It’s a solid place to go after the beach, snorkeling or kayaking etc. It’s very small, and very tight. But it is definately a place for the locals which is always a good thing. They have good shrimp and it’s an affordable place. Poor seating and parking can get rough. 1 whole star is taken off because their buffalo sauce comes as a dip on the side of the«buffalo shrimp» order, and the sauce is largely made with oil. Constant stirring is required because separation due density differences of the ingredients occurs rapidly. Haven’t tried the other stuff«yet,» and it is popular among locals… so sure, have a taste.

Wow, stopped by because I was in the mood for some seafood so I ordered an appetizer of calamari rings and a main course of the fried combo. There was a minimal weight nothing too long and the calamari came out first, it wasn’t robbery and it was warm and crunchy, almost too much time in the fryer. They give a small portion of sauce so I had to ask for another and before I finished my main course arrived. A large piece of grouper, four large shrimp and maybe a dozen clams strips that were actually quite pitiful. The grouper was great flaky and a good taste for grouper. The shrimp was excellent Book the small pieces that they called clam strips really was a disappointment. Had a piece of homemade Keylime pie which was excellent. My only real disappointment was that the calamari rings where overfried and the clam strips were not up to what I vision clam strips should be. Overall if you’re interested in beer and wings over some conversation with friends this could be a great place there is only one TV and it’s usually on the sports channel but the sound is turned down so the music coming from a tiny radio can be heard instead. I don’t think I’ll go back

If you want great seafood at a low price, this is the place! We came here in a Sunday evening and ordered the special of 1lb snow crab. It came with a side of fries. We also ordered one dozen of little neck clams. The clams were a bit chewy and hard to eat but the crab legs were exceptional. You are lucky to find a seat at this place. It’s busy! It’s definitely not your typical restaurant. You must make eye co tact with one of the staff in order to place an order. Nothing here is like a normal dining experience. If you want to be catered to, you are at the wrong place. Know what you want and be ready to order because they are on the move. The food comes out fast and hot. They have lots of fried fish, gator, shrimp, and conch. Unfortunately they were fresh out of the oysters so we used out. I would def go there again. Be prepared to get your hands dirty!

Hole in the wall with some great food! Looks can be deceiving with this run down joint. Seating is tight, counter service, cool staff, and great food.

Little shack like establishment(not important but I would have never paid attention to it without reviews) with solid and inexpensive food. Gator Tail Dinner My first time eating it, has the consistency of chicken with a distinct sea food like flavor. It tasted good. It was served with Cole slaw and curly fries which were both yummy. «Tark-Style» Chicken Wings I usually would not order chicken wings at a sea food joint but since they were advertised as a House specialty in the menu and wanted to eat some, I went for it. I had the BBQ ones. They had decent flavor and were juicy. Verdict: It is a nice little place that will be appreciated by people that care about the seafood in their plate and not the décor of the establishment.

Amazing food, super cheap! What more could you ask for? We started with Manhattan clam chowder — yum! Can’t find it anywhere anymore, so we jumped on it — the potatoes were soft but not mush, the clams were plump and not chewy. Then we shared Conch(we learned it’s «Konck», no CH sound) fritters, which were a bit like hush puppies with scungilli inside, a tad chewy, but the batter was good. Then we had some raw oysters, shucked right there! The cocktail sauce was super fresh tasting and they give you extra horseradish– yum! After all that, we tried grilled mahi mahi and blackened mahi mahi and grilled shrimp. The blackened was my favorite, so spicy and yummy! Even their tarter sauce is to die for! Of course, we had to try the key lime pie, too, it seemed nice and fresh and tart. I’d recommend this place to anyone, anywhere! We ran into 2 Ohioans(because we just don’t get fresh seafood) and some Marylanders along with many a local Floridian happy to talk about the amazing yummies in this inauspicious hut. Our whole bill was $ 50! We wheelbarrowed ourselves back to the car, blissfully full of fresh seafood. If we are ever back here(cross your fingers), it’s straight back to Tarks and maybe save room for some dolce selato gelato on the way back to our temporary abode! You won’t regret a visit here, be smiley and questioning, they are very frank.

