Hartz & Soles

My favorite shoes ever have come from this store. I’m not in town often, but when I have the chance I always go in. She often has a sale section, and I love my hobo bag! When visitors want to see the sights we sometimes swing in there because its awesome. Yes, I am a person with weird old tired feet, but the shoes are so comfortable and good looking that people hopefully only see the cute shoes!

The store has beautiful, well made shoes, however, the store Manager is extremely rude and exudes a great deal of attitude with customers. I was over charged and I contacted the manager the next day regarding this error. After two months of following up, after being provided lots of excuses, I decided to call on 9÷13÷13, and she screamed at me, then hung up on me.
I will not support any store whereby I am treated in a rude manner. I have been overcharged before by a merchant, however, the retailer began with an apology and then resolved the problem expeditiously!
I have received lots of complements on the shoes, and planned to purchase several other pairs. I will not shop in this establishment again nor will I refer anyone!
I was willing to overlook the over charge, but after the inappropriate, discourteous behavior I decided that my experience with Hartz & Soul needed to be shared.

The store has a nice selection of unique shoes and I’ve bought six pair here in the last couple years or so, plus been in the store well over a dozen times. My complaint is that every time I go into the store the owner acts as if she’s never seen me before. It’s really off putting. I’m taking a star off because of it. She’s great about helping with shoe selection and really knows her inventory. Shoes are great, quality and I’ve been pleased with my purchases.

This is a wonderful local small business.
Staff — very patient. The owner is great, she will work with you, find out what you need, suggest brands to fit your specific needs, etc.
Selection — this store targets women who need functional, comfortable shoes, who walk/​stand a lot or who have a foot injury/​issue. By the same token, this is for folks that have all these needs, as well as a shoe that would work with a dressy outfit or a suit for work. If you’re in one of those categories, it’s a perfect store for you. There are a few things for men and kids, but I’d say it’s mostly a woman’s store.
Prices are comparable to Nordstrom, give or take, but they do mark things down, so if you’re buying a summer shoe in the fall, you will get a better deal, etc. Since I’m comparing this store to Nordstrom, i have to say that HArtz & Soles has a bigger selection and you can still find something to fit your budget.
Overall, I’d say this is a great store, and shoes are much better looking/​fashinable if you compare to like a walking store or some orthopedic type store. Not Manolos, but great for work/​formal occasion if you need this type of shoe.

I have walked through many times and the people were always pleasant. They have a nice selection of shoes and I bought 2 pairs of shoes. When I tried to wear one around the house the heel slipped and I didn’t want to keep them. I did not bring them back in the 5 day return period so I had to choose something else, there is no store credit. Every shoe I choose they were out of in my size. They would not give me store credit to come in again when more shoes came in later in the season. Their stock is low, so there were not many shoes in any given size. This was very frustrating. I live in town and would have been happy to wait for my first, second or third choice shoe to be stocked in my size, but I didn’t have that option. I felt like I had to get something right then or nothing and loose my money. With such poor and inflexible customer service why would I buy anything more from them? You can get the same shoes at Zappos or Nordstrom who will exchange shoes that don’t fit with no problem. No wonder they are having problems!

Go here and hope that Melinda is working. She will give you every bit of good info she knows about shoes and the shoes you need for any occasion– walking around and traveling in Europe or even what would be comfortable to wear out that night in your most uncomfortable high heels. She is very knowledgeable and will give you the best info whether it’s good or not.
The rest of the staff is probably just as great, i was just lucky to run into Melinda.

I have been here random times over the years I’ve lived in Alamo. This afternoon, I was off to Longs to pick up last minute items for a trip I’m taking for business (I can’t stand the Longs in Alamo so I drive to Danville where they actually restock their inventory). I normally would drive via Railroad, however there was some grandpa in a cadillac driving 20 miles an hour so I took the Hartz route. I was driving past Hartz & Soles and lo and behold there was a parking spot right in front and a big sign out front advertising a SALE — being such a sucker for sales (ie: I practically live at LOEHMANNS), I HAD to stop. The store was packed, today was Danville Sidewalk sale or something like that. The thin sweet blonde woman (I believe she’s the owner) was awesome! I musta had her bring out 15 pairs of shoes for me (there were too many cute styles!) — and I finally settled on a darling pair of Italian espadrilles and some ergonomic sandals that cover my wide Fred Flistone feet adequately. Seriously, she’s a rock star — I never waited more than 1 minute for my shoes and there were about 10 women in the store. They have a great selection of stylish shoes & sandals from the $ 50 range to the very unique and rare $ 300 range. They also have very cute purses (Kenneth Cole & Hobo seem to be predominant). They also have some darling jewelry. I like that they offer the same styles you can get at Nordstrom & also styles you would only find at a boutique store.
This is a dangerous place, people!
