Such a great hidden gem in Danville! Ate there today and had the orchard salad. The food was fresh, light, and tasteful! The staff there is extremely friendly and the inside is very warm. Plus, TRULY family owned & operated! Highly recommend!

Though I have had yummy desserts from the locally famous Bread Basket, this was my first visit for brunch. I met up with five friends for a girls day out breakfast. When we originally made the plan to meet here, we had forgotten all about it being Mayberry Days in Downtown Danville. We bucked the odds, forged ahead and decided to hope for the best. Luckily, we beat the crowds. The Bread Basket is a quaint little family run restaurant nestled off the main drag in Danville. You have to look for it.(It’s across the side street from the Speedway gas station) in the back and side, they have plenty of parking. They also have a really nice access ramp to the entrance, which is actually at the back of the house, and not the front. They layout of the building is a little odd, but it’s a converted house. Hey, it gives it character, and once you’ve been there a time or 2, it’s fine. You are there for the food and the ambiance. And that is where they excel! My friends all race about the quiche. If you’ve read my other reviews, you know I’m not only picky, I’m a picky vegetarian. I also can’t eat a lot of dairy. So, my options are limited. This is why I always try to mention what others in my group like. Anyway, they have a lot on the menu for breakfast, including daily specials of a couple of different quiches. I spoke to once of the family members who works there and she said they buy local when they can. You can tell from how fresh the food tasted that this was true. All six of us were seated quickly, our drink orders placed and drinks brought in a timely manner. We had one waitress who took care of us and another server or helper who also kept our water(and tea for those who ordered it) glasses full). I ordered scrambled eggs, dry toast and herb roasted potatoes. The potatoes melted in my mouth. They had a subtle spice on them that was hard to describe but delicious. At first I thought they brought me 4 pieces of toast because the bread was so thick. I had asked for my eggs scrambled extra-extra well done(I hate wet eggs). They were perfect! My meal was amazing. They garnished the plate with a thick slice of watermelon. I couldn’t finish everything, the servings were so large. The price for this was 7.50. Everyone one in the group felt the same way about their food. I don’t think anyone was able to finish their food, though everyone tried, because it was so good. I’ve eaten at pretty much all the well know restaurants in Danville. This one might not be as well known as some, but it definitely has the best and freshest food and really good service. Just one negative, when you are stuffed and have already paid, you have to pass this glass case full of beautiful pies, cakes, muffins and other tempting desserts. It’s torturous of them to do this to people. Especially, when you know how good they are. So just plan ahead and get a peanut butter pie to go. You won’t be sorry.

Scrumtralescent! When I first started working in Hendricks County, I asked around to find everyone’s favorite local eats. The bread basket was atop many lists, and for good reason it has to be one of the best breakfast places I’ve had! The highlights were the cinnamon roll French toast and the biscuits and gravy. Solid effort for the B&G as the biscuits were fresh and flaky and he homemade gravy was full of meat! The CRFT was divine, it kicks you in the mouth sugary sweetness. It’s a fun take on two bfast favorites that absolutely works! Add in fresh fruit, crispy bacon and fluffy eggs for an awesome experience.

Had breakfast/lunch here last week. I ordered a sausage and cheese omelet and my husband opted for lunch. He ordered both a Greek salad and a club, he was happy with both. The dressing in the salad was fantastic. My omelet was Ok but the cinnamon roll had the most amazing icing. This place is adorable, an older home with a delightful front porch that I would love to sit on weather permitting. The service was great. The desserts looked amazing but we couldn’t even finish the cinnamon roll. I’ve been told that everything is homemade! I would not have found this restaurant without the assistance of Unilocal.I did however feel that the prices were a little high for the portion size. Two egg omelet served only with toast for just under $ 10. The total tab was $ 42 prior to tip.

Awesome food and baked goods. I don’t want to say too much so as not to attract too much attention to our little gem in Danville. Love the Sweetie Pies. Last time I was there I had a Monte Cristo that was off the chart good. Love it.

