Not bad for two people and quiet Saturday night. Server is very comforting and the Pad Se Ew is tasty and hearty yellow curry. The noodle is little softer than other Thai but very good balance with spice. The Tom Yum soup is good as usual. Comforting for cold night with strong wind.

I walked into Thai Recipes with a larger group after a long day. All I wanted something hot and that reminded me of home. We were seated rather quickly, as there weren’t many people in the restaurant on that Saturday night. I ordered one of my Thai food staples: Pad Se Ew with tofu. Service was rather slow, as I remember sitting at the table for a while and even going to the restroom out of boredom all before the food came. The dish looked rather appetizing, but it was lacking a lot of flavors. The noodles and vegetables were rather plain/bland. It wasn’t my favorite. The thai iced tea with free refills was nice!!! Overall, I would say to pass on this restaurant and look for another Thai spot.

HAVEAGAIN: Excellent dishes were pumpkin tod, fresh rolls tofu, gaeng panang with tofu, bassa pad ped, basil talay, red curry with beef and praram with beef and Thai iced tea. Very good dishes were satay gai, steamed rice, pad thai with added vegetables and tofu, and basil eggplant stir fry with chicken. This was takeout(with duplicate dishes) for a large Christmas Eve dinner party of ten adults and five children. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, and the party was excellent. Thanks, Thai Recipes!

Food was just OK. Servers were inattentive and a little rude. When we lingered at our table in the mostly empty restaurant, they became visibly impatient with us like they wanted us to leave ASAP. I felt really put off by their attitudes.

A favorite for many years. If you have been lucky enough to visit Thailand you will be glad to find this. If not, welcome. You will have the dining and the grace of that land. There are glitzier places, but none more authentic.

Really disappointed! I told the waitress we had a Unilocal coupon for dessert. But when the dessert comes to us they just told me they didn’t take coupons from Unilocal!!!Cuisines are not bad! But I love Sophia’s better. We come here cuz Sophia is not open today due to its kitchen problem…

We came in here after the staff at Thai Canteen across the street was incredibly slow and clearly didn’t care about us. Walking into this restaurant felt so much more civilized! The waiter greeted and seated us with a smile the second we walked through the door and wait times for ordering and getting food were very short. There was nice piano music playing in the background and noise level was pretty low even though there were enough people for it not to feel empty. This was actually my second time here and both experiences were good, with good food. The portion sizes here are exactly right for me: the portion was a little small to look at, but filled me perfectly by the time I took my last bite. It is a little pricier than some other Thai places in Davis for slightly smaller portions… I take one star off because it isn’t as beautiful(wall colors, art, etc.) as other restaurants I’ve been to before, but there also was nothing notably wrong with it. It’s a nice place to have a quiet meal with friends or family.

Davis is known for having an abundance of Thai restaurants in the downtown area. Thai Recipes was the next one on the list for me to check off! For 2 people, we ordered the shrimp pad thai, duck noodle soup, and basil eggplant with chicken. Total bill was around $ 35. The portions of the dishes were leaning on the smaller side. There was nothing out of the ordinary or special about the dishes we ordered. They were also pricier than the other Thai restaurants in Davis. I would recommend going to Thai Canteen across the street for their cheaper prices and consistency! On a brighter note, they do play some good piano pieces while you eat. I was surprised to hear Paul Cardall’s Diamond for Stones over the intercom. It made me feel like I was on a peaceful journey. I forgot I was eating average thai food.

Absolutely horrible. Took my girlfriend here at 7PM on a Saturday night. The service’s friendliness could be likened to Keanu Reeve’s acting. The server neglected us in exchange for a bigger party. He disappeared for 15 minutes at a time, after delivering one of our plates with no silverware, and not checking on us at all. They also ran out of white rice– not sure how this happens at a Thai place. Do Italian places run out of pasta? Finally, after giving my credit card for the bill, we waited approximately 25 minutes for the card to be returned. The food: Their tom kha soup was bland and flavorless despite asking for it to be on the spicier side. The main course was average at best. Never coming here again and not sure why you would run a restaurant where you are lazy, unconcerned about customers, and mediocre at cooking. We will never return here, and will be sure to let all our friends know how terrible the service and the food was. This place needs to either change management or close.

I came here for a late dinner with some friends on the way back from Tahoe. I ordered red curry with soft tofu. It was super bland, and didn’t taste like red curry at all. The tofu was fine(soft tofu is kind of hard to mess up), but the rest of the dish was just not good. My friend got the larb moo(minced pork with spices) with some lettuce. She said it wasn’t flavorful at all. I was super disappointed in this place.

