I’m a hookah junkie and will go to any new hookah place I am near. That being said, I think being in my 30s now, I’ve just become too old for a place like this. I definitely see the appeal and draw for the college kids and the 20-something that make up this place’s clientele. It’s dark, the seating is worn down, and all the blacklight posters just don’t work for me anymore. I don’t even want to imagine what this place looks like with the lights on. The hookah was nothing special, I don’t even remember the flavors I ordered. The best thing about this place was the staff was really friendly.

Not the the best hookah place. No A/C. Just fan. Cheap shisha. Cheap coal. & seats are uncomfortable. They still charge full price

Overpriced, loud, and slow. The only thing they have going for them are the black lights and highlighters. Other than that the people in there were intolerable and extremely drunk, and there was only one poor guy helping customers while the women were just? I’m not sure what they were doing. Not their job for sure though. Go to Jasmine’s instead, good food, better hookah, better service.

I’ll sum this up pretty quickly: Overpriced, low quality hookah. Long wait time for your hookah. Horrid music playlist and 50c jukebox. Poor table service. Uncomfortable seating. The place is too small, smells awful, and the list goes on. My personal verdict: Not even once.

This place is pretty legit. We had a bit of a wait to get some hookah but the pumpkin spice is pretty bad ass! I will definitely be making more visits to play with the bubbles and hi liters :)

Probably not coming back here. This place is conveniently placed close to UNT and on Fry st along with a lot of other bars and such. The venue is interesting on the outside, and in the inside it’s all neon and blacklights. That part is cool. But however, it’s really small and uncomfortable to sit for longer than 15 minutes. Our waitress didn’t pay us a lot of attention, and the other employees were really awkward and unprofessional. The hookah was okay but extremely overpriced.

Just go somewhere else. It’s not worth the money. The only thing they have going for them is the highlighter/blacklight thing. I used to go often my freshman year, solely because I couldn’t go to the bars and they were open late. My experiences have been eh. The seating isn’t as comfy as other places, and I’m not sure what the most recent staff is like, but when I would frequent the place, some of the staff were ruuuuude and unpleasant. Plus it looks freaking sketchy outside on a friday or Saturday night. I think you’ll understand what I mean if you’ve been past there. I can’t even see the entrance sometimes, there’s so many people out front.

So, I had a friend in town and we went up to Winstar. On the way back, it was around 2:30 am on a Thursday evening and we were ready to go home yet. I remembered on my last visit that this place stays open til 6am. I checked the website, as well as Unilocal to be sure… and yep 6am. Sweet! So we get there, and it’s dead. as expected but who cares? We only have a few steps in the place when the lady is yelling at us from the counter saying they are closing. I walk up and tell her that I thought they closed at 6am? She says…“6am or dependent on business”. That would be an extremely important point to list on your business webpage. Don’t waste people’s time. I don’t live in Denton, so making the stop off of i35 is a pain to do for nothing. How are we supposed to know how business is doing? How about we keep it on the safe side. and never come back.

I keep coming back. It’s true: it’s not exactly the greatest place in the world. The servers can be really nice or rude. Ryan(one of the guys who works there now) comes off rude, flippant, and blunt. But really, after a little while, he’s chatty(not necessarily a bad thing). He came and sat down with us for a little while. The bathrooms can be ok, or just not okay at all. One time I went and the floor was a little flooded. Not okay. Water everywhere and I was afraid to touch anything. The music? There’s a jukebox where you put in a dollar to pick two songs. So really, it’s up to the people who are there to pay up for the music if you want to listen to something you particularly want to. They have a good selection. I always pony up because I enjoy listening to what I want to. If nobody pays, it kind of plays random music. It is loud in there though. Have to talk pretty loud if I want anyone to hear me. How you like the ambiance is completely subjective. Some people like it, some don’t. I do. The lights are low with lights that make bright colors and highlighters glow. They give you a couple of highlighters when you sit down so you can scribble on your friends. And like someone else said, they give you soap water sometimes so you can blow smoke bubbles. They have posters that glow and a stripper pole in one end; to be honest, I’ve never seen anyone actually dance on it. Ryan did the flagpole on it however; that is, where he uses his arms to pull himself horizontal to the ground like a flag. Impressive if you ask me. I go to Kush for the ambiance, not necessarily the quality of the hookah. The hookah is ok, not the best I’ve had. It’s not strong enough to make me want to cough ever(which I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing). The taste of it can be pretty weak sometimes. The place is a bit pricey for my tastes too. Also, there are freaking black boxes everywhere(used as chairs) and they get annoying when you want to move around and adjust. I still keep going back though; I personally like it enough to do so.

