I lived in Delaware for 4 years and never ate here … I definitely regret that now … Opa is a solid place with with good food and friendly service … The fried calamari rings for the appetizer were very good … I highly recommend the kopanisti gyro its so good, ask for it with garlic sauce on the side … Definitely a place I will come back to when I visit good old Delaware!

The best gyro my husband and I have ever had. The home made fries are awesome as well. The meat is tender and seasoned perfectly. We go weekly and love it! Good baklava as well.

We visited on a Thursday evening and, to be honest, our dining experience at Opa was a bit awkward. Upon entering, we were told to seat ourselves anywhere we like. Which reminds me, they really should purchase a sigh or assign a host rather than continually yell. There were only a couple seats open, which seemed like a good sign. We wound up at a seriously wobbly table. While that alone is not a big deal, a wobble does lead one to look around and realize, «hmm the décor and a welcomin, positive atmosphere is kinda lacking.» It was also difficult to hold a conversation with two televisions showing a history program about Nazis over top the music. Our server was not outright right rude, but there was no interaction that could have been considered friendly… and we tried. It seems they were caught short staffed. Moving on to food, my Pita Gyro was okay. But the gyro meat did not taste as if they cook it in house which kinda defeats the purpose of going to a restaurant, no? The pita, however, was good as was the overall portion size. The Calamari Platter – salad, choice of fries, pita, rice and calamari, was also just okay. But once again the purported star of the meal, the calamari, was not so good; tasting rubbery and lacking flavor. Maybe we would return, but it is unfortunately going to be awhile.

My wife and I ate dinner here on Sunday March 15, 2015. This was our first visit. After a year living in Delaware, OH I found myself craving a gyro and knew of no place to find one. I quick search turned up the OPA Grill & Tavern, so we decided to check it out. Service was pretty mediocre. There were two servers for four, maybe five tables, so they weren’t too busy. The wait staff wasn’t bad, they just didn’t seem to care. I ordered a gyro with onion rings, my wife ordered a salad with gyro meet. To me a gyro is meat, lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki on a soft, warm, grilled pita. My pita was dried and crunchy. They added banana peppers and feta(which was nice) but there was no tzatziki. If it was there I could neither see it, nor taste it. Also the portion of meat was significantly less than I would get at nearly any gyro shop. The onion rings were decent, battered rather than breaded, which is how I like them. My wife’s salad was alright as well, the veggies were cut in to rather large chunks, but whatever, that’s not a huge deal. Everything was«okay» so on the food(and probably on the service too) I’d give it 3 stars, but my biggest problem was the price. A gyro, onion rings, salad, and one soda came to $ 25. The same meal at Acropolis in Clintonville(where I used to go before moving to Delaware) costs $ 15… for better food. So while it wasn’t bad, it certainly wasn’t worth the price.

I dined-in once, and unfortunately the service was slow and inattentive. They were understaffed and it seems they still are. But that’s okay, because I just order takeout now! On to what matters most: Best gyro in town. For me, it is the sauce they put on the gyro, which is not a tzatziki sauce, but a creamy garlicky heaven sauce. It would be foolish to not get the fresh cut fries, because the alternative is frozen Ore-Ida(or equivalent).

Food was great. Severely understaffed. I could eat that spinach feta spread all night. Greek salad was decent. Not a big fan of creamy, but it had flavor. Entrée was a spicy chicken. It was very good. I’d go back but not if its crowded. 10 minutes before someone came to the table. Only had one drink refill.

The atmosphere is relaxed. There’s definitely a college town feel to it. The service was good. It took awhile to get our drink orders in and our check to us for it being lunch time. It wasn’t so busy for that to have been a thing but other than that it was solid service. Kept the drinks full and checked up with us. The food was delicious and tasted fresh. Filling but not overwhelming. I’ll be back next time. Very good first impression.

Food has leveled off to the«ok» level, which is a sad thing. The amount of falafel in a falafel gyro is half of what it used to be. Or it at least seems that way. I would love to see all of their food come with fries included, or at least the menu state that chips are included and fries are an upcharge. It is a bit misleading. Staff was not as attentive as I am used to. Might have been an off day for them, but I could not tell for sure. With downtown getting more competitive, this place really needs to tighten things up and fight for more customers. They really could be the #1 place in the city if they wanted to.

This is easily one of the best in town! I love the Kopanisti chicken in a gyro or salad. When they are serving the half chicken, it’s delicious with lemon potatoes. Mushroom soup is so good and can’t go wrong with any of the dips. They frequently have specials so you are always able to try something new. None of the food is bad! They have a good variety of beers and make a good dirty martini as well. Service is always great so you won’t be disappointed here.

Food is delicious — I think the hummus portions have gotten smaller, which I don’t really like. I usually get excellent service, but have had an off day once or twice. The gyros are very good!

