What a disappointment! Houmas House has been our«go to» special event destination for years. There have been some changes to Latile’s(pre fixe menu that didn’t interest us) so we opted to try The Carriage House. My husband and I dined here last night(New Years Eve). The room is beautiful, but it was all downhill from there. We were given 4 small rolls that were cold and hard. We asked for butter to make them palatable — my Bloody Mary shrimp cocktail was like dipping into soup & my husband’s gumbo tasted like rice with turkey gravy. The salad? Save your $. I had the $ 50 filet … Meh. Under-seasoned. My partner had the pork — generous portion but it was pale and unappetizing to look at. The plating was unimpressive. The service was not what I expect at this price point — someone who looked like he could have been a bus boy rushed past our table and gave us a «thumbs up». We were later informed he was the executive chef. Wish I had known. We were not offered dessert or coffee, and when we asked we were told they had only 2 choices — but the waiter made them sound like consolation prizes — so we cut our losses. Guess we’ll be looking for a new place. The gardens and the Turtle bar are outstanding — but dine elsewhere.

What a gem! Seriously amazing food. Menu is small, but everything has a Louisiana-flare. Eating here feels like you’ve been transported back in time. The Carriage House is located on the lovely property of Houmas House.
