Was the best sushi place in Del Mar– great food, amazing service, awesome ambiance. Super bummed out that it’s now closed.

Great place for sushi in del Mar, overlooking the torrey pines marsh. Friendly service and all day happy hour. Unfortunately this place looks like it closed down. Went on 10−17−14 and it was all closed up.

recommended by colleagues in the area. Everything was good. Only ate cooked sushi(my preference). Edammame was good, drinks, service and ambience fantastic. Arrived just before the rush and sat on the patio. Would definitely go back on a return trip to this area.

Now things have declined, we ate here tonight, it was clear the server must have been the owner or some really bad Asian woman who didn’t give a darn and added her tip to the bill without earning it. Water didn’t come unless asked. Table left full of empty plates. Good was mediocre. Checking in on Unilocal now only edamame, but you have to tell her before ordering that you did Unilocal checkin. This place has a nice view but really deteriorated in service and quality. My sushi was old and rice was hard. Avoid this place if Regina is your server.

I love the view from the deck, and that they have happy hour prices on some of the rolls. Although, they did up the prices about a dollar on that menu recently. This place makes good sushi, but sometimes the staff leaves you waiting for a while. On multiple occasions, I’ve thought that our waitress had forgotten about us.

Stopped by last night thinking I would revisit this sushi bar for HH. They do have a great HH menu. First time I’ve seen cold sake on the HH menu Both are house. More to choose from than most at pretty good prices. We have three specialty rolls, cold sake and a beer for around $ 35. Not too shabby. The HH rolls were smaller than the specialty rolls and our chef was not in a good mood, unfortunately which made for a less than fun experience. They are happy to make you what you want, are super accommodating, will give you ponzu and jalapenos without charge, even an extra handful of seaweed salad. WE sat right away and got drinks within a couple minutes. No complaints there. Not the greatest fish, the spicy tuna in one of our rolls was very mushy and I didn’t care for it at all. The salmon great, the sauces great, plenty of avo and no skimping there. All in all, I will go back here, it just won’t become my go to spot. I still prefer Gami Sushi down the street(no HH tho)…

Awesome restaurant. We usually will only go to a new place if it’s 4 stars and up but we thought we’d give it a shot since we were in the area. We ordered a spicy tuna roll and gyozas off of the happy hour menu which were really good. For the main course we had BBQ short ribs and Seafood yakisoba. Everything tasted very well and authentic. They definitely deserve a better ratting than they currently have so I decided to write this review in hopes to encourage more people to stop by!

The calamari is AMAZING! The back patio is so beautiful looking over Torrey Pines State Beach especially around sunset! The Beach Rolls are my favorite! I’ve lived in Del Mar my whole life and can not believe I had never stopped in here!

The place wasn’t terrible. I was impressed with the view but not so much on the food. The miso was terrible. Average on the shrimp crunchy roll, it was too mushy for my taste. And the teriyaki beef was okay. I was highly disappointed when my waitress took it upon herself to separate out a 30% tip when she brought my change back. I’ll be going back to Encinitas sushi lounge.

My experience today at Eda-Mami was quite delightful! The seaweed salad and edamame were as expected. I’d love to see this place spice things up a bit and try something fun without making it estranged from what people love. My roll of choice was the Ex-Girlfriend and I must say it is one of my favorite rolls of all time. Actually didn’t notice until more than halfway through — there’s no rice! Very easy to eat with all of the lovely raw fishes, crabmeat and soy paper. Really great. I’ll be dreaming about it when I get back home to Wisconsin! Haha Kirk was a very courteous server, as well.

I have checked in here 11 times, and eaten here many more than that. We had our rehearsal dinner here in the summer of 2013, it was perfect. They were able to give us the whole big patio with a great view and it didn’t cost us a dine extra! The happy hour everyday prices are perfect every day, and those items are great quality, especially for the value. Sometimes the service is a little unorganized, but usually it is good enough. I am wondering after being the duke for about a year when they will start to recognize me. Try it, I think who’ll love it.

