If you’re in the area, you must stop by and visit. The Living Nativity has been a tradition at Mahn’s Funeral Home in DeSoto for as long as I can remember, and it is my family’s Christmas tradition every year to visit this quaint little nativity. The manger scene is staged with life size bible figures including Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the Wise Men, camels, and the Angel. However the best part are the live animals. They are *usually* people friendly and photogenic; occasionally you get a jackass — literally. :) If you can and remember to, please sign the guest book and leave an optional donation, which helps offset costs. The visit will warm your heart and give you all the wonderful Christmas feels.

Mahn Funeral Home puts on a living nativity scene every Christmas. I don’t know the exact dates, but you should call to check; I know the animals are there the week before Christmas. I don’t particularly enjoy visiting De Soto, but I have really liked seeing the living nativity the past couple of years we’ve visited town. It isn’t sappy or overly religious — regardless of my beliefs, I hate it when religion is shoved down people’s throats. This is simply a sweet rendition of the nativity with cut out figures of Mary & Joseph, a manger, some wise men, large camel cut outs, and … charming live animals! This last year, there were sheep, a cow, a donkey, and playful baby goats. It was a great excuse to get out of the house for some fresh air, and I know the kids really love it. If you have to visit family here in December, you should see if this is set up.
