This is the worst BBQ we’ve ever had! The fries tasted old, the ribs were undercooked and tasteless, and the fried mushrooms were soggy and awful!

They say they open at 10am however the kitchen does not open till 10:30am. It would be nice if they advertised that.

Went today because I love their bbq sandwiches and burgers. I also had a text coupon for growler fills. I paid full price for my 64 oz growler and was supposed to get a 32oz fill free. I paid for my beer and ate my food, then I got the growlers and went home. Good was good. Transaction went smoothly. I get home and go to pour a beer from my 64 oz growler and it’s only half full. Lesson learned. Always check the growler before leaving. That knocks it down a star because if I paid $ 20.00 for the growler fill, I expect the growler to be filled properly.

Metzlers is a resonant favorite. It is not a new or pretty hotspot inDenton. It is good food and a good man that owns it. Unique options for appetizers, great sweet potato fries and some great German sandwiches. The fact that you can eat a good sandwich and find a bottle of delicious wine is perfect!

The Rueben sandwich is amazing especially with the German potato salad. AND this place hides the best selection of beers in the city of Denton. The craft beer unicorn lives at Metzlers. Prosit!

Love the sausage sandwich or the sausage plate with German potato salad! I live nearby so have been going here for years. Metzler’s Barbecue out of Muenster Texas is located in a former 7 – 11 building, a wonderful place to get takeout after working in the yard. I normally get a soft drink and peruse the wine labels while waiting for my order; they are hysterical these days. At least one bottle follows me home nearly every time. I have never had the personnel problems listed here but then I feel sometimes you get back what you project. If that is not the case, speak up! Do not let a rude person keep you away from one of the better barbecue joints in Denton. The place isn’t much, although clean, but the food is great, drink choices are abundant and I usually run into at least one neighbor over there!

Metzler’s is my favorite BBQ place in Denton. Their sausage, turkey and pork are always great and never a let down. I will say I am not a fan of their ribs. As for their sides, the German Potatoes are my favorite side dish. They are moist and well seasoned. I recently went there and had their jalapeño potato poppers and those were delicious. Don’t get them if you are wanting spicy, because they aren’t. They were more like a buttery hashbrown ball. I will always go to Metlzers when craving BBQ dishes.

Although it is not the only non-chain BBQ in Denton, it has been around for quite a while and is a true Denton establishment. The food is great — I would not say it’s the best BBQ I’ve ever had, but it’s still very good and very good for the price. My only complaint is that I’m not a fan of their BBQ sauce. It’s flavor just isn’t my type. But still, if I’m on need of good BBQ for a good deal, I will go here. They are also a German restaurant/food shop with lots of unique wines and beers. I’ve yet to try that side of it yet, but look forward to it. Although I do love Rudy’s(see my review) I really only love it for meats and sauce, so when it comes to getting a real meal and supporting a local Denton place, I end up going here more than anywhere else for BBQ.

The service was terrible, the guy at the counter passed me over and waited on a male customer. I pointed out his error, but he never apologized or acknowledged it. The brisket was dry and had almost no flavor! It tasted as if it was old and reheated. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Metzler’s is one of my favorite local places. Its a barbecue place with a dash of german food. The bbq is pretty good and they have a wide selection of sides I always get take out but they have a small dining area as well. But why I really love this place is because they have the widest beer selection I have ever seen. Easily 100 different brews and prices are reasonable. Stop in grab some bbq and a six pack!

Metzlers’s– c’mon. The original Metzler’s was amazing– the outpost on University not so much. Regardless of the fact that it’s in an old 7 – 11, Metzler’s BBQ hasn’t reached this far out in Denton. Dry. Very dry. The edges of the beef were super crispy, almost burnt bacon-ish. Just rough stringy stuff their at the ends. The turkey followed suit as well, just no type of moistness at all. The sides never fail– the potato salad and fried okra really hit the spot, and in abundance. Some things Metzler’s just don’t quit. The waitstaff was there. Saying that they were present, but not really aware they had customers. They do suggest that you can select your beers from their freezers, but outside of that if they remember you’re there, you’re lucky. They’ll buzz your table, but unless the check is up and ready to go, they don’t think twice to pass you by.