I have no idea why this place isn’t rated higher. The location is beautiful, the service is fantastic and the sushi is really, really good. On top of all that, the prices are very reasonable. We ate there tonight and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Our server, Annie, went above and beyond. From what we observed the rest of the staff was great as well. We will definitely be back.

It’s rare that I would post a 1-star for anything. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I ever did. So, here’s my first 1-star, and here’s why: Last Saturday night, I was invited to a Sweet 16 party. Finding my own way to the private room where the party was being held should have been a red flag since not having a greeter at the front door of any place, be it a restaurant or a store, is usually not a good sign. Sure enough, that was the precursor to a night of sheer bedlam. From dirty dishes left all over the tables, to busboys and waitresses who were never to be found, my heart went out to the dad and mom of the Sweet 16. Lucky, for them, the kids were mainly focused on chatting amongst themselves. But a few of them did ask when the main food was arriving! I actually got up, in seeing the dismayed look on the faces of the girl’s parents, and started picking up dishes from the tables! And I almost fell over when the waitress, who finally showed up, asked me if I thought it was time to bring out the next course! Feeling upset for my friends, and thinking nothing worse could happen to them(and on such a joyous occasion, what a shame!), I could never have been more wrong. As the mom was paying the check, the head waitress – her name was Annie, and I know this because, earlier in the evening, when I asked her to take a plate from me, she actually gave me a look of sheer contempt. So, I took note of her name– began shouting at my friend, and actually called her the b word! It was horrific to hear, and watch. I would never go back to this restaurant. And I was actually thinking of suggesting this restaurant to my friend as she is just starting to look into places for her 40th. What a shame. With no manager in the restaurant, it’s hard to know who, ultimately, is to blame for such a disrespectful and lazy waitress crew. But they do say, when the cats away…

Happy hour prices all day are good but the rolls are pretty bland. I enjoyed the specialty rolls much more but the sushi quality is lacking. The house white wine is spectacularly bad. Enjoyed the free mochi with check-in!

This has become our best sushi spot. I do like the happy hour all day rolls, but what I really love is the yellowtail sashimi. Usually when I find a place with inexpensive rolls I just stick with that because I doubt the raw fish quality, but it’s so fresh & tender, with a slice of lemon to over it is exactly how I like it! It gets crowded at dinner, but we always find parking in the lot behind, which is a huge plus because it’s limited in Del Mar. Probably the biggest reason we return so often is our favorite sushi chef Ken. We never even ask for a table, just go straight to the sushi bar, he’s awesome. And, I love the mango mochi!

Came here for a fast lunch and was able to try out their all day happy hour menu. Location: the restaurant is cute and has a nice view. I was able to park no problem! Service: no complaints everyone was warm and the service was quick. Seaweed salad $ 3: larger portion than I expected. Standard. Spicy tuna roll $ 3: pretty standard. Great for the price and had a good amount of fish. Ninja roll $ 8: pretty good but a little too decadent for my taste. I would get this to share next time for sure. Overall this place is a good bet and the prices won’t kill you!

1. I had my wisdom teeth taken out. 2. I could barely chew. 3. I had to come here for a business lunch. 4. I ordered sashimi. 5. I had a stomachache. That’s pretty much it. I thought perhaps my stomachache could’ve been due to something else, but the rest of my co-workers had similar stomach woes. My sashimi did taste fresher than my co-worker’s nigiri, so I recommend skipping the rice b/c they will give you higher-grade fish for sashimi. The stars are for the great service and the nice view of the lagoon, & the proximity to my company. Their happy hour seems to have some good deals, but for now I’ll pass.

Yummy sushi, great view, and hospitable service! I have been coming here for a couple years now, and it’s a great local place to get sushi with family, friends, or even take a date. All of the rolls are spectacular, but I really like the Torrey Pines roll since its so fresh and full of veggies and fish. Any roll is good, and they often have summer specials and extra long happy hours if you look into it! I have come here a couple times for private parties. They have a balcony and a separate group dining room where it is perfect to host a gathering or party. The staff is always super accommodating and welcoming.

