Just got an egg salad sub from Betty Anns. The kid behind the counter was extremely nice, but I took one bite of the sub and threw it away. It had a sour taste to it and just didn’t taste like egg salad should. I am disappointed because I love Betty Anns and I was really craving an egg salad. * update * the owner sent me a message on Unilocal and offered me a refund or a new sub. I will go back and update my review.

Place was real good and quick and less than $ 10 for a large sub and chips. Nice teenagers working the counter who were not bothered at all that I had no clue what was on the menu or how the place worked. Nothing fancy at all, which may be the point, but a good spot and I would certainly go back.

Quaint little spot down town with great subs! Bread is soft and fresh, everything is homemade. The tuna with pickles is my favorite. Been eating here for years, never disappointed!

Grew up in Dannvaas and will go out of my way for the subs here(live in so. Nh now). Can get wicked busy. Favorite is a small tuna sub. So consistent it’s weird.

Best sub shop around! I’ve been going here since I was a little kid. So glad its back in the family. I absolutely love their tuna sub. Won’t get tuna anywhere else. The staff is always so sweet and welcoming.

I love the food but get grossed out when I see the handling of paper money and coins and then the making of sandwiches without gloves or washing. Every time I go in I have to pray that one of the ladies makes my sandwich since they are sanitary most of the time.

I love the subs at Betty Ann’s, BUT The small sub rolls have gotten narrower & shorter, not as much filling, and with a Tuna sub, no less! This used to be my go to place for subs. I’ll be thinking twice from now on, if it’s such a wise buy, as the prices have gone up slightly and the size has gone down. Also be sure to tell them about allergies! If I don’t write it down, they forget, twice they’ve almost killed my husband who has a deathly severe allergy.

I am originally from Danvers Mass, and i had 2 favorite sub shops. lena’s original and betty anns. Well, when the original owner from lena’s passed away, the new owners were very cocky and touching food with their hands. actually, the mother of the owner was preparing my sub and i saw her with no gloves on and dirty hands and fingernails. I cancelled the sub and never returned. I went to betty anns, i am so glad to see the owners who owned it years ago bought the building back. Food was fantastic, place was clean, gloves on their hands, friendly service, and most of all, fresh veggies and great cold cuts. No to the idiot who called it oscar myers, you mam or sir don’t know the difference. I always get italians, tunas’ my husband is an italian and meatball guy. FANTASTIC… I drive all the way from haverhill mass to get a betty anns sub shop anytime and in any weather conditions. Thank you for serving the best subs around.

Having gone to Betty’s for years and years, and being a local i gotta say .no thank you. The prices went up and the portions fell on their faces along with the quality. I could eat two 6“subs from Betty’s in place of one«small» 9“in sub from Bridge Street. Its worth the extra 7 min trip… sorry betty:[

I will respectfully disagree with a recent poster who suggested«shenanagans,» as he put it, from other posters.(Presumably I am one of these review hooligans.) I can’t say what brand of Italian meats are used on the Italian subs — I order them occasionally for my wife, but I grew up eating the tuna subs and that’s what I get 100% of the time. As far as the meatballs, they are not«out of the box» or «nothing home made.» When Jack Rakip bought the place in the early 70s he instituted the meatballs using his own recipe. That’s one reason they ran out all the time — when they were gone, they were gone until he made them again. The next owner learned to make them from Jack, and son Peter continues to use his dad’s recipe. And here’s a good tip for one and all — if you’d like Provolone on your meatball sub, ask for it. I ordered one a week ago for my wife and, lo and behold, it had Provolone on it. Often you will be asked what cheese you’d like, but you know, young help is not always as proactive as one may wish. And inasmuch as I have eaten in perhaps 500 or more sub shops in my nearly 56 years, Provolone isn’t used by «99.9% of all other sub shops on the planet.» Believe it or not, some — perish the thought — CHARGEEXTRA for cheese of any kind! But enough of all that… Peter has gradually added several items to the menu since he took over the place. I’ve ordered his various soups and chowders on a few occasions and have found them very good, although a bit pricey for the quantity served. A few new sandwiches have been added but I have not tried any(remember, I’m a 100% tuna guy).

I have to admit, since this place changed hands it’s just plain crazy good. No nutty specials or anything, It’s just very clean, very quick, and the food is fantastic. They appear to take pride in putting fresh veggies(VERYFRESHONES) on their subs, and wow, that really makes a difference. The staff is pleasant and friendly, and the subs are the best… well…anywhere that I can come up with, and I live in Danvers and like subs… so I gotta know SOMETHING. If you haven’t been since they turned over, check em out. Get a Tuna with swiss and hots and some onions and pickles. I do. Like 5 times a week.

Under New management. They seem to have lost the imperial knack of making the famous TUNASUB they used to make. The meat quality fails. The prep of the meat flounders. The only thing still of taste is the roll it sits in.

I find one of the trademarks of a great sub shop is their Italian: spicy yet juicy and flavorful. This place hits it right on the mark

Original owners are back! Thank god! And its showing. Ive been a loyal betty anns customer for years and years, and it kills me to say but the last few years its gone down hill. Now that the original owners are back the subs are better proportioned(no more skimping on veggies and meat), hours are better(no more closing early to go play keno), the prices are lower and best of all Jacks original meatball recipe. They do run out so call ahead or get there early! Worth it. Sooooo happy to see betty anns back to its old tricks! Yum

In June, I rode on a bus for 5 hours from NYC, then the Boston subway, THEN the commuter rail where my mom picked me up. Did I want a nap? Or to just sit and relax? HELLNO. I dropped my bags inside the door and went and got a Betty Ann’s Italian with hots and no onions. Such is my deep abiding love for this Danvers institution. I’m so glad to see it back in good hands(because honestly, the time before last I was there, it was a little disappointing). But now? As good as ever.

I went here for the first time today and it seems like they have a good selection of basic sandwiches. I just wanted a plain tuna sandwich and it was pretty darn good. The woman behind the counter was really nice as well.