Being originally from Baltimore, we’re kind of funny about… no, not the haha kind of funny, but we’re purists. We tell our seasons by our sports(summer=Orioles, fall, winter=Ravens) and our seafood(summer=crabs, winter=oysters). Our seafood must be right form the water fresh and prepared in such a manner as to let the true natural flavors shine through. Tarks is like a throwback in time… the kind of place that used to dot Baltimore’s Inner harbor. Super fresh seafood, simply prepared, or served raw, and set with a small counter. So it is at Tark’s. It is the most democratic of places… not in a political way, but since everyone sits at the counter, you can have the mayor on one side of you and a trucker on the other side. Everyone gets along, since we’re all there for the same thing: great food and a lot of fun. My wife’s family is from Chile, and when my brother in law comes to visit(and he loves his seafood the way I love mine), Tark’s is a de rigeur stop, often right from the airport. Wherever we travel, everyone always searches for that«little gem» that the locals visit. Search no longer… here it is.

TARKSSSSS!!! Tarks was one of the first places I was taken to during my first visit in South Florida, and for good reason. Holy cow is this place good. It’s peak florida with its delectable seafood, cheap beer pitchers, and downright incredible chicken wings. Now I live in South Florida and not a day goes by that I don’t at least utter the name Tarks, like a Seafood Speakeasy, savored and secret, spoken from my sweet, buffalo-hot-sauced lips.

Definitely the place to go if you want to stay in your bathing suit or bumming around clothes! Don’t bother dressing for sure! And not the place for a first date! Fun place to people watch and to watch them shuck oysters and sling food. The place is Tony and super busy. We devoured a couple dozen oysters, wings and some beers and probably spent $ 25! Great food. Fun local haunt.

Have been coming here since I was a young lad. While the place itself is a dive with not the cleanest or most comfortable seating they offer a pretty good selection of seafood options, have killer wings and cook most of it right in front of you with a rotating crew which I feel like have been here for ages… Atmosphere is sport bar like in a galley style counter area with stools scattered around and a few seating areas outside as well. I usually go with steamers to start with blackened fish over a salad, as a sandwich or a entrée. The wings are good too. Don’t drink the water, chowder is not that special and when they are busy you cannot wait for them to serve you and need to take matters into your own hand :) Overall this place is pretty good but for a little bit of the inconsistency through the years will say four stars not five. If in the area and don’t mind a dive it is worth checking out for sure.

Pros: — Fresh and yummy food — Unbeatable pricing — Knowledgeable staff Cons: — Lacks ambiance — Not the cleanest of environments Recommendation: I am pretty sure you can order anything off the menu and it’s going to taste great. However, try the crab, shrimp, or oysters. All their items are fresh and delicious. Conclusion: This place never gets old. I’ve been there countless times and I always eager to return. The food is amazing and at a price that you can’t beat. What they lack in ambiance, they more than make up for in taste. I understand that they have to make some compromises due to the price point. The same food at a better location would easily cost about three times more. Last time I was there, I came across a gentleman who said he has been coming here since he was a child. That goes to say a lot about the place. In conclusion, I highly recommend the place. If you are someone to whom location matters a lot, you can always take out.

Let me preface by saying that Tarks is a local landmark that’s been there for close to 50 years and it looks like it has not changed one bit. It’s definitely a local dive bar, but once you experience it, you’ll be back. There’s no table service here, so find a spot to park yourself as seating is limited. All orders must be placed with Debra at the bar. There are not a lot menus here, as they tend to get stolen for souvenirs, and locals order without one. Fish fry, fried clams, chowder, wings and raw oysters are staples here. The fried grouper sandwich is a specialty as well as the grilled or blackened dolphin sandwich. Next, order your cold beverage. They have a good selection of draft and bottled beer, but no craft beer. The beer is served nice and cold and compliments the food perfectly. Once again this is a local dive joint, so don’t expect 5 star service, fancy linens or sparkling water. Expect to sit on a picnic table outside if you’re lucky, a roll of paper towels for napkins, cold beer and good eats. Debra will remind you when it’s time to go and to make room for next person. I’ll be back!

