Love the staff and the food here. The Reuben is one of the best all around coming from the East Coast. Probably one of the best places in San Diego if you’re wanting anything deli inspired. Also, the Crab Cake salad is incredible if you’re looking for lighter options.

We have enjoyed Milton’s since they opened. Their food is FANTASTIC and true to stellar deli style — portions are generous. The staff is really great and the friendly owners are on-site visiting with customers and making certain that their guests are super happy. We have also used Milton’s for catering parties. Our guests are so delighted when they realize they are going to get their Milton’s fix at our house. Go check them — we love our favorite breakfast Omelets, the classic Reuben, Soups and… the Black & White cookies!

Anyone want breakfast in beautiful Del Mar? If so, this is a great place to go! The restaurant has huge doors when you walk in, and a deli area at the entrance. They have delicious chicken and waffles, pancakes, and an awesome chocolate milk that should be on the dessert menu. Conveniently located by I-5 and the fairgrounds. Make your morning a tasty one, and try this place. You’ll be glad you did.

Milton’s satisfies! If you are jonesing for a deli fix, dis is it… huge portions, quality food and nice servers, especially in the deli/bakery side. My mish mosh soup had everything in it– matzo ball, kreplach, noodles in a delicious chicken broth. My pastrami sandwich was huge and came on soft and fresh rye bread. The pickles are to die for, the best pickles in the west! The bakery made me feel like I had entered the gates of sugary heaven. I was overwhelmed by cookies, pastry, cakes, macaroons and so mucho more. The lemon bars were beautiful! The whoopie pie brought tears to my eyes… I do believe that if you go to Milton’s, you should not have to eat for the rest of the week!

Had such a pleasant experience my fist visit here! Stopped in early on a Saturday morning to pick up a quick breakfast. I was immediatley greeted by the manager who stepped around the counter and handed me a menu. While waiting for my order, I noticed something on display called«halvah». When I inquired about it, the men behind the counter told me it is a dessert made out of sesame paste and insisted I try some! I really enjoyed speaking with the friendly staff and felt so welcome. At one point a local stopped in and the manager knew her order without her having to say a word. I ended up ordering an egg and bacon sandwich on a croissant. The sandwich was stuffed with fluffy eggs, salty and crispy bacon, all served on a giant buttery croissant! On my way out the manager stepped around the counter a second time to get the door for me. Such friendly and warm service! Will be back without a doubt!

Milton’s was really good! This deli/restaurant had delicious food with a great menu of selections. The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was very open and nice. Only thing that held back from a 5 was the small hiccup in our order, but this was delt with and the food was great none the less. Although, slightly on the more expensive side for a lunch sandwich, very tasty.

Place has really gone to the dogs recently. It’s been a long slow decline over a period of years. Ordered a tongue sandwich(Tuesday). As soon as the waiter put the sandwich down in front of me I could smell that the meat was off. The waiter took it away immediately without question. he knew the meat was past it’s sell by date. Amazing they would try and get away with it! Replacement pastrami sandwich was just about acceptable. Poor quality cuts of meat. No match for even average deli’s in NY and a lot worse than what LA has to offer. It’s a mystery to me why there isn’t a decent NY style deli in SD. Maybe it’s not so easy to recreate? D Z Aikins is just as bad. They can get away with low standards in San Diego. In NY they wouldn’t last a month.

Awesome deli and restaurant. Love the bakery too! Home style cooking, reasonable prices. Great service in the restaurant and the deli counter. Love their sandwiches and gluten free selections to take home. A Del Mar institution. Right off the 5 at Via de la Valle exit.

As always I consulted Unilocal when it was time to go for breakfast while we were in Del Mar, CA. Miltons was not our first stop. Sometimes Unilocalers lead folks astray and I could tell when I went to the first place we went to-that the reviews could not possibly be correct. As the fake trendy Coffee shop had a minimal breakfast menu. We walked in and we walked out. We are not Kool-Aid drinkers. So our next choice was Miltons. I was sure we would have a long wait on a Saturday morning, but the place is huge and we were seated within 10 minutes. We placed our order and were brought our complimentary Cinnamon Raisin Challah. O M G I adore bread, and this was simply amazing. I ordered an Omelette with cheese and tomatoes with hash browns and toast. There was plenty of food and I was sad that I left half, but I was full. It was a great omelette. We had excellent service and the prices were reasonable too. Afterwards we went over to the bakery and I had to get some of the Challah to take home. I got some cookies for my friend. The baked goods are fantastic. I sure wish Miltons was near me. It would definitely be my favorite place. So sorry we had not gone there for dinner the night before.

