Five stars for the bar service, Dawn Outlaw makes an outstanding margarita, keeps an immaculate bar but the best is that she is a great employee who is always friendly. The food is typical Mexican food, however, the Diablo platter(very very spicy) is awesome.

Great Churros need to try the food though. I’ll have to go back one of these days. Good margaritas too. Thanks!

Boyfriend and I decided to give this place another shot. We went for dinner and both ordered burritos. I ordered just beans and rice, and he got the super/special burrito(exact name escapes me). Before our food arrived, we ordered a side of guacamole to go with our chips. It was the most bland, boring bowl of guacamole I’ve ever had. No hint of lime or jalepeno at all, even though the menu says that’s what’s in their fresh, homemade guac. We had to wait for our burritos. Our server(who was really nice) even came up to say she didn’t know why they were so late coming from the kitchen. We eventually did get our food. For only having refried beans and rice, and nothing else, my burrito was incredibly salty. I’ve never eaten anything as salty as that, excluding salt on a margarita glass. My boyfriend said his burrito was salty too. He only ate a third of his and I ate half of mine. We complained about the saltiness to our server who told us a couple other tables had also complained about their food that night, and she would inform the kitchen. She also took the more expensive burrito off our bill, which was nice of her. We both decided that we won’t be coming back for a very long time.

Our last few visits to Prickly Pear have all been outstanding. We’ve had great service, excellent meals and the overall atmosphere was upbeat and positive. We’ll be back again soon.

Great Mexican fare all around. I usually get an enchilada and taco combo and leave FULL! It comes with rice and beans on the side and who can resist those? The chicken is generously portioned and has great flavor. We have also gotten the basic chicken and beans burrito to go. It was huge — split into lunch and dinner the next day. The complimentary chips are really light and fresh every time I have gone. Service is quick and friendly. The patio is a great place to eat and enjoy a margarita on a nice warm day or evening.

I’ve always been a fan of the Worth Group and have dined several times at Peasant and the Pear as well as the Little Pear. For me, the Prickly Pear wasn’t as good as the other two. I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t feel the authenticity come through in the food or if it was the choice of dish I chose. I didn’t expect the Mexican cuisine to be comparable to what you get in the Mission, SF but I was looking for more flavors to wow me. Friend and I had dinner at the PPC for the first time on Taco Tuesday. We didn’t actually end up ordering any tacos though. The deal didn’t seem too enticing for $ 3 and $ 4 street tacos per piece. We just decided to on ordering off the menu. It was a frigid evening, so I ordered a bowl of Posole. Perfect weather for soup. Friend ordered the chicken enchilada plate. The Posole arrived in a huge bowl. It looked delicious and filling as there were huge chunks of pork along with lots of hominy and topped with shredded cabbage and sliced radishes. Although the soup had depth and color, I thought it tasted slightly bland. It needed something more to kick it up, possibly more spices and salt. Portion-wise, it was plenty for two and I ended up taking half of it home. We also filled up on the chips and salsa, which were fresh and irresistible. Friend ordered a margarita on the rocks as well. The restaurant interior is decorated nicely and there’s plenty of space in the dining room. They also have a nice outdoor patio for warmer days. Our server, Jordan was awesome! He was so energetic and came to check on us at all the right times. Overall, OK for a more Americanized-Mexican restaurant. Will try something different if I were to return. Easy parking and located inside the Blackhawk Plaza by the Anthropologie store.

I just got take out and was very disappointed. My ‘Famoso’ burrito was ordered without beans but came with only carnitas and rice. No cheese, guacamole, sour cream and it wasn’t served ‘wet’ for $ 15. I suspect it was too loud for the person taking the order to hear. The bill which I checked had nothing about the order modification. My wife thought her enchiladas smelled like a Stoufers dinner. My daughters burrito came as ordered. She thought it was fine. Tried this as a better alternative to Baja Fresh. I’ll have to keep looking.

Well they have come up! Wasn’t too hot the first time I tried the restaurant a few years ago. Tried it again today — more convenience than anything else. Didn’t want to drive too far. Super good! Chips and salsa were on point. Wow. Love that just enough salt on the chips without being too salty. Kid had nachos. Cheese was almost like butter. So good! Husband had the famoso burrito and loved it. Couldn’t finish it. Probably best to share that dish. I played it safe with street tacos because I was unsure of food. Had carne asada — good! Lastly both of us started with a cup of chicken tortilla soup and the other cup of pozole. Loved my chicken tortilla soup and pozole was not too bad. Also — service was very attentive. Drinks refilled quite a few times without asking. Server was super nice and personable. Give this place a shot!

Ugh… Every place I’ve gone to for lunch or dinner at Blackhawk has been a huge disappointment. This place was supposed to be a special birthday dinner for my dad and my sister recommended it. The chips and salsa were the only thing everyone enjoyed. All of our dishes lacked flavor. Not good at all. Will not return.

