Just taking a minute to update this review again. I took the car to my service mechanic for him to check things out. He found that the drain plug had been overtightened and had stripped the oil pan. When he went in to repair that damage, he found that the drain plug itself was in two pieces. This implies with even greater certainty that the plug was overtightened. The plug itself is steel. The oil pan is aluminum. The reason the plug was in two pieces is that it is hollow about a quarter inch past the head of the bolt. It had been tightened to the point that it had elongated the drain plug itself, causing it to stress and crack in half. It isn’t like the bolt is made of cheap material or in a poor design, this took effort beyond incompetence. It had then been repeatedly turned after it had been broken, causing the first few turns of threads in the oil pan to be almost completely removed. Had it fallen out, which is could have easily done, the oil would have drained out through the hollow end of the bolt. Like dad said… a car will run without gas, but not without oil. :) I believe the condition of the drain plug is a compelling testament to the fact that the damage was done by Express Lube. The repair was only $ 230(plus the extra oil filter — and my time) so I doubt any lawyer would want to be involved with it. That said, you really should consider either performing your own oil changes or using an oil change center with a higher aptitude for performing the job.
