This place is decent for De Soto, and might be one of the nicer places you can sit down and have a meal; if it were in a larger town, I’d only give it two stars because I don’t particularly want to go back. Overall the atmosphere was more charming than I expected. There was live music playing, and the guy had a nice voice and played a variety of songs. It smelled a little like smoke(ugh), though you didn’t really notice once you’ve been in there a couple minutes. The restaurant attached to the Jefferson Square Inn, which has a handful of rooms; we actually asked to look at one, and the one shown to us seemed nice. The lady said their clientele that particular week was mostly comprised of road crews who were passing through for construction work. The service was very friendly, but not particularly good. Our water and tea wasn’t always filled — and sat empty for quite a while before we flagged our waitress down. That’s a pretty basic thing, and when we were in, there were only one or two other tables filled; it shouldn’t have taken ten minutes to check on us. The food was so-so. My roast beef au jus was fine, nothing to write home about and a little overpriced; my husband’s philly sandwich was as bland as could be. I think we might have just ordered the wrong things, because my in-laws’ pasta dishes looked pretty tasty.
