I’ve been shopping here for years! Excellent plant selection, great prices, and the best produce around! Their staff is very knowledgable and helpful, and if someone doesn’t know the answer to a question, they always have someone who does. Can’t wait to stop in this weekend to pick out some pumpkins and cider!

Since the only time I had been to Hart’s was in the winter, I decided to check ‘em out in the spring, when apparently they are THE place to go for gardening. While my experience wasn’t bad, I did knock a star off. And I’ll tell you why. 1) Service wasn’t nearly as great. Maybe bcs they’re so busy this time of year? But I asked a young lady about pansies and she literally said, «Are you kidding?» She then explained to obviously stupid me that pansies are an EARLY spring flower, and this was LATE spring and they had been sold out FOREVER. Well. I’m a new gardener, and I’m insecure and nervous about what to plant. And I wasn’t even excited to put a single flower in the ground until I remembered the little pansy garden my mom and I tended together when I was young. So getting g*ddamned pansies was g*ddamned important to me! I went and bought a few at Shaws(not sold out). And they’re doing just fine, thank you very much. 2) I bought a bell pepper six pack. Still hardening them off. A couple days ago I noticed a spot on one of the leaves. By today, I would say 75% of the leaves have bacterial leaf spot. No treatment, so the plant is basically going in the trash(I pruned it and will see what happens, bcs hope springs eternal). This disease either comes from soil or contaminated seeds. So best case, Hart Farms got a bad batch from a vendor; worst case, they are using contaminated, diseased soil. Oh, and to pour vinegar on the paper cut, after I pruned back basically all of my plant, I realized there were only 5 starts in their. One of the little 6-pack cups was totally empty. I’m just grateful I noticed this before I put them in the ground and infected my other veggies. So yeah, I still think a trip to Hart’s is a wonderful experience, and I WILL be going back, probably many times! But after such a wonderful visit there in the winter, my experience this spring left me a little cold.

Excellent and extensive selections! Very knowledgeable staff that takes their time in answering your questions. Limited parking, which can get crazy on weekends during Summer. Get there early!

Last summer I wrote about some impatiens I bought at Hart’s Farm. The plants were diseased and died. For some reason two people found this review funny. In a current Cape Cod Times was an article about a disease(Impatien downy mildew) which has now spread to 35 states. It cautioned gardeners not to buy the plants. New Guinea impatiens are bred from a different specie, and are safe to plant.
