Tropical Gourmet Jamaican Restaurant

The food is alright nothing spectacular, it is cheap. The people who work at the cash register are very rude I wouldn’t go back because of this reason they always seem to have an attitude like they don’t want to be there. Not friendly at all.

Small hole in wall place… service not too excellent, but they get you your food… the food, however, was delicious… had the oxtail with rice and peas… notable, they were out of plantains and cabbage because, according to the waiter, ‘I’m the only one here today’ …will definitely try again

Food was bland, service was lousy. Food wasn’t fresh. pretty much misleading from the reviews if your use to good Jamaican food. Big let down. Won’t be back.

Atmosphere: Jamaican music greeting you when you walk in. Plenty of seating!
Service: Took about a min or so until someone from the back came out to greet me and asked what I wanted, but that’s fine. I wasn’t in any rush. The guy was friendly and recommended the jerk chicken over the goat curry (I thought he would’ve recommended the goat curry as it was double the price, lol)
Food: I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and beans lunch special for $ 5.50. It came in a small foam container, but it was actually a lot of food. The chicken was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection! The taste was great! The rice and beans were okay; definitely needed the jerk chicken sauce. I also ordered a small chicken soup, and that was okay. It was a bit plain so a little more salt would’ve been great. Plenty of veggies and tender chicken!
Overall: I’d come back to try something else! I’d actually rate this place for 3.5 The service and food were quick as I was in and out in a matter of minutes but I decided to dine there instead ;p

This is one of my favorite places to come eat. I always call ahead so I don’t know if they have slow service, but very flavorful food. I suggest the jerk chicken with white rice and plantains. Make sure you get one of their drinks!

I still think about those oxtails even though I moved many, many, many years ago. I went recently after almost 10 years and let me tell you it was as good as I remember. It’s your typical hole-​in-​the-​wall spot, but the food is good (well the oxtail dinner is all I know). Two thumbs up, whenever I am in town I’ll be there.

Had the curry goat and jerk chicken. Both were super delicious. The lady who helped us was also very nice. Price was cheap for the amount of food we got.

The food was excellent. We had the oxtails and curry chicken with rice and peas with cabbage. I’m just visiting, but I will definitely be back when I come back to visit.

Wow, tasty and fair prices. I would have preferred my dishes to be slightly spicier but it was still tasty and would please the general public. The jerk-​chicken could have used more sauce but was juicy. The rice with beans was spectacular as the curry goat.

GREAT FOOD! We ordered the Jerk Chicken, Beef Patties, Rice and Peas, Curry Chicken, Ting, and a Chubby… Garfield was Friendly, Service was just like home… ;) if I lived here, I’d be here weekly.

Went to this establishment for dinner and got the Jerk Chicken.
The chicken was cooked really well, it was very tender and I enjoyed eating it, but I expected it to be spicy. Maybe the jerk seasoning they use isn’t spicy, but every jerk chicken I’ve ever had was spicy and that was a disappointment for me.
I had the chicken with white rice which was also decent.
Fried plantain, for one of my sides, was very good.
The cabbage, for my other side, was also good.
All in all the meal was pretty average, though I would probably go back. The prices were decent and the staff was very friendly.
Forgot to mention that they messed up my wife’s side order so double check with the employee before finishing your order.

The jerk chicken and curry goat was bomb. It was flavorful and fairly priced. I’d advise against getting the dumplings because it was dry and kinda stale and go with the plantains instead. Keep in mind the salad is basically a cheap mix of lettuce from any local grocery store. I was really hoping it would be some exotic blend of vegetables with a Jamaican twist. Not too much seating is available, but it was rather empty on the day we showed up. I did like the wall art and assortment of snacks and beverages.

I’m pissed I spent $ 28 for awful oxtail which were not seasoned and jerk chicken had no spice. They slow as hell too!!!

Ordered curry goat, jerk chicken, and brown stew chicken. All of which was very tasty.

I wasn’t sure about this place at first. I tried the foods and it was amazing. We ordered the curry chicken and brown stew chicken express plate. Corn bread and Mac n Cheese must have it! I will definitely go back again if I’m in the town.

First of all, I have to say that anyone complaining about slow service must have been either very impatient, or having a bad day there.
I went today for lunch, and only waited a few minutes for my to-​go order of curry chicken and corn bread. So, the corn bread was nothing but plain, I think I make better corn bread, I only tried it because the reviews kept mentioning it, but it’s nothing special. The chicken was ok, but nothing out of this world either.
I’m giving this 3 stars because it was edible, cheap, and fast, but I doubt I’ll be going back.

The food is good but the service is slow. I find myself saying this often in Daytona. But when I order ahead and they tell me 10 minutes, I expect my order to be ready or almost ready when I arrive. This is my econd time here and both times it is the same type of slow service. It is not some place I will continue to frequent because of the poor service. It doesn’t make sense when the place is practically empty and my food still takes over 20 minutes or longer. Not when I called ahead and placed my order.

Best curry chicken I have ever had! The Jerk chicken my husband had was also delicious!

Went on a Tuesday morning right after it had opened.
Was greeted by Dancehall music and a very nice cashier.
At that time in the morning only the Chicken Curry and one other dish was available for purchase.
There was also a batch of freshly made patties that were available for sale.
I took my stash of chicken curry and two patties to take care of a few errands and felt solid for many hours.
I can’t wait to go back for the oxtails
This isn’t a very high end fancy type of restaurant but it has great prices and makes me want to visit Jamaica.