I just moved to Danville and this is my new favorite breakfast and lunch spot but no matter where you live it’s worth the drive. I have had nothing but excellent food and warm smiles here. The food is always cooked to perfection and always very tasty. They make all there baked goods in house and I hear that the cinnamon rolls are to die for. I have not tried them yet but they are huge. The portions are more than generous and the prices are in range. And for all my brother and sister firefighters out there the Bread Basket is owned and operated by a firefighters wife and mother in law. So don’t be a stranger come and enjoy the food and the ambiance. Mark Graves

We were in Danville last week and wanted to have lunch. The one restaurant we know well was packed, but a search on my app sent us to Bread Basket & Café. I was thrilled. The restaurant itself is in what was once a house, which makes it seem so inviting. Outdoor seating on the front porch was our choice for the semi-warm day. My fiancé took one look at the menu and insisted I brought him to a girl restaurant. One look around at the lunchtime clientele(lots of women who lunch!) and I could only giggle, but we both enjoyed our lunch. He opted for the most manly thing he could find listed(BBQ pulled pork) and I had an amazing Grilled cheese with tomato and pesto sauce. Service was friendly and efficient, making me glad our regular restaurant was crowded and we found a new lunch venue. I will definitely have to come back again sometime… with the ladies in my life!

Yesterday my husband and I visited for brunch. He had a veggie omelet. When he asked for salsa the waitress offered to «whip some up», they did and it was amazing. I had the BLT and it was on fresh baked bread with home grown tomatoes. The fresh fruit was perfect, the coffee was delicious. We loved the old craftsman style home that serves as the restaurant. This is our new favorite place for breakfast. Can’t wait to try the pies.

Sooooooo gooooooood! I’m not much for breakfast but I loved the Smoked Salmon omelet! Really good coffee(strong too!). Homemade break was delicious. I had the honey oat and ate every bit. Save room for pie and don’t bother with a to go box. These ladies do an awesome job with their family run bakery. :) we’ll be back!

Excellent simple homemade breakfast made with fresh ingredients. Beautiful sunny porch on a summer morning! Great friendly service without unnecessary interruptions. It was about your needs being met in a friendly welcoming manner, not making the server your new BFF. I love when a place gets that!

Awesome dessert. I had the peanut butter pie. AWESOME! The turtle pie was too sweet but was better warm. The fresh bread was very good too. Service was great. The staff was very friendly at table & counter

This is a really fine restaurant with a Western European flair, and a mid american excellence. A nice, quiet place. A great staff, terrific desserts and top notch soup selections. The best lunch on the west side of indy; this place is worth the drive. On Saturday breakfast is served until close. Try the smoked salmon omelette. And everyday features a selection of great pies. This place is a real gem. Closed on Mondays, Sunday’s. Doesn’t offer dinner. But it’s still so great.

A surprise inside… The food was amazing. Looks like a house on the outside but inside you are hit with baking aromas that made our mouths water! A must stop.

This is definitely my new go-to breakfast/brunch establishment in the Danville/Avon area. It’s cute, cozy, and welcoming. The service was great, and the food is delicious! I ordered the butter pecan pancakes, so good! The cinnamon rolls were amazing — this was our first time here but I definitely want to come back several times to try everything else on the menu.

Went there for the first time today for lunch. What a pleasant suprise. Quaint little place. Loved everything about it. Had ½ grilled cheese sandwich with a ripe green tomato & basil pesto & an Apple/Walnut salad. It was scrumptious. My husband had a BLT with an egg & avacado. He loved it. We shared a brownie pie with ice cream to make the perfect lunch. Staff was friendly and very attentive. Only problem we had was parking. Small lot & street parking was full. Will definitely go back.

This place is still top notch! I wanted to give an updated review since I have visited about three times since my last review. In fact, the Bread Basket has become our every Saturday spot for breakfast. Superb quality in food, drink, and entrancing desserts. Excellent service on every visit. Keep up the great work!
