I’ve frequented the«Springy» as we have called it for years, and have had many different items from their menu. In my opinion, their burger and fries are better than anyplace I’ve ever had. They’ve added new menu items over the last year or so that include a French Dip sandwich, open faced homemade turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, Italian sub– all of which were really great. Some of their old staples I’ve had include the Slim Jim and Nacho with both of them being really good as well. We’ve ordered many times the cheese balls and fried mushrooms but the burger and fries are our staple when we’re feeling like a good burger. We’ve been there mostly at dinner time or later and have always had good service with friendly staff. Based on the reviews I just read on here, it sounds like the day staff may not be as great as the night staff. You can’t beat the prices for the food and drinks. I would classify it as a small, hole in the wall type of bar. It falls short in ambiance, but my 5 star rating is based on the fact that you can get dinner and drinks for reasonable prices, friendly service, and the food has always been good, especially the burger and fries. Worth a stop.

There are two bartenders, Karen and Pam, that we continue to get great service from. Due to the friendliness and integrity that these two ladies offer time and time again each visit, they make us want to go back. This place offers great and friendly service, awesome burgers and wonderful entertainment. A local place to go back to time and time again. Thank you to two wonderful gals. Donnie and Cat.

Terrible… saw the good reviews… went for a quick lunch. 20 minutes to get someone to even wait on us and there’s 8 people in the dining area… got the food… cold !. Sent back to the microwave… seriously? Ordered the loaded BLT to split with someone… she got like 3 pieces of bacon and my half was loaded with 1 piece. didn’t have time to complain… left & found out after… I was overcharged. Pissed off my nice Saturday !

Food was great, service not so much for a midweek day. I’ll call my order on next time and get it to go. They do take discover cards.

I specifically ordered a burger without the cheese so I could gauge the burger at its most basic, and it was really good, fresh, and no-nonsense. The three others in my party ordered two cheeseburgers and one fish sandwich, and all were satisfied. The waitress mentioned they had chili that night, so I got a cup with raw onions sprinkled on top, and it was all business, good tomato-y taste with the chili seasoning not too front forward. But you come here for the clientele. This is a real bar with regular customers who are all without pretension. I came in from Washington DC, and the lack of yuppies was refreshing! Wish this was the bar down the street from me.

As my finace just said to me, «anything grilled or fried there is great! Anything else, shouldn’t be eaten.» Some places are good at lots of things. If you’re looking for that place, go to Champps. Others, are good at just a few things. They have a menu that is a folded piece of paper because you don’t really need the menu. This is one of those places! And the thing, is a delicious, juicy and perfectly cooked hamburger. Let’s talk about great bar hamburgers. You can always tell a great burger joint by a waiter or waitresses reaction to your order. Do they ask you how you want it cooked… then it’s not a good burger place! If you’re looking for a burger bar where the choices are between 1⁄3 or ½ pound, cheese or no cheeses, and with or without fries… now you’re talking. This place boasts«Detroit’s best burger,» «the world’s best burger,» and about five other superlatives. I don’t know who bestowed these rankings, but they were accurate. A little bar on the west side of Dixie Hwy past where humanity should live, is a place called the Springfield Inn. The tables and chairs have been in this place since it opened as have some of the staff and customers who appear to be permanent fixtures, but they do burgers and beer very well, and the beer comes by the bucket. I know I’m normally Unilocaling about fancy diners and uppity places that I go to on my travels, but this little gem moved me to write. As a kid who grew up in Utica Michigan, the Shamrock bar and grill was the place the locals went to get a great burger and beer. I’ve found its doppelgänger. The burgers are great… cooked perfectly in the way that only a well seasoned grill can make them. They served on paper plates housed in plastic coasters. Classy, no… fantastically good, yes. They don’t ask you what you want on it because it’s a bar burger. A few minutes before the burger arrives, you get a tray with piles of pickles, onions and lettuce and tomatoes as well as mustard, ketchup and mayo. Want something else, go somewhere else. Did I mention I love places that know they’re good at what they do? When the burger arrives it’s a healthy sized burger with a fresh bun. It’s loaded with melted cheese and seasoned perfectly. The burger is a juicy medium, as a good burger ought to be. And it’s great. I’ve had burgers that cost twice as much(it was 6.95 for the ½ lb with fries… come on!), and tasted half as good. The waitstaff, even despite a changeover, was fantastic and attentive. The first waitress was still there, drinking at the bar when we left. I think I’m the first to Unilocal this place, but I won’t be the last. If you’re ever in the norther part of of southeastern Michigan and you’re looking for a place to find burger heaven… look no further. This place has what you’re looking for and does it with an unassuming confidence that you can only find in a place that does what it does well and has no need to do anything else. Well done!