Best Thai cuisine in Davis. The Pad Thai with glass noodles, nuts, and fried tofu and pineapples were my favorite dish in there. The fried rice is excellent too. There are so many good foods to eat there, I recommend people who have Thai food as their favorite kind of food go there.

I went with my boyfriend and we really wanted to like this place. It sure seemed nice inside and the waitress was friendly too. but when the food came it was so horrible we both spat it out. Possibly the worst flavor I’ve ever experienced. Both of our meals were inedible, mine in particular. We brought it to the attention to the staff, who retrieved the owner. The owner told us it was because of the«high heat» used, and we were left with a check charging us at full price. Totally unacceptable service, but not the waitress’ fault. We paid, left both feeling sick from the taste, and went elsewhere for lunch.

Won’t be back, Thai Recipes was a big let down. As Thai is one of my favorite foods, I have tasted it from all kinds of places, especially in Davis. Thai Recipes is just average food. I ordered ahead for take-out the spicy fried rice with prawns. The lunch time dish cost me $ 10.95, seriously not worth that much money. The dish had lots of flavor but the rice seemed an odd color to me, really brown and it wasn’t brown rice and absolutely the prawns did NOT taste fresh at all. I was worried I was going to get food poisoning. The size of the order, wish I had taken a photo was so small, should have cost at the most $ 7.95. Having said all that. Others might enjoy the place but based on price and freshness, I won’t be returning.

This restaurant probably isn’t as popular as the others because it’s obscured on the bottom floor of Mansion Square, but you’re missing out if you’re not coming here! Thai Recipes is located under Hometown and near Zen Toro(across the street from Canteen). It’s a lot less busy, so you can expect to be served quickly and checked up on several times during your meal. They serve more authentic tasting Thai here than at any of the other restaurants and the food is excellent. It isn’t too salty and the flavors would be hard to replicate. Portions may be smaller than usual, but prices are reasonable. Definitely try it over the many other Thai places Davis has to offer. It won’t disappoint in service or quality!

Hands down, best thai restaurant in Davis … ever! Haven’t been to this location in 8 years and i’ve been in davis for the longest time … we finally went for my boyfriend’s birthday and I can’t believe I haven’t been coming here … We went crazy and ordered a bunch of stuff in the spirit of birthdays(and i was in the company of a bunch of guys so these ones eat a lot) Crab cakes were IMO a bit mushy but I still liked them. Chicken wings were yum Tom Kha Gai was excellent Pad See Ew is my boyfriend’s to die-for favorite and I usually don’t touch his food, but this time around it wasn’t dry or bland like other Thai places … sooo thats a good sign. The crab fried rice was good … for $ 10 yes. Pad Thai is standard, not dry at all ever … Their 1 – 4 scale … if you like spicy, go with the 4. 3 wasn’t that spicy.

Just in Davis for the day and went to Zen Toro which is, oddly, not open for lunch on the weekends… so into Thai Recipes we went. The décor could be described as early 90’s with a side of Thai art. The service was OK, nothing special. Mom ordered Pad Thai, Robin had Pad Preow-warn, and I had Pad Gratiam-Prig. The food was, uniformly, fine. Nothing too flavorful. Not terrible, but lacking in passion. Nothing to write home about. All in all I think 3stars sums it up.

Came in for my second time here on an empty week night a few days ago. Server was friendly and refilled water often, but that may have been because it wasn’t very crowded. We ordered chicken curry puffs, butterfly shrimp, and Thai rolls as appetizers. All were good, though all were fried so to some degree the textures were similar to each other. Next time I’m here, the chicken curry puffs will stay and I’ll try to find other textures for appetizers. Ordered a crab fried rice and pad thai. Pad thai was average, but better than Sophia’s. Crab fried rice was very good. The food is very tasty, though perhaps not as flavorful or strong as Thai Nakorn, which may disappoint the more hardcore Thai food enthusiasts. If you’re looking for a chill place to get consistent thai food, Thai Recipes is a very safe bet. In a sense, it’s possible that Thai Nakorn is the better Thai restaurant, but it’s just as possible that my personal preference leans toward Thai Recipes.

Note to self: redeem the check-in offer for free dessert! When I tire of Taste of Thai and Thai Nakorn, I remember tucked away Thai Recipes. I’m usually a sucker for green curry with brown rice and fried tofu or chicken, pad see-ew pork or pad Thai with shrimp. Always a fan of Thai iced tea and the sticky rice/mango dessert too. A nice quiet place for lunch. Service can sometimes be slow since there’s only one server, but the food is great. Restrooms require a key and are located outside the restaurant eating area. Parking can also be tricky along E Street; I recommend the F Street Regal parking garage as an alternative.
