Some places just feel like a neighborhood. The New Mercury is one of those spots. Very friendly, everyone seems to know everyone else, regulars abound. The food is very solid, cheap too. We merely got breakfasts that featured eggs, hash browns, choice of meat and toast. Everything on our plates was cooked to order and exactly as we wanted. My over easies and crispy bacon were as happy as my husband’s scrambled with cheese and ham. They brought hot sauce and sour cream before the breakfast arrival so we could eat everything right away when it came out. Little things like that are much appreciated by me. The coffee was good and they kept that, my water glass and my husband’s pop filled up. No rushing you but they are pretty speedy about everything themselves, we were in and out. We will be back to explore further.

I’m giving New Mercury four stars rather than five only because I’ll shortly be writing a review for a competing — and superior — diner less than a mile down the road. Breakfast was amazing. Hot, fresh ingredients, cozy diner atmosphere, great prices, super-friendly service… just about everything you could ask for. Good coffee too, for a diner. My only real gripe(which is far from uncommon) is that the place is cash only. Now, I’m a man who carries cash so infrequently you’d think I was allergic to it, so you can imagine my dismay. I just find it terribly inconvenient to drive a few miles out of my way to find an ATM so that I can visit a coney a couple blocks down the road.

Jacob and I rolled out of bed on a Saturday morning with a mad craving for breakfast. Since we recently moved to Dearborn, we’ve been on a quest to try as many new restaurants as we can. We eat at home 4 – 5 nights out of the week and indulge in lunch and dinner on weekends. Upon entering, we were welcomed by a friendly waitress. I decided on breakfast and ordered 2 eggs with hash browns(well done), bacon and toast. Jacob decided to be a copycat and ordered exactly what I did. Our breakfast came out in a timely manner. The first thing I noticed were the hash browns… the deliciously well-done hash browns.(One major restaurant pet peeve of mine is when I order fries or hash browns well done and they come out mushy and… potatoey… gross!) These hash browns were burnt and delicious, just the way I ordered them. The rest of the breakfast was good, too. It seemed like we got more than 2 eggs, which is always a bonus. The bacon came out hot, which is rare for a coney. Usually, coneys serve luke-warm bacon and it’s really disappointing to me. Not at The New Mercury… delicious bacon to be had by everyone! The service was great. Our waters were filled promptly and the waitress made sure Jacob’s coffee never got too low. When we left, we told the waitress how happy we were to find a good breakfast spot, and she seemed genuinely excited that we enjoyed our meals so much. That made me happy. Gotta love good customer service. Jacob and I will definitely come back… with a good [cheap] breakfast and a friendly waitstaff, why not? **The New Mercury restaurant is CASHONLY!**

Great news for the people that used to love the Mercury Diner in Dearborn on Michigan Ave(the one that got torn down)! I went in hoping that this was the same owners. I immediately recognized one of the original waitresses and the cook. They even brought some of the stuff from the original diner into the new one. Fantastic breakfast special. Thick sliced bacon, great coffee, great service and my friend got the ham with her breakfast and it’s Dearborn Brand Ham, very moist and delicious. A lot of the same specials from the old place on the board. Bring cash,; to keep prices down, they don’t take credit cards at this point. Yipee! love«The Merc»

Very good little Diner, with a good breakfast. Great home fries, and breakfast meats. Coffee is always good and they keep your cup filled to the top.
