I needed to pick up a handful of small items to fulfil a tasty salad recipe that the wife had discovered in one of her cooking magazine. The closest grocery store to us, Bellevue’s Kroger is currently closed — undergoing what looks like a major renovation — and the Kroger Marketplace in Newport(up on what I refer to as the ‘folly on the hill’) is always such a horrible dispiriting experience I really didn’t want to have to shop there. I remembered Riverside just as I was leaving the house and decided to try it out for the first time. The upside is its a compact full fayre supermarket carrying just about anything you might need. The downside is it looks horribly dated, quite shabby and some of its prices seem to be invented by Mr Optimistic in the«wildest dreams» department. I don’t mind paying a little over the top for ‘convenience’, but tins of vegetables that are DOUBLE what I am accustomed to paying will always surprise me, likewise garlic priced at almost 4 times its more regular cost. I think it was the general shabbiness that put me off the most though, something that would certainly make me wary of buying anything from the fresh meats or deli counter. A few of the shelves I browsed carried a substantial layer of dirt & grime and the checkout counter was a miasma of greasy spots, streaks and dried fluids. It can’t help but make you wonder. The staff, by utter comparison, were very friendly indeed — certainly a cut above any Kroger drones — so there’s one plus there to balance a negative. I’m loathe to write the place off — after all, its nice shelter in the storm whilst the nearer Kroger stays closed — but I can’t help feeling the space would benefit from a major overhaul of its cleanliness and pricing protocols.

This grocery is fully stocked but sometimes a little expensive. It gets high marks for beinng close to all the shops on fairfield ave and makes living in bellevue very walker friendly but if I am doing any serious shopping I go to the kroger marketplace in newport

If you can get past the smell(of rotten grease?) you are NOT doing your self any favors shopping here. Most of the food is expired. There is NO whole bean coffee to be had in the entire place. Folger’s is the best on the shelf. My neighbors swear by their donuts, but based on the horrendous stench emitted from this place I’m too disgusted to consider eating anything from there. The place is dirty and every time I have attempted to enter the front door I am overwhelmed by the smokers hanging out by the door. This place is dead to me. I have been trying to do most of my shopping at the local Bellevue Farmer’s Market Saturday morning and Wednesday evenings at Party Source.

Small grocery store catering to food stamp and low income clientele. A lot of their inventory is close to expiration and«sell by» dates. It is not unusual to find expired items still on shelves and in coolers. Customer service and cleanliness is an issue and requires improvement. Overall a place to pick up a few odds and ends but not a place to do your weekly shopping.

Riverside Market is a small, but fully-stocked, grocery store convenient to both the Bellevue and Dayton communities. In addition to all grocery items, it features a deli and bakery area, plus produce and meat sections. You can find beef, pork and chicken, but no fresh fish; all seafood is frozen. They also have cool mini-carts for light shopping trips!
