Super 8 Dawsonville

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My husband checked in, and immediately the front desk clerk made a photocopy of my husband’s driver’s license without his permission. When my husband asked why he needed a photocopy of the driver’s license, and stated that this could very easily lead to identity theft issues, the front desk clerk said nothing, but quickly handed the ID back to him.
We then entered the hotel from a side door, and over the buzzing light & trash in the potted plants by the door, the smell caught both of our attention. The smell was a combination of musty, smoke, dog, pool chemicals, and a meager hint of cleaning supplies. The hall was dimly lit, and the sounds of drunken laughter from people in their closed off rooms could be easily heard from a few room lengths away in the hallway.
We entered the room, and I found soap scum in the shower and a dead insect on the counter. The bed was covered in a very old & tattered bedspread, and the sofa cushions were completely flat. Everything was very rundown looking, and the odd smell just permeated the entire room.
We immediately went to the front desk to voice our disappointment, and let them know that we needed a refund, as we would not be staying there. Thankfully, my husband is a Hotwire VIP member, and the refund was easily obtained.
Would I go back? No. Would I recommend to a friend or family member? No.

Keep Driving. My family and I left this place after paying and drove to another hotel. It was filthy (the common areas and especially the room). I am not picky, a hotel can be out dated, offer no extras, etc. but it must be clean. This place was so disgusting that I told my kids not take take off their socks. The linens appeared to be the only thing in our room that were clean. I used a damp towel to wipe the bathroom counter, tub, walls, toilet, furniture, etc. and on all I found filth. I don’t know if this location changed hands since the last reviewer or what but YOU DO NOT WANT TO STAY HERE.

One of the better super 8’s I have stayed at. Good breakfast and clean place.
