It’s definitely an old school choice for dinner. The food is great, portions are generous, and the staff is super friendly. The owner’s wife served us and she couldn’t have been nicer. And the pulled pork sandwich was amazing.

I love this place and I love Unilocal! This is my 3rd review and another solid neighborhood institution. Midway has not changed in years! I don’t think the prices have changed in that time either! Food and service were both fantastic!

Stopped by here tonight for some dinner and drinks with my husband. Was greeted by the owners wife(I belive) and got seated right away. The huge bar was packed, and the crowd was a bit older. We didn’t mind that at all. We could still hear each other and have some good conversations. We ordered a seasonal beer and a white sangria before ordering our food. The beer and sangria came out quick and cold. I ordered a cup of corn chowder and the beef brisket(new to the menu) and my husband got the meatloaf. The portions here are HUGE and everything is amazing comfort food. We left here full of delicious food, some good drinks, and feeling very welcomed. We will definitely be back!

Recently discovered this place and have now it has become a regular go to restaurant for us. Great London Broil, steaks and seafood. The angus meatloaf is excellent and some of the best mashed potatoes are here. Very comfortable atmosphere and most importantly the wait staff is friendly and do a great job.

Midway is a very interesting restaurant. The food is cheap, the drinks are strong, and the clientele are very friendly/animated. The customers definitely trend a little bit older, but that really speaks to how long Midway has been popular in the area more than anything else. Overall, definitely worth checking out, as long as you’re not married to the idea of going to a popular spot full of 20-somethings. Out of everything I’ve tried there, the Pot Roast definitely stands out. As for the drinks, they’re delicious and very generous but you may want to plan on a DD or an Über. Midway pulls no punches.

I’m from the Midwest, so any place here in New England that reminds me of the comfort, hospitality, and authenticity that my home region provides, I’m on board. The Midway is the perfect blend of all those things. My husband and I live down the street but it has taken us about two years to try the Midway but we are so happy we finally did. The atmosphere is comfy and old fashioned in the best way, the clientele and servers are the salt of the earth, and the food is cheap and delicious. The manager even came over to our table right away to welcome us, a very nice gesture. We are looking forward to sitting at the bar for our next visit. We will be back again and again.

There are a lot of restaurants/bars that try to play off the«dive bar» atmosphere. Midway Restaurant is just plain divey. This is not a bad thing if you’re not looking for a fine dining establishment, which my friends and I were not. We were looking for some good trivia so we headed into Dedham. There were five people in our party total and it was not easy to seat us. The entire restaurant is one narrow but long rectangle with a huge bar smack-dab in the middle. There are many tables lining the walls, but space is left to be desired between them and the seats at the bar. Because we had 1 extra person(each table seats 4 aside from a couple of corner booths which were already occupied), we were stuck in the farthest corner near the kitchen so that we did not obstruct the walking aisle more than we needed to. However, this also meant that we were the farthest away from the trivia emcee leaving us at a disadvantage. After two questions, the staff realized this and turned on a speaker over our heads which made our lives much easier. Our waitress was phenomenal. She was charismatic, personable, funny, and just a pleasure to have around. The food was halfway decent too and at a great price! This place could use some serious remodeling to accommodate such an event as trivia where groups are going to come to play. The entire place was also a little dingy, but we enjoyed ourselves.

Tried this resturant after hearing positive reviews on the food. The menu is large with a variety of selections and the prices are cheap. I had a salad with steak tips. I found the steak tips tough and dry. The salad was wilted. My friend did not care for his dinner. I guess we got what we paid for but did not enjoy it and wont be back

I really am surprised with the good food great improvement in service and food quality. I, recommend the NY addition they have made some improvements to the place. I would give the Midway another try. Five years ago would of not recommend this place the food and service was very poor. Great Improvement keep up the good work!

Been coming for here for several years. Moved away for a bit, but I’m back! We go at least once a week/2 weeks. It’s not fine dining, but good food and drinks for the price. It’s an older crowd, but sometimes that’s ok. Bartenders and waitstaff always friendly. Gotta try the steak tips! I brought a friend there, and she can’t wait to go back. :)

I’m proud to be regular customer and enjoy the experience of camaraderie for certain. However, what brings me back several times throughout the week is my appreciation of the Midway’s pedigree. The family has maintained the American diner culture of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, serving very good meals, generous portions at reasonable prices. The comfort food is exceptional and I reference the meatloaf, pot roast, rump steak, and puddings as just an example of why the Midway has it’s own special appeal. Call me a hopeless romantic, but I really enjoy the tender love and care that the owners and wait staff alike sow it’s customers. I give the Midway 5 stars.

I went to the Midway for the first time a few weeks ago and was surprised to find that behind that nearly windowless exterior(and the large cow) there’s a lot going on. On a Friday night the place is jammed by 6 o’clock. The vibe is friendly, noisy, happy. The food, I was less enthusiastic about but perhaps we ordered too adventurously. The Baked Stuffed Shrimp was basically shrimp covered with a lot of bread crumbs with melted butter on the side. Forget veggies — what they have is an afterthought and bad. The cole slaw was not awful but didn’t look very appetizing(looks matter). My husband said that his prime rib was good but I have my doubts — it looked used. I think that he just loved the giant scotches they were pouring. The bartender was friendly and super-efficient. I’ll go back. I’ll try the burger.

Friendly staff, good prices, good selection, and decent local food. It isn’t Gourmet dining, but it is better than the cookie cutter, microwave prepared food you would get at any of the chain places located all along RT1 in Dedham. Support places like this. We need local businesses, and not more places like Chili’s and TGIFs.

I come here a lot because it is close to my home and the food is great. On the inside this place looks like it came out of the 1970’s, nothing to write home about but if you like the old school atmosphere this place is for you. Prices are reasonably cheap and the service is attentive. Try the pot roast or the wings or any of the soups, they are all homemade. This place has been around for about 60 years, so if you want a Boston classic with good homemade food give it a shot!

Took what turned out to be bad advice and gave this place a try. YUCK! If you’re looking for a local«old school» place, drive a bit further down Washington Street to the Pleasant Café in Rosi.

This place is a bar with a restaurant built around it. When I got there, a fella was trying to share a piece of his birthday cake with a couple sitting at the bar. I think that describes this place pretty well! =) We were seated at a table at the other end from the doorway — «Please Wait to be Seated» afterall! A pleasant waitress. We were each served a plate containing a single room temperature roll and two butters. The bathroom was clean enough, but a little small(the non-handicap stall especially). The cup of seafood chowder was just chock full of the good stuff swimming in a rather thin milky broth. For appetizers we had a nice plateful of sweet potato fries — not that crispy but yummy sweet, but that’s sweet potato for you! Entrees came with a choice of two sides(potato, salad, cole slaw, rice, veggie). I requested the salad and french fries with my fried oysters. The salad was a large bowlful of iceberg, carrot shreds, onions, sliced previously frozen cucumber, a single cherry tomato and hot pepper. The portion was fine, but my lettuce was a little colored at the edges… my friend’s salad looked fresh though. My friend’s baked scallops was a baking dish full of rather large tender scallops coated with crumbs. My oysters were plump and the fries crispy. The only black mark of my entrée was the dried piece of lemon served alongside it. Dessert was a yummy moist slice of chocolate cake garnished with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. The topping was so creamy, it made me think of chocolate pudding. A great end to a nice meal!
