Eisenhower Birthplace Historic Site

If your a history buff like I am, you’ll enjoy this state historic site of where our 34^th President, Dwight David Eisenhower was born.
From the 12 minute video, to the period architecture and furnishings to the very sweet lady, Chris, who gave us a guided tour… it was a wonderful experience!
As you can tell much has changed in the 125 years since his birth. What was once a busy neighborhood is now a quiet quaint getaway. It is off the beaten path as another reviewer posted, but it is in no way a challenge to find… if you can read a map and/​or have a navigator, all you have to do is follow those and the numerous signs directing you there and it’s really simple to find.
I highly recommend to history buffs and anyone else who «Liked Ike»!

Took my mother here last summer as a way to kill about two hours.
It’s quite a challenge finding this place. You drive right through downtown Denison, and venture off into a shady neighborhood. The visitor’s center pops up out of nowhere. Two old homes next to it have been converted into make shift resting areas.
Inside the museum (which is an old house) you can view vintage Eisenhower memorabilia, watch a short film on his life, and choose to take the tour. Which is only $ 4. For some reason they charged me as a student, and I got in for $ 3. I bought a vintage postcard, and the guide came to take us up the hill.
Outside, there is a life size statue of Ike, the gardens (which are tended by college students and volunteers), and the house. It’s an old two story Victorian. Inside, every room is decorated with items that were commonly used during the late 1800s. Note, these are not items from The Eisenhower Estate. I think the only item that actually belonged to the family was the baby cradle.
The house is well worth the time. It took about an hour to see everything. The upstairs is blocked off and used for storage. It’s a good thing we couldn’t go up there.; the steps are so narrow I’m surprised anyone can fit climbing up it!
Recommend for history buffs, people who love to view old homes, parents to teach their children about history, or heck, everyone! This was a fantastic tour!

As a fan of United States history and Texas salesman (someone who brags all day long about how great Texas is), Eisenhower Birthplace Historic Site is a great find. I sort of just stumbled upon the place for the first time while writing a paper about Dwight and his many accomplishments.
Did you know Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first president to have a pilots liscense? He was also the first president to enter a nuclear submarine, but the real interesting facts about Eisenhower one should swing by his birthplace. I think you will be suprised to learn some of the different ways Eisenhower influenced certain historical events that produced positive outcome.

Nice quaint historic site… it’s a little bit off the beaten path, but there are signs directing you once you get off 75.
The area surrounding the historic site is a little rundown, but they’ve kept up the grounds of the Eisenhower site nicely.
If you’re in the area and have some free time (like I did), it’s worth stopping by, but note that they are closed on Mondays.

We were staying at a campground on Lake Texoma which had a list of ‘things to do in the area’. Included on that list was this Historic Site, otherwise I don’t know that we would have ever known about it, which would have been a shame!
Our future President was born here in 1890 and would move away before his third birthday. Still, it’s interesting to hear the family history and to see the room in which he was born. The site contains a small visitor center which has a short movie along with the homesite. You are able to take in the museum and movie for no charge. If you wish to tour the home there is a charge of $ 4 per person, well worth it in our opinion.
