My family and I have been going to Tally HO for several years, and we find Tally Ho to be an enjoyable family restaurant. If you are visiting the Oneonta area, or staying near Oneonta on a trip to Cooperstown, this is only a little bit off the beaten path, just a few minutes from Downtown Oneonta. If you are looking for a relaxing family buffet, this is a great place. When you drive past the building, it looks like a run down house, but it’s what is inside that counts. There are no menus, as everything is on a buffet. The meal starts with hot, fresh rolls, and the buffet has at least a dozen different selections. A typical night will have either lasagna or baked ziti, mashed potatoes, roast beef and gravy, BBQ pork, ham, and two different types of chicken. Although it doesn’t appear anywhere on the menu, be sure to ask for their Cajun beef. It’s only a $ 4 or $ 5 upcharge, but well worth it, sliced steak(similar to a London Broil), cooked in a flavorful mix of spices. The food quality is similarly priced to that which you’d find at a buffet restaurant, but a much higher quality. The owner is very friendly, and can usually be found in the kitchen every night. We make a point to make a drive from our home in Binghamton up to the Tally Ho at least once or twice a year – for a good evening of comfort food.