Overall a bad dining experience. Had to ask twice about my order. My group was halfway through their lunch when my meal arrived. Simple enchiladas nothing special… you would think that that would have been the first dish to the table. Server did apologize. BUT I would have thought that management would have been right over to apologize. When she did approach the table, not a mention of the delay.

Ahhhhh, this place is soooo inconsistent! I’ve had great meals here and I’ve had awful meals here. My go to is the famoso burrito, essentially a wet carnitas burrito. Sometimes the carnitas are a perfect combination of crispy and tender and sometimes they just taste dry and oily. The Chile rellano is usually nice and crispy, but often times the pepper is left undercooked. The prickly pear margarita is a nice cocktail. As with the rest of Blackhawk plaza. The outdoor seating is nice on warm days. The chips and salsa always taste fresh. There are some good happy hour specials.

Great Mexican served here! Love the tacos and the diablo shrimp fajitas! Great service here overall, although they have mixed up an order or two in the past, but still a great place!

The service is friendly and quick, the environment is very appropriate/perfect for evenings and the food is all great! I was so amazed with their Classic Taco Salad because it was bigger and more flavorful than I expected!

On a trip to visit relatives up in Norcal, we stopped by the fabled shopping center that is named after a dark-colored bird. Blackhawk… SQUAWK. Ok, I didn’t really see or hear a blackhawk there, but I can imagine what a blackhawk screech would sound like. After the nephews and nieces were running around, running around, and running around, everyone worked up an appetite. Blackhawk Grille was unable to seat us, so we tried Prickly Pear. I feel like a broken record, but customer service is really what I care about when I go out to a restaurant. The food here at Prickly Pear wasn’t spectacular, but it was good. It was warm and filling. The chips were a little salty. The salsa was refilled often though. I enjoyed the carnitas. Thank you for that recommendation in your review, Isabella B! Oh yeah, they forgot my drink. It wasn’t that hard to remember a Sprite, right? When I finally got my Sprite and enjoyed a little cool spritzy soda, it got refilled with water. No more spritziness. I mean a Sprite/water…whatevs. They look the same. However, I forgive a lot when a restaurant works hard to make us feel important. The very friendly waitress came by often to check on us. Ms. Waitress put up with rambunctious children making a ruckus and took our group picture. Yeah, it was a pleasant experience given the circumstances. I would come back.

Friendly staff but poor service overall. Food was slow to come and bland. Quite the opposite from what we would expect at a cantina! There was a large party outside– but that’s still no reason we should sit for almost 5 minutes ungreeted, nor for our food to take well over 20 without explanation.

Don’t understand one reviewer’s comment on how this place is the«This is by far the BEST Mexican food you can find in Danville and San Ramon». If that is the case, then I’d skip the rest of the restaurants in the area. First, the restaurant is VERY loud. So loud, I couldn’t hear the person next to me. Went for dinner with two other folks and all of us were underwelmed by this expensive place. I ordered the house margarita which has a decent tequila(El Jimador Blanco). It was the most sickly, sweet margarita I have ever let cross my lips. Unfortunately, so sweet, it masked the flavor of the fine tequila. I had to send it back(and I RARELY send food or drink back). I ordered a Chile Relleno. It appears they let it sit out for a while as it was super hard and chewy(the batter). Beans were good(but how hard is it to cook refried beans?) and the rice was dry. My friend ordered a rice, bean and cheese burrito with guacamole. She was served a guacamole burrito(literally, the burrito was full of guacamole, with a little beans and rice… we had to send it back). Still scratching my head about that place… it was pretty busy for a Thursday night. Won’t be back.

I would give them 2.5 stars but rounded it up because of the good customer service. Ordered portobello mushroom and mahi mahi fajitas togo tonight for dinner. Both orders were plain. The spanish rice and grilled veggies were bland and lacking flavor. The fish wasn’t too bad. The chips and salsa were good though. It was easy to place the order over the phone and my order was repeated to me to ensure accuracy. The food was ready when promised and packed up nicely in a togo bag with utensils, chips, salsa, guac, sour cream, and the two main dishes. Park at the Anthropologie parking lot and walk in. The restaurant is located«inside» the«mall» behind/left of the Little Pear restaurant.

Haven’t tried all of Rodney’s locations(love the little pear) and I would say the Prickly Pear is nowhere near authentic good Mexican food. This is a great restaurant for those who are looking for more Americanized Mexican dishes. The location is nice and the restaurant is huge. Our waiter was extremely helpful and really nice. I ordered a chicken enchilada with chile relleno and he ordered the chile colorado. The enchilada was bland and the verde sauce didn’t have flavor at all, the«melted cheese» was hard. The spanish rice was a little on the dry side and the deep fried chile relleno was not good at all, it actually had a really bad after taste, meaning they probably don’t use good oil or they haven’t changed their oil in awhile if they used a deep fryer(learned that from the cooking channel: P). Best thing on my plate were the pinto beans and the chips and salsa(had a good kick). Don’t think I would be coming back here again. But look forward to trying his other locations.
