I lived at Dayton Park Apartments for 3 years. I’m about o finish out my final lease. Over the last 3 years, I’ve ran into quite a few scandalous times. Betty, the former manager for the first 2 years I was there was an older lady that was always smoking outside by the pool or coughing from all the smoke. She was a racist person. I saw first hand the way she treated families that were not white or had friends that were not white. My neighbor received several notices threatening eviction for stuff Betty couldn’t legally evict anyone for. She entered their apartment without permission while they were away and said they were being evicted for having dirty laundry in their bathroom. I’m not kidding! I saw the notice myself. My best friend, her mother and father lived there also. They were treated very poorly after they moved in. They were threatened with eviction notices within the first month of their move in. They had satellite installed outside without doing any damage to the exterior or interior walls. However, the apartments forgot to have them sign the agreement for installing satellite dishes without written permission from the office and a deposit of a whopping $ 300. I ran into several maintenance issues. They can never hold down a lead maintenance worker for more than a few months. I had problems last weeks, even months before getting fixed. I transferred from a 3 bedroom into a 4 bedroom during my 3rd year. The apartment was filthy when we moved in. I was forced to clean it myself since the maid decided to not show up after Betty was fired and replaced by her assistant, Jeneane. Jeneane has been trying to clean up Betty’s mess but still is lacking the ability to keep good maintenance staffed. We had a leaking toilet that ended up costing us $ 160 for one month. The leak was a very simple and inexpesive fix. We fixed it ourselves for less than $ 3 and took just 2 minutes. Why did it take 6 weeks to finally have to do it ourselves? I called once a week and got the same olé story. Then we found out about a leak in our front yard that was cutting into our water supply and costing us big money. Jeneane has agreed to take off $ 50 from our rent but still not enough to replace the water we’re still stuck paying for. To get that $ 50 taken off the rent took a phone call to Hettig Management. I left a voice-mail message with Jeneane’s supervisor and I got a phone call back a few hours later from the office to inform me of their decision to reduce my rent for the following month for the inconvenience. If you’re planning to rent from Dayton Park, then plan to do all the repairs and fix-it yourself. Parking is not adequate, the two swimming pools do not get cleaned like they should and are often dark green and not open. They finally repaired the park and added new swings but didn’t clean out the sand around them, so there is trash still cluttered inside the sand. Dogs are allowed to roam freely and poop in peoples yards and graze through the over filled trash dumpsters. Dayton Park is subsidized living so you can’t make over a certain amount money yet they expect you to make at least 3x rent each month. Our rent was 725/month for a 4 bedroom so that is a requirement minimum 2125/month income but can’t be over 8 people living in the apartment and not make over 3200/month income. However, they’re the only apartments in the Dayton area with 4 bedrooms.