I’ve had mixed results here– Sometimes the calamari is AWESOME– other times its all burnt and grizzle and smells like Alum Creek. Hummus– since its freshly made its sometimes runny… sometimes not. Bartender– STOPMAKINGDRINKS. You are just a cashier and we all go to Vitos first to drink. Wait Staff– College kids… some are good… some try to sneak in charges but don’t tell you– you end up paying for it with your tip. Gyros– good but sometimes you just wonder how old that lamb meat really is…

I have been to Opa twice. Once for lunch, when I got the Gyro special. The price was right and the fresh cut fries were awesome. The meat in the gyro was not as hot as I would have anticipated. The second time I went was for dinner and got the spicy chicken kopanisti. It was very good(also with the fresh cut fries). And in my opinion much more flavor than the original gyro. Both times I had the same server, and both times she was slow. She was not very attentive to our table, and definitely had to be reminded of anything we asked her for(an extra plate, etc.). When I was there for dinner there were just two of us and our drinks arrived super slow(a beer and a glass if wine). As did our check.

My partner and I love OPA. The spicy chicken kopanisti gyro is the way to go. Order it with fresh cut fries for a great meal. They do have some traditional Greek foods but nothing that you wouldn’t find in a good small town mom and pop place. There was a different Mediterranean restaurant in this location before that had more ethnic foods but it lasted under a year so an Americanized menu is probably a good call on the part of OPA. I would point out that those Unilocalers who have said the burgers here are underwhelming are correct. I would point out that you don’t go to McDonalds and order sushi. Stick to the Greek foods and your taste buds will be happy.

We went for lunch. They have a gyro special on Monday. You get a Gyro, Frys and a drink for about $ 6. The Gyro was good but the meat was cool, not very hot. I got the fresh cut fries and you could tell that the frying oil is old and needs to be changed. Still, the food was good enough for me to want to come back and try something else. The price was very reasonable. The biggest problem was the speed of service. We went for Monday lunch and ordered the special. It should have been out super fast. It took about 35 minutes from the time we sat down to the time for our food came to the table. Good thing I was off today otherwise I would have been late getting back to work. The servers were nice but the overall speed was way to slow for lunch.

Having a hankering for calamari and seeing that OPA offered it, I took my chances and ordered a cheeseburger and calamari. Weird combo… but I’m overly picky. The burger was dry, the cheese was limited and the calamari was repulsive. There is no reason squid should be served from frozen store bought product. I don’t want to eat greasy overly breaded food that tastes like the freezer. Bleh

Dropped in again, this time with a companion, and we agree– it’s pretty good. We did have to stand around for quite a few minutes waiting to be seated… and yes, there’s still a sign saying«wait to be seated». We then had to wait a while for them to decide who would take our table. Once we got settled, though, we didn’t have any other issues. The service was a bit slow, but then the place was very crowded and tight. Every table was occupied, and I felt bad for the poor servers trying to manage the narrow aisles. This time, we started out with a pan seared calamari appetizer, which was very good. The texture was chewy, flavor delicate, and quantity plentiful. This was served with a nice portion of the delicious puffy pita bread. For our entrees, we both got pitas– she picked the classic and I the keftedes. Both were pretty good, and served with that tasty bread. However my companion remarked and I agree that they could use more meat. There is a ton of lettuce and tomato which makes the plate look huge, but there’s not as much as you’ll think at first glance. What is there, though, is pretty good. I will confess the keftedes were a bit heavy on the char flavor for my taste but I still enjoyed the sandwich. The best part, we thought, was dessert. We tried two things — a Greek pastry made with a birds nest of dough, honey, and so on… and rice pudding. The pastry was okay — good texture, mild flavor — but the rice pudding was exceptional. I don’t even like rice pudding and liked this. Thick, warm, and creamy, the rice grains were huge and chewy, suspended in a gooey mass of softly sweet deliciousness with none of the wateriness that I usually hate in the stuff. Overall, I think this place has some great potential, and is definitely worth trying if you are in the area.

I came here after the famer’s market to grab some lunch. I had passed by this place a gazillin times but never stopped. I like Greek food, so when I see«Greek» on your sign I expected a wholly Greek experience. On the menu there were a lot of «spread» and gyros and of course saganaki. But that was it, the rest was some pastas and burgers and salads. My partner ordered the Gyro and fell in love. I ordered the bacon cheese burger and was underwhelmed. My burger was one of those frozen patties that they just slapped cheese and bacon on… It had a weird processed taste and made me sad. It also came with chips instead of fries booooooo. The calamari was decent thought… I might give it another chance.

Great gyro, but the hummus appetizer was runny. Nice happy hour specials give you half off some items. Gyro and fries under six bucks. Also offer some larger entrees and salads. Typical weak childrens offerings(grilled cheese, nuggets). Good seating options, including two tables outside on Sandusky. A few TV’s inside.