Stopped in here to pick up some wine and beer for later and just couldn’t stop looking at the counter to order food. There is a smell thats very inviting, like walking into Kreuz BBQ in Lockhart. So I left and couldn’t get that smell out of my mind, so about 2 hours later came back and ordered a sausage and brisket sandwich with german potato salad. The sausage is very good, I believe they make it in-house but not for sure, good snap when u bite it and good flavor. Now the brisket needs some work, it was just too bland for me, but at least it wasn’t dry. German potato salad??? Well at least try it, being stationed in Germany for 5 years, it reminded my of the times spent there. Served warm, just needed a little more cucumber and vinegar. Next time I’m in Denton, I will for surely go back to try something else. Didn’t have time to eat there, so not sure about the service, but the counter service was good. And probably the biggest beer selection I have seen in the area.

Well they do read their Facebook. Went in yesterday and stood at the counter for almost 10 minutes. Girl and guy behind the counter made eye contact but never said a word. one guy even picked up an order pad like he was going to take my order but then walked away. I understand this was lunch(1:20 pm) but this was ridiculous. I said thanks and just walked away, still no one said a word. Rude, very rude. I posted a comment to them as soon as I got home on Facebook, this morning they have already removed it. At least they know how to keep their Facebook page cleaned up.

Just a very consistent BBQ place here in Denton. I go in for the turkey melt every time but I’ve strayed and had the chopped beef. I’d suggest the melt though: nice chopped turkey with melted Swiss, grilled onions, and get some mustard on that bad boy? Doesn’t get much better. For you beer and wine nuts out there they have a fantastic selection, especially of beer. You can always stop by, grab a six pack of some crazy foreign beer, and munch on some good que. Love this place.

Just north of TWU you’ll be in an authentic Texas truck stop, but with a more counter cultured young set. Still, true Texas is counter culture so it still keeps it country. The big menu tempted me to gorge but I got the one meat plate with brisket, pinto beans and fried okra. Still, the meat portion is almost a pound so it’s officially out of control. With such an awesome beer case, the singles were limited but luckily included spaten. You’d be smart to buy a six pack and party here w friends. Brisket was a bit overly thick and so was the, more appropriately, tangy sauce. There were a few, but just enough, strips of fat. The beans rocked and the okra mighta been frozen. Metzlers doesn’t try to be a top Texas monthly BBQ joint, but it sure comes close, especially with its no nonsense Texas roots ambiance. I could imagine eating here with my grandparents, meaning they would approve. Metzlers might be fast food old school but it’s virtually 5 stars in its unassuming unapologetic gift card to modernized Texas culture.

I have never had the BBQ, but it smelled pretty delish when I stopped by, so I’d be up for some nibbles! SERIOUS beer selection. Dentonites, get your beer here! Vast selection and the pricing is on par with Central Market/Mr. G’s when it comes to the more impressive beer finds. Absolutely a place worth supporting!

It’s surprising that with all of my Denton area friends, that Metzler’s only has five reviews? The place has been around a really, really long time. Good bbq, good beer selection and you can even purchase sausages that you can throw on your own grill. Good, cheap bbq and fries that are very curley and very good. I’ve been to Metzler’s a number of times, even with the kiddo and I’ve never left disappointed. They also added a room for the big single beer bottles… so coool. All good beer from across the US and other places. They had growlers of Dead Guy ale. I’ve never seen that here in Texas before. As other reviews have said, I have never seen the places all that busy, but the food comes out quick and the girl with the blue streaked hair made sure I knew it was ready. Go for the food, go for the beer and wine selection and go because it’s all really affordable. Support Denton businesses.