Unlike the east coast, delis with a Jewish flavor are not common in So CA. I live in OC and Katella Deli and Bakery is the place to go. Down in San Diego we discovered Milton’s Deli and Bakery. While we were ordering they served bread and fresh kosher pickles. The bread was good but not spectacular. The fresh kosher pickles were very good, better than my neighborhood Katella Deli. Nice crispy snap, and a good blend of spices that didn’t overpower the taste. I ordered an oversized corn beef sandwich on rye with onions and tomatoes. The corn beef was lean, firm and just right with the salt. When you bite into the corn beef it won’t fall apart or leave you with a salty taste. The sandwich is huge so you might wind up taking it home or order the half sandwich. Comes with cole slaw, and they do an excellent job. My wife had breakfast(you can order anytime). She had French toast, sausage and eggs sunny side up. They give you alot so be ready to get stuffed. The sausages are very good and so is the French toast. The coffee was fresh and full bodied. We had polite and excellent service. Next time I am going to check out their Rueben sandwich. Definitely will come back when I am in San Diego. Note: This is the same Milton’s that sells bread and crackers at COSCO stores and markets in Southern California. However this is the only deli in CA operated by Milton’s.

I will start off by noting that I had a Take-out order and I did not dine in. I called up to place my order and the person on the phone was extremely pleasant. I placed my order for pick-up without any hassle. When I arrived there about 15 minutes later, my food was ready, everyone was really happy and the service was quick and painless. We order the old-fashioned chicken soup and it was delicious with a side of bagel chips. I can’t complain, great service, great food. I will definitely go back to dine in next time!

I am a little afraid to write a review having seen the rude and vicious responses to some reviewers. Here goes: we have not been to this restaurant in many years due to a ho hum experience years ago. We will never go back. The waitress, Darla, seemed less than happy to be there and was just short of rude. We shared mish mash soup and the chicken in it was dry, not sure how when it is soaking in liquid. Our friend ordered blintz and said they were terrible. I ordered a sandwich the bread was good and fresh lots of meat so ok. My husband got stuffed cabbage and said it was just ok until it landed in his lap because of the butcher paper they put on the curved table causing it to look like it was square. So all and all it was not a good experience. DZ Akins is far superior. OK bring it on!

Looking for a Jewish style deli in San Diego is a feat. I know there are many Jews here, especially in Del Mar, but where? I found Miltons to be just like anything in NJ or NY and was very satisfied. Bringing in Acme Smoked Fish products from Brooklyn rather than the more local dealer in Los Angeles is very impressive.

I was impressed by Milton’s manager’s response to my disappointment after my last visit. Shortly after I posted my review, she reached out to apologize for my experience and offer a credit for my meal. I recognize restaurants have bad days and the courteous response I received is worthy of one more star on my review. I will give Milton’s a second chance. My one visit to Milton’s is still a disappointment. I had high hopes and unfortunately the service and food did not meet them. Both the host and my server seemed disinterested although the busboy/runner did his part to make up for it. I will avoid the classic deli sandwiches on any future visit and explore other parts of the extensive menu. The corned beef sandwich fell short. I am hopeful a future visit will be more in line with the reviews here on Unilocal

Uncle Milty’s! That’s what I call it, because it feels familiar and friendly. My hubby and I, with our 2 kids do a monthly trip down to San Diego from LA, and we love to eat here. To me it’s very authentic Jewish deli. I love the service here. My kids ordered from the kids menu, and Karla our waitress was so friendly and helpful. She even told us to not forget to have the boys stop by the bakery to grab themselves a cookie of their choice. It’s so hard to find good service these days, so it’s really refreshing. The food is really good. The portions are large. I love the fresh bread and pickles they bring you while you wait for your meal. Those pickles are the real deal, and the bread is freshly baked. It’s not cheap, but it is definitely worth the price. We will keep coming back to Uncle Milty’s.(^_^)

