Under the Hemlock Campground and Cabins

After speaking with two of the very nice people here,(on two different calls the same day) our family packed for a two night stay at Hemlock. We had almost everything we needed… We told the owners we planned to arrive by dinner time. We passed the place the first time because the 3 GIANT crosses affixed to the pinnacle of the roof and VERY large religious banners visible from the road made us think it was a church or something. The crosses seem 12 feet tall or more in my memory… Unfortunately the religious iconography was vomited everywhere you turned on premise. I am an ordained minister, and it made me uncomfortable, bordering on CRAZY. We arrived at 7:08 Pm and the gate was closed. Cell service was not available, and the intercom on the wall got no response. We drove to a state facility a few miles away, and used the phone there to call Hemlock. No answer. We kept trying to call, and also used the wifi signal to seek other pet friendly lodging. We finally reached them by phone at 8:10 or so… and after a drive back to their property and then visiting their première cabin, we had to leave. There was seemingly an acre of poison ivy surrounding the cabin, and the outdoor picnic table was literally in the middle of what appeared to another patch of the same. With a dog, and a family that can catch poison ivy by seemingly looking at it, it was a high risk venture to start. We had brought everything needed but linens/​pillows. The gentleman on site did not offer any solutions. It was too late and unreasonable to drive back to civilization and buy linens just to stay here. The owners need to do a much better job communicating with potential guests. Our family then made a sad drive back to our house several hours away.

I loved this place. It was really close to the park where going back in forth was mad simple. The owner was beyond nice and a clever guy. He must be talented as can be since he built the cabins and all, plus does carvings with a chain saw which adds wonderful character to the place. Bathrooms were clean as was the cabin. It was simple with a fridge, microwave, table, and bed that I can remember. I just used a sleeping bag, and the mattress was totally fine. Just a perfect place to get away and have a good time. I highly recommend it and already can’t wait to get back. Also, we didn’t have to cut, haul, or purchase any wood!

We came for a quiet weekend in the mountains, and got exactly what we came for. Absolutely beautiful location! Close by waterfalls, hiking, horseback riding, cute towns, farms, etc. The owner offered more than we could have asked for in terms of friendliness, things we needed/​forgot, and GREAT rates. This place is totally worth coming back to again and again. I miss it already!!!
