Gated. Coded. Closed for renovations. Dead squirrels laying down around. Creepy. Yikes

In all fairness, it might be a grand place, but unfortunately it is under construction presently. I hope that the improvements reflect the needs that the other Unilocalers have commented on. I spoke to the Del Rey PD which has an office uphill from the park and they were the ones who relayed the news. Crossing my fingers that this park will be up and running soon! I will definitely return and check it out. :)

This dog park works in a pinch but there are too many problems to make it a stressful experience if you have energetic dogs. The biggest problem being the incredibly short fence at 3 feet and even shorter in the back next to the green space. There is one double gate but also one single gate which many people use. It is pretty small and there is no division for large and small dogs. Another problem is that there are«regulars» who go there and they act like high school bullys. Sadly they think they own the place and don’t accept new people/dogs. I’ve tried and tried but they are down right mean and talk loudly to one another about how they hate your dog. Going to a dog park should be fun but they leave me feeling miserable every time.

Fun local dog park with a good core group of people/dogs that are regulars. We bring our dog Hippo here quite a bit and he loves to play with the other dogs and chase balls. Not a huge park, but plenty big enough for your dog to run around and stretch his legs. The only cons are the occasional stupid dog owner. Guess what… if you throw a ball expect every dog to run after it! You can’t only throw a ball for YOUR dog. Dogs aren’t people, they don’t understand ball ownership!!!

We trust our dogs off leash for the most part, but being right off a busy street, it is a useless dog park without being totally fenced in. We live just up the road and were very excited when we found out about a park so close where the pups could run around, but only 3−½ sides are fenced in. Fence it in and this will be a great addition to Seaside.

Has potential to be a good dog park if a few details are ironed out. Bottom line is if a dog park has good bones to it it can always get better, and this is one of them. Pros: Dog waste bags provided, garbage can, big area to run, grass, fresh water, places to sit, plenty of shade, 1 set of double gates. Cons: 3 *single* gates(in addition to 1 proper double gate). 3 foot fence. One mixed dog section(not segregated). Gaps under most of the fencing. The Del Rey Oaks Dog Park is okay but could use some attention in certain areas which would not take much effort or money to have it be far better. This dog park has a proper double gate, but it also has three other single gates dogs could easily get out of(dog parks this size should only have one entrance). Other dog parks have simply locked extra gates. Dog park has 3 foot fences(most dog parks have 4 foot fences minimum) which is extremely low and not good for«jumpers». Has garbage, has fresh water in a device that fills the bowl as it gets low(has a float in it that regulates), has 1 picnic table, has 1 bench that is missing one piece of wood. Nice neighborhood not too far from Safeway on Canyon Del Rey, police station and city hall is just up the hill, smallish parking lot but parking available on the street, is next to a baseball diamond(per sign: please do not let your dog loose in the baseball field), nice people using the dog park, several dogs to play with when we were there on a sunny Saturday afternoon in June 2012. Minor things: there was a 5 gallon bucket«trash can» near the picnic table with poopy trash in it that dogs can easily get into. Humans at the regular park had a picnic and threw a bone in the road that my dog grabbed on the way back. There is a sign saying mountain lions can possibly be in the area but I am not worried since there is a lot of human activity all around this area. At minimum, I would want three single gates locked up(like other dog parks do) before visiting again. Surely the city has 3 padlocks all keyed alike to use. I can email them like I have done with other dog parks(with excellent success).