Sadly, the quality of Eda-Mami has been declining over the last couple of years. This afternoons visit was undoubtedly our LAST visit to what used to be one of our go to sushi spots that is close to home. They started advertising an «All Day Happy Hour” — which was the first sign that something was up. I’ve never heard of good qulity fish being served at happy hour prices all day. As soon as this special started, the quality of the fish went downhill fast. The salmon is extremely fatty, the ahi is not good quality and everything is thrown together in a sloppy way. This afternoon we looked closer at something dark in one of our sushi rolls and realized that the shrimp had not been deveined. GROSS! We pointed it out and the waiter apologized and said he would let the chef know. This is UNACCEPTABLE for a restaurant that serves shrimp in almost every dish they make. Be sure to check your shrimp before you eat it! Congrats Eda-Mami, you just lost loyal customers who have been frequenting your restaruant(although less often in the last couple of years) for the last seven years. We will definitely never go back!

Eda-Mami is our family’s go-to most frequently patronized local sushi place of the moment. The fish is good but not extraordinary, but we keep going back for the setting, the selection and especially the family friendly service. Eda-Mami has fantastic lagoon views from patios on both sides of the building’s south façade. While we’ve never sat on the patios, there are big windows in the dining rooms where light pours in from the outside. They have a little lot behind the restaurant but we usually park in front on Carmel Valley Road and climb the grand stairs up to the big wood door. Eda-Mami has a good selection of rolls, and their menu has lots of nice photos showing what to expect. I’ve made fun of other places for their photos, but this photo menu is really well done. On our last visit we ordered the Spider Roll, Yellowtail Fashion Roll, a selection of nigiri sushi and tempura for the kiddos. Easy, quick and delicious. We also love the free edamame with checking in on Unilocal. The owner and all the staff are also always really sweet to our kids. I don’t think that’s something you can fake. Nice people. Good sushi in a warm welcoming environment. Good place.

This is by far one of my favorite Sushi places to go. I’ve been there over and over again to the burn out point. Food is good, service can sometimes be very slow depending on the time of the day. I’ve always had good luck requesting outside seating(the view is gorgeous) and get one of those fire pits. They will work with you most of the time. Here’s a great tip… Always try to stick to the waiters who have been there for a while. The new ones will always give you headaches. No sure what this is about but happened twice and still didn’t shoo me away since the food and the price combo just makes it all worth it. If you’d like to make a special roll, they will gladly make it for you and not overcharge you like many other places do.

Not much in this particular part of town, so finding a top notch sushi restaurant was a big deal. As always, thanks to Unilocal for the great reviews that brought me here. We sat at the sushi bar which gave me a great view of the chef preparing our«edible art». The menu is quite large with a lot of rolls and sushi and sashimi, but I found it hard to choose. It was much easier to just get one each of the special rolls. Well worth it. I only managed to snap a picture of one, which was mix of salmon, tuna and a crab stick, rolled inside a cucumber. I have no idea how he manages to «shave» a cucumber like that — you have to see the picture. Amazing! Of course, with a Kirin and a Sapporo to drink. I’m not a sake fan, but for those who are, you’ll be happy as they have a good selection.

I came here during Happy Hour(5 – 7 every day; also known as dinner time) with my boyfriend, and we got a ton of food for $ 30(including 1 alcoholic beverage a piece). Everything was delicious, and the service was great! You really can’t be the price. Admittedly, I probably would not come here for regular price hour. Their menu is pretty typical of a trendy Asian fusion place, so nothing extremely special or «omg!» but I’m not that adventurous anyway. Also, I should mention that I’m allergic to shrimp, so my sushi menu is always very limited anyway. We got the spicy tuna roll, ninja roll(it was SO good), and whitefish roll, as well as calamari tempura for an appetizer. Actually, the calamari came out with the ninja, then the other 2 just minutes after we polished the first two off. They have a small patio that had I think 5 small tables for 2, and 4 larger circle tables. There were cute little fire things to keep you warm, and it overlooked the marshy-almost-ocean area in Southern Del Mar.