Pretty neat place with wide menu selection! If you’re an indecisive person, this place will be treacherous. Ordered: 1) Mish Mosh Soup 3⁄5 this was OK – if you’re looking for something healthy and home-made chicken soup, this is what you want to order. It was nothing special. 2) Asian Chicken: 2⁄5 eh, this was unmemorable. 3) Hummus with carrot and celery: 3⁄5 4) Sweet potato fries: 3.5÷5 Overall, the food here is OK, but I would come back to try breakfast and their pastries.

Milton’s, Milton’s, Milton’s… You definitely have the right amount of swag to pull a girl in… & the constant energy flying around, in and out your establishment, has always kept me so curious. What happiness can you deliver to my tummy? I have never dined in, but I’ve called in for pick up and I have to say, the food is pretty unfascinating … It’s good, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not really«all that amazing» versus the prices. I’m just not getting all the butterflies in my tummy I thought you’d give me… :-/ Now on a lighter note, your dessert display is awesome, and the pastries are good. BUT being able to order pick-up & arrive to find parking spaces available, reserved just for being an order & pick up kind of gal, pretty priceless. :)

How have I never been here before!!! I wish I knew about this place long ago. For some reason every time I drove past I thought it was some other kind of restaurant. Service: ok, nothing to brag about but on a saturday afternoon in the middle of lunch I can understand that things can sometimes be a little hectic Food: Amazing!!! Im a sucker for a true Ruben and this one hit the spot. I ended up splitting it with another person and we each had plenty to eat. The potato salad was perfect as well. Others: my one complaint is that the building has a weird set up that makes sound echo and seating a little strange. we were in kinda a semI circle table that left one person looking directly at the table next to us. Prices were a little high in my opinion for a Deli but the food definitly lives up to that.

Not bad, not good… kinda…WEIRD. It’s hard to put your finger on exactly what this place wants to ‘be’. The best way I can describe it is a cross-breed between a Jewish deli, a Greek family restaurant and a 50’s diner. The menu is varied. If you you’re looking to feed a big group of fineky eaters, you won’t have an issue here. There certainly is a wide array of foods to choose from; from light and healthy to totally artery clogging… STRANGEENCOUNTER: I noticed that almost every table around us were ordering these totally gynormous meat sandwiches with – get this – wine. It was a surprising combination. Something I’ve definitely never seen in this type of establishment…(It kind of made me think of Hugh Hefner eating his boiled egg in his silk robe. Not a pretty sight, but if that’s your ‘shtick…) The service was alright. It wasn’t crazy awesome, but, let’s face it. This IS a diner, so that’s to be expected, right? At least the bus boys were quick and on top of cleaning off the tables. My husband and I popped in here for a quick and cheap bite. After we sat down and ordered our drinks, we discovered that Milton’s is definitely not the place for ‘dat. The two of us SPLIT the shrimp salad(and added a chicken breast). We also had coffee and tea. Our bill was $ 30. OYVEY. MYTWOCENTS: I feel the prices are totally insane for a place as casual as this. ALMOSTFORGOT: The salad was a bit wilted, but the shrimp were big and beautiful(You only get four pieces, though) NOTCOOL: This is REALLY disturbing: I got a very insulting message from a ‘friend’ of the owner for being transparent about my personal thoughts about this establishment. So, when did America suddenly become North Korea? Who the heck are these people? The Deli mafia?! I’m being bullied for being HONEST. If the owner had anything to do with this harassing behavior, I find this EXTRA disturbing.(It’s also ironically UN-KOSHER.) Somebody give me the Soup Nazi. Anything’s better than this kind of treatment! To the ‘Friend’ that left the harassing message: «I’m sorry you’ve taken offense by my honesty. No one is entitled to a good review. It’s something that’s EARNED. Unilocal is respected because reviews are an honest reflection of a real experience. The minute bullies try and run the show by intimidating reviewers for being truthful is when this whole system gets corrupted.»
Looks like I’m going to minus a star for that move…
