I was treated here once and I’m not dead, so I guess it’s a decent place to go. Parking sucks though.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m thoroughly disgusted by the performance of the doctors and nurses that were taking care of me while I was sick at geisinger. Doctors didn’t listen to what I had to tell them concerning my previous diagnoses, and kept giving/ordering me medications I couldn’t have which caused my condition to get obviously much worse. Nurses also were giving me laxatives without my knowledge, which by the way I didn’t need, and ended up giving me the worst stomach cramps of my life. To top it off — my potassium levels to quote the rather rude nurse were«slightly below normal» — so they, again without telling me gave me potassium while I was having incredible stomach pain, which is a big no, no. On top of not listening to me, doctors kept giving me empty promises as to when I could leave. I was first told as soon as I felt better and showed signs of improvement — wrong. Then they gave me specific dates which I would inquire about when that day turned up on the calendar — also wrong. They said they were keeping me for observational purposes, but the whole thing seemed incredibly fishy. Why did I need to be observed for five days while I felt better and had none of the symptoms I had had when I came in? Not sure if they were just trying to milk my insurance for all it was worth, or they’re just truly sadists. I ended up signing myself out AMA — something I would never do, and would never recommend doing — but drastic times call for drastic measures, and I wasn’t about to just sit back and see how long they’d actually keep a healthy patient around for. Seriously, I’m still disgusted thinking about the whole experience. It’s a shame this is the only hospital option for a lot of Pennsylvanians. I hope no one ever has to experience what I went through for themselves.

I’m not questioning the dedication of the medical staff, which often does their best in tough situations with no easy answers. There are times I’ve had hit or miss experiences with some staff, but there are many reasons why this could happen. Generally, when I end up having to be at Geisinger Medical Center, it’s never a good situation. Two things have become rather clear with my latest visits. One: Due to the numerous expansions over the years, this place is complicated. When visiting I need written instructions to find anything. Yes, the hallways are marked, but it’s a labyrinth of never ending corridors. Two: No shuttle buses on the weekend. If you want to visit someone, be prepared to walk unless you’re paying for valet. This adds more stress to the already stressful situation, so why not offer at least one shuttle on the half hour or something at least? Not everyone can visit during a weekday, people have to work. These things, along with the general situation of having to be at Geisinger Medical Center, just add undo stress.

very friendly, experienced and huge. I have cleaned for some of the Doctors and resident doctors. They are great loving people.

Where to start? Don’t let Geisinger’s size intimidate you — it is huge. It is also an amazing hospital. I’ve had 4 surgeries, countless Dr. appts, and two babies(one preemie) there. I honestly cannot say enough about this hospital. The staff is friendly and efficient. The doctors and nurses are highly skilled. The entire hospital is spotless. Waiting room time is minimal compared to other hospitals. And, considering it’s size, Geisinger still has a personal feel. If you go allow yourself an extra 15 – 20 minutes to park and get to your appt on time. They have free shuttle buses running all day and into the evening. The cafeteria food is good. There is a gift shop and a Ronald McDonald house on property.