This place is «interesting» to say the least. The set up is a turn off and just strange, overall I’ve had MUCH better. But, there are a few quirky things I appreciate about it. First off it’s pitch black with all black furniture in there and nothing but black lights. You get highlighters and draw on your table and it glows in the black light of course. So kinda cool concept, fun to do with a friend to kill time. Good service also, they are good conversationalist but maybe it’s because they all seem stoned. This place also houses of a diverse cast of UNT students who likewise seem perma-fried. But by far the most entertaining thing(which isn’t saying much TBH) is blowing smoke bubbles with these ghetto styrofoam bowls and soapy water. It’s very simple and distracting. Perfect if you have ADHD like me, and will keep you entertained. But here’s the issues: Their furniture is xtremely uncomfortable hard, ridged. This is a hookah bar? Where’s all the comfy throw pillows and plush couches? What gives?! Music = LOUDANDOBNOXIOUS! Mostly newer«bro metal» as I call it. Like the stuff you hear on the title or loading screen of a Madden or UFC video game. Metal in hookah bars don’t really go hand-in-hand. I mean occasionally they’ll play a bit of electronica mixed with some middle eastern music, that makes more sense but not more than a few songs later they’ll go back to generic thrash and crap. All-in-all this place is completely weird and meh. Check it out if you’ve tried all the other better places in Denton.

This was my second visit to Kush, after being a regular at Jasmine’s for nearly two years. We had the same server both times, and while overwhelmed, he managed to keep the atmosphere positive. (I’m so sorry that I don’t know your name!) Our first night coming in was on a regular weekday, it was pretty empty and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Our second visit, tonight, was full to the brim and much more chaotic. They had obviously run out of highlighters from being so busy that night, but they still managed to make it a good experience for us. I love the(womens’) bathroom walls. You could get lost reading every piece of art in there. The(I assume owner) offered to order me in a hoodie in my size after I asked if they had any left. All that is keeping me from a 5-star rating is the amount of the more obnoxious kids that always seem to flock in.

Let me tell you of the story of Kush . I returned to Denton from Austin, thinking that this location of the former Hookah Hookah had some fun memories. I went late with some friends and had fun with their black light and high lighters. Cool concept. I excused myself at one point to tinkle and I went to the restrooms, which is conveniently located next to the hookah pipes, where two staff members were diligently preparing them. I opened the door of the restroom to find a dude, with a surprisingly small pp(children term used for good measure), enjoying himself to some pictures of nudie girls on the wall. But the real review of Kush is that their tobacco sucks. What more would you not want from a place that pushes tobacco? «Meh, I’ve experienced [much] better.»

Atmosphere is great, very trippy, love the lasers. Music is terrible though, not conducive to relaxing.(at least on a Thursday). Don’t get the oxygen, it’s a placebo.

Fun place to hang out. Kush offers a variety of hookah at great prices. The staff is friendly and helpful for first timers. They give you highlighters and bubbles to play with the blacklight. Very enjoyable experience.

The hookahs are overpriced, the employees are unfriendly, and the whole place tries too hard to be like a club

It is ok. It is the younger crowd(18 – 21) mostly, the hookah tobacco is cheap-its byob and is open late till 6am. HOWEVER, the décor is something out of a hit of acid(psychedelic blacklight cheap looking posters, stools with highlighter writing all over it(the idea is they give you highlighters to write all over the place), however this just makes the place look cheap. It is loud and most of the time if you are of drinking age you will be surrounded with 18 year old squealing girls. It has a nice selection of hookahs(I would go on a night other than fri or sat), less people that are annoying. The waitress I had was cute and nice. The place just seems too teenybop.

Great place. Unique hookah place for being laid back with its black lights and low tables that let you write with high lighters all over yourself or on the table. Perfect for killing a buzz and relaxing after the bars. Also its Bring your own beer! Which is perfect since it’s open until 6am. So this is especially great if you’re bummed about the bars being closed after 3am. My friends and I brought our own beer with no problem. Also another thing is that there’s a jukebox, so you pick the music. Seating allows for pillows, and there’s internet access. Another unique thing is there’s offerings of Middle Eastern dishes and desserts on the menu along with the Hookah choices. I highly recommend people try stuff from this menu. It’s great! Added addition of being an oxygen bar(which supposedly kills a hang over too), makes it an even better place for ending your night.
