my first time back in a while and it will be my last time for a while.

Really diverse menu at good prices and very attentive staff. Before coming here I didn’t know anyone added lemon to pancakes, this was a pleasant surprise. The have the most diverse selection of pancakes I have seen along with many other menu items. The staff was on point with their attention to customers wants and needs.

We ate here yesterday. I have heard about long lines and slow service but we walked right in and were seated right away. It was at 1:30 on a Weekday though, and they close at 2:00. The menu is expansive, they have one menu for breakfast and one for lunch. We ordered coffee and breakfast. Service was good, waitress was nice, food was good and hot, coffee was good. We cant wait to go back and order lunch. We saw some salads that looked really good. We had the trainrobber and the rustler with blueberry lemon pancakes.

Amazing breakfast!!! Everything was wonderful but the Texan Omelet and the cinnamon french toast was out of this world awesome!!! We ordered it to go since there is always a good wait time to get a table.

Food was excellent. Coffee good. Service a bit slow but not the servers fault… Did not appear that there were enough staff on hand. It is Mother’s Day, so I’m guessing the bulk of the team was working a later shift.(I was there at 7:30) Guy on register best part of experience. Excellent customer service All in all, excellent … Definitely recommend and will be back

So I love this place and think about it all the time now. Specifically one item. LEMONBLUEBERRYPANCAKES. they are huge! And yet one is not enough for me, especially if I share with someone. I like all their other dishes fine. But this lemon blueberry is amazing!!! The lemon puts in that extra touch of deliciousness! But apparently, this location is better than the Grapevine location. I had the LB pancakes there and was quite disappointed. At first I was like, this doesn’t taste the same. Then noticed they didn’t cook the blueberries in the pancake and only tossed a few on top. So it barely had any blueberries. And they forgot to give me the blueberry sauce. I had to try again in the Denton location. PERFECTION! It came out perfect and completely what I remembered it to be. So now I will only order these here.

Food was good but there are two entrances — one at each end of the restaurant, with no double doors. People were entering and leaving constantly through both doors and every time someone opened a door, the whole restaurant was blasted with cold air. In the winter I would not come here. I was also not informed that one of the sides I ordered(with my entrée that came with two sides) would incur a $ 3.50 upcharge.

YOUWILLHAVETOWAIT… BECAUSEITSTHATGOOD!!! Usually no longer than 20 min. I love how they text you know when you are up. I can sit in my truck and wait now. The food is amazing. Some of the best breakfast food I’ve had. I’ve now tried at least half the breakfast menu. The omelette was very tasty and the beefsteak was right on. Huge portions too. Coffee is really good and they offer lots of choices of creamer. The chicken fried steak was amazing. The biscuits and gravy are some one the best I’ve had since my mom. My wife only orders one thing, the blueberry lemon pancakes but she swears by them and I must admit they are pretty good! I know why they have won best breakfast in Denton… THEY are that good!

I don’t venture out to this location anymore, but I figured I owe the Denton location a review since they were my first experience with Oldwest Café. When it comes to the food, I’ve had something from pretty much every section on the breakfast menu(yes, even the healthy part). If I listed everything, this review would be a novel so let me just say this: all of the food is fantastic. Neither me nor my friends have ever ordered something and been disappointed or just satisfied with it; we all have always loved everything. The atmosphere here is also great. I love the Western theme! The staff here is also phenomenal. They manage to get some of the most friendly and hard working staff I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. This is a great establishment in every possible way. Potentially helpful notes: 1) There will be a lengthy wait on weekends, but it is definitely worth the wait. I use to come with a group of 10 people and we all gladly waited outside for an hour or more. If you’re a smaller group, I don’t expect the wait to be that long, but there will still be a wait. They don’t really have any space inside for you to wait, so be prepared to wait outside(i.e. bring a jacket in the winter). 2) The pancakes are HUGE. When you look at the menu, don’t be upset that the pancake combos only come with one or two pancakes. You will not need more than two pancakes. Most people I know can only finish one. I love their pancakes, but I also really like their other dishes so what I do is pair up with someone, have us both order our own non-pancake meal, and then also order one pancake to share. That way you get the best of both worlds. 3) They’re really accommodating. If you don’t see your ideal combo on the menu, just tell the waiter/waitress what you want and he/she will figure out the cheapest way to get all of those items together. 4) You can’t beat the prices here. Their delicious food and large quantities will not break the bank.

Oldwest is one my favorite American-Texan breakfast spots in Denton. Because I say Texan you can bet everything is made with a little extra butter and cheer. I haven’t been disappointed yet! The restaurant is always packed, which shows I’m not the only one who leaves pleased. Take the chance and check this place out! Coffee is good too! :) 4 stars instead of 5 because i don’t always like an ‘extra fat’ added breakfast. … But every once in a while a Texas girl just needs it!

Alyssa K. and I went here before my flight back to Minneapolis, and we weren’t exactly running late(early more like), but I’m paranoid as hell about being late for a flight. We arrived and were almost immediately seated, despite the fact that the place was packed. Service is prompt, friendly, and fast. We ordered and our food appeared seemingly instantaneously, though there must have been at least a ten minute wait? Haha, it’s hard to remember. The food here is simple breakfast food. If you’re looking for some sort of complicated, haute-brunch place to be at, this isn’t the place for you. Basically, the entire menu is breakfast comfort food. It’s the kind of stuff I can easily find in Wisconsin(though weirdly harder to find in Minneapolis-St. Paul), and the kind of breakfast food I make for myself when I bother to cook. I had sausage and giant, giant homemade buttermilk pancakes. They were as big as my head! And so, so delicious. I was sad I had to leave them with Alyssa K., but I don’t think the TSA would have been okay with me trucking giant pancakes across the country. Alyssa had some sort of giant omelet nonsense that looked amazing with bacon on the side, but also appeared to be as big as my head. She probably survived on the leftovers for the last week, which considering I paid a whole $ 12 for my breakfast I managed to eat a third of, seems like a very successful excursion if you don’t want to grocery shop for the next week!
