Oakwood Commons

We truly have had a very positive experience here. All the staff I’ve met were very pleasant and caring and my Dad seems to be doing so much better. The only complaint he has is the food but I’m not sure if his medication may also be to blame for a change in his taste buds.
The doctors are on the ball and Travis was very kind and helpful and is definitely being a true advocate for my Dad. I would highly recommend Oakwood Commons.

Beautiful setting and there are a few medical staff which truly redeem this facility. SHEILA is a gem. The dietician/​nutritionist and case manager Travis are truly negligent with their responsibilities. When we held a meeting about my dad’s health care the dietician/​nutritionist was either bored out of her mind or hung over. Either way she seemed completely disinterested and unconcerned that my father’s diet was unrestricted for over 3 weeks causing weight gain and severe water retention. Her responsibility, yet it went uncorrected for over three weeks. Travis was equally disinterested except when he basically blamed my father for the lack of effort to recover. He pointed blame and took no responsibility for lack of follow through of our health care requests.
Basically you have to be your loved ones advocate and keep on the staff and Doctors otherwise your loved one is over looked. Especially if they are the quiet type or are not capable of communicating their needs.
My dad, a heart patient had his dietary needs over looked for over 3 weeks. HOW this can happen is beyond me. Diabetic socks (tens) we requested from day one and took more than 6 weeks to get. Psych was requested due to severe untreated depression and this was ignored for weeks and then he had one appointment in the two months he was in the facility. Podiatrist was requested upon admission and then repeatedly requested. He never showed up.
It is my fault for being inexperienced and too trusting in health care professionals. I have learned you need to be a very strong, vocal and persistent advocate to receive the proper care in some facilities. This is one of them.
However, the grounds are lovely.
PS — Had I not been rushed into choosing a facility I would have checked the reviews and ratings on this facilty on the .gov site. Then I would have gone somewhere else.
