The chicken is wonderfully marinated & succulent; the chorizo is swoon-worthy & the beef is very, very good. This is my go-to place for lunch & sometimes dinner. I take my friends for their birthday; my friends take me here for my birthday. I would give them 5 stars but a couple of the waiters wear enough cologne to spoil the odor of the food, which is wonderful!

For this place to advertise being«AUTHENTIC» it must not be aware of the definition. Nothing is authentic about it except for the décor. The chips & salsa are so disappointing. The salsa tastes like it’s straight from a Tostitos jar, not authentic ATALL. When I ordered my food which was tacos I was told that onions & cilantro would be extra… That was another disappointment. When my food came I tried the taco sauce that they have on the table that you can purchase from any Walmart before I put it on my food and it tasted like regular hot sauce. I asked the waiter if they had any other taco sauce that was more AUTHENTIC like any other Mexican restaurant would have and he told me that that would cost extra. I then told him that I didn’t understand why I would have to pay extra for authentic sauce when I was at a «AUTHENTIC» Mexican restaurant & I sent my food back. He then returned with the real taco sauce free of charge & I ate my food but it wasn’t as good as the other Mexican restaurants in the area. Also the restroom smells like feces. I will not be returning.

I have been here twice the first time was excellent no complaints!!! We went last night and we ordered 2 cheese dips that never came and when he brought us our food I asked him about the cheese dip, so we had our cheese dip after our food. And we had to ask for more chips after sitting with an empty basket for awhile. I have had the margaritas both times and they have been good. Our food was great both times but our waiter last night could have been paid a little bit more attention to us.

On a slow day this is a great place! On a busy day this place falls apart. Came in the night before Valentines Day for dinner with my girlfriend. The salsa was bad, the piña colada was bland, they gave me chicken instead of beef on my dish, my girlfriends plate should have come with torttias, my beer was warm, and the waitress needed to be told multiple times to get us anything. All around, the food was good but everything else wasn’t up to par.

Service is slow except for the chips lady. She was on it! Food is pretty ok but the chimichanga was tiny. Fun atmosphere.

I like this place very much. Fajitas are good as is the Taco Salad. Monday margaritas are wonderful. I have always had quick polite service. Enjoy the strolling guitars and singing! I would like to see a few new menu items… Perhaps a chicken mole? A la carte items like enchiladas(no rice or beans for us diabetics) with onion & cheese? I’ll be back!

I have almost always had excellent food and service and we like the atmosphere. We’ve been there about 20 times, and they’d get 5 stars but a couple of times the child haven’t been the freshest out the dish we’ve ordered before just doesn’t live up to their normal standards.

Make sure to visit this location on margarita Monday! A 12 oz. margarita is $ 2.99. I went for a date night with myself for a margarita and some queso… The cheese was a bit bland but it hit the spot nonetheless. The live music made for a great environment… I’m not sure if music is daily or just during specific times. I will definitely be back!

Best Mexican restaurant in Dekalb county. We come here once a month. Waiters are excellent and very polite.

We tried this over the weekend for the first time and we’re fans! The food was fabulous all the way around and we will be back. I had their flag enchiladas, which included one each cheese, chicken and beef enchiladas with a different sauce on each. Others in our group tried the tilapia tacos, one of the combo meals, and fajitas. Everyone at our table came away happy with the flavors and quality of the food. Service was subpar and is the only reason I knocked off a star. We went after NIU football Saturday night, so we weren’t too surprised that they were busy and that service was a little lacking. We waited so long to even have drink orders taken that we we would have walked out on any other day. We were expecting a certain amount of post-game craziness, so we waited it out and we’re glad we did. Our waiter appeared to have a lot of tables, but once he finally came to our table, then he was attentive the remainder of our visit. Prices were reasonable. I had a margarita and everyone else had sodas. We had four dinners and one dessert, and our total tab was around $ 60. We’ll be back!

Went during dinner time around 645pm * service was sub par, every time I needed a water refill I had to flag someone down but the server was constantly at the table asking if I wanted a second margarita lol *the food was ok typical Americanized Mexican sides beans and rice but my tacos were pretty authentic and had great flavor

I went to Los Rancheros quite a bit my freshman year(2011) and the steak tacos were to rave about. Went back that summer while apartment hunting and the steak had an awful liver taste to it. Went back a couple more times to continuously be disappointed. Will not return.

We came here when they first opened and… well…did not have the greatest experience. Since then, they have changed hands and what a difference. The food is exceptional and authentic. This is one of the few places you can get and actual fish taco, most places just chop up their battered fried fish but not here, seered talapia. Wait staff is very friendly and tends to remember you after a few visits, if not, they do a good job making you think they do. Food come out fast, at least it appears to. Maybe we didn’t notice because of the fresh chips and excellent salsa, which also is my only little«complaint’ is that they are not consistent with how much heat they add to it so check first before downing a big bite. Would highly recommend.

Decided to come to this place because every other place had a 1 hour+ wait, but I’m glad I did! I had the Mexican enchiladas which was the special for the night. It was delicious and the server Miguel was attentive and courteous. My meal was also under 10 dollars… without dessert of course, but the $ 4 fried ice cream was completely worth it. I’d recommend to anyone wanting some good Mexican food at a decent price.

Authentic Mexican food in De Kalb? This is it! My uncle had the Rancheros Enchiladas and I had the Vegetarian Fajitas. Both were delicious. Also the food came out really fasy.

do not order the nachos. It was a soggy mess of what looked like chicken, beef, chips and the thinnest cheese sauce ever. :(

Not authentic. Tasted worse than taco bell. Slow service. We were tempted to leave without paying bc the food was so bad and the service was so slow. I can honestly say it was the worst mexican food I’ve ever had.

This place is pretty popular in DeKalb. It has a reputation for great food and good service. I definitely appreciate the attentive service and warm ambiance. However, the food was average. The prices are okay. However, the rice and beans were a bit salty. There is nothing extraordinary about this place. Perhaps I went on an off night? I had the chicken tacos in a corn tortilla with rice and beans. The meal was not terrible however it did not live up to its reputation. While you wait for your food, the chips and salsa are regularly filled. They are delicious. Head on over and try it out. It was not a tragic meal.

Visited here around Christmas 2010, and was not very impressed. There are better restaurants in the area. The Chips were pretty ordinary, though the Salsa was ok(not great). The Guacamole appetizer was chunky with strong flavors(usually a good thing), but the onion was too strong, almost overpowering. I had the Shrimp Diabla, which I thought was OK, but kinda ordinary. When I wrapped the Corn tortillas around bites of shrimp, etc., they fell apart. The Flan was overcooked. We did not order the Soppapillas, as their description have them starting with tortillas and ending by adding ice cream.

I will preface this by saying if I go back, I probably will give another star. The waiter we had was awful. Our food came really quick, but when I needed a refill on water I think he literally just went in the toilet and scooped out some water. NOTHINGLIKELUKEWARMWATER to cool down the spice from a spicy jalapeño. I got a new steak dish and a pork tamale, and I enjoyed both very much. The service was awful, and I will go next Cinco De Mayo and let you know how it goes!