I had no idea this place existed until a friend from Chicago was here for the weekend and had been told he had to go. Tarks is truly a dive and I loved it. This place is really small but we were lucky enough to get a seat at the counter before it got busy. We wanted to try as much food as possible so we ordered the wings with Terminator sauce on the side, gator tail, steamed clams and curly fries. Be prepared to get your food as it’s ready, not all at once. This was actually nice because we could eat one thing while we waited for the next to be ready. First done was the gator tail. Nice bite sized chunks of gator fried to a golden brown. They serve them with some sort of yummy mustard sauce. Our fries came out next with our wings right behind them. The wings are nice and large and crispy. We ordered them hot with the Terminator sauce on the side. Next time I’ll get the Terminator sauce on them. It was delicious with just the right amount of spice. We ended up dipping our fries in the sauce too. We were disappointed to find out they no longer sell it bottled. My friend wanted to take some back with him. We indecisive about ordering the steamed clams or oysters. The waitress said definitely the clams so we listened. There were plenty in the basket for both of us and they were really good. Don’t think you’re getting any sort of frills in this place. Your food comes out in a basket and you’ll use paper towel but the food is good and the staff is friendly. The interaction between the chef, waitress and customers is great. They were singing and joking with everyone. I could have sat there all day just being entertained.

This place is a dive, not in the cool way. Has a little character, cheap seafood and cheap beer! I had the steamed combo and cold combo with New England clam chowder. The steam combo came with half a snow crab, clams and some shrimp. You can’t really mess up seafood, it was nothing fancy and there was some sand in the clams. Considering this was around 16 bucks, I wasn’t complaining. Like I said this place has a little character. Haha The cold combo came with raw clams, oysters, shrimp cocktail, conch salad. They were all great and again for around 16 bucks you’ve got a great deal! Their New England clam chowder was great!

Another fantastic small business. I had the oysters and soem chicken wings. Both were delicious, but I must say that the chicken wings were unreal. I’m going back for more soon. The server was a cool lady. She was attentive, helpful and fun.

So two visits in one month. Yum. I’ve had my share of overpriced and delicious crab and seafood since moving here and I always feel limited because of the prices. So, when I heard about this dive from the 60s I didn’t think it was a dive from the 60s. But it is an actual clam stand dive from the 1960s. Don’t expect service with China and glassware. Don’t expect more than your order being yelled back at you, precisely. Don’t expect tables and clothes and anything but an intimate dining experience with the folks sitting at the counter near you. Joanne is the boss lady. She commands and directs and barely cracks a smile. But she loves you. I’m telling you she does. Romeo shucks faster than I can talk. And I talk fast. Trust me. Dozen oysters. Check. 1 lb. crab — check. Freshly chucked fatty ouster bellies. Check. Clam chowder that has no finesse but loads of Delish with chunks of fresh clam and goodness — double check. Conch salad — goals. I read about a smoked fish dip — goals. This is Florida for me. Rusty pelican is fun and fantastic but I couldn’t justify that bill after enjoying myself like I do at Tarks. While I want to bring everyone I know here I still am holding this close to my chest because I’m gluttonously milking the Delishness all to myself. The briny salty fleshy oysters by the dozen cannot be missed. They are such a treat and I feel spoiled, and I deserve it. Here’s the good news — it’s been here since the 60s and they ain’t going anywhere. Don’t worry about the paint job, don’t worry about the waitress service, don’t worry that there are only two crab crackers in the whole place — stay who you are Tarks — I love you just this way!

Not a place you’d take someone for the first date. It’s not exactly the prettiest place since it was built in the 60s and nothing really looks updated. Environment is fast-paced, casual and the floors are littered. Kitchen is open for everyone to see and you can sometimes see the cooks take a break and eat. Came here for the Thursday night special where 10 oysters are $ 6.95(the normal price for a ½ dozen). We ordered 5 dozen raw oysters, a 10-piece buffalo shrimp and a 10 piece wing. Oysters were shucked in front of us and was extremely fresh, buffalo shrimp felt like they like were frozen beforehand and the wings(according to the BF) some of the best he’s ever had. If you’re sitting at the counter inside, be prepared to make some new friends as everyone is very close to each other and it seems to have a very steady crowd. There are a few tables outside but inside is where all the action is. The lady running the show who I shall refer to as «Boss Lady» is no-nonsense and hysterical to watch. Be prepared to order and don’t ask too many questions. Rumor has it this place was once approached by Guy Fieri to make an appearance on his show and the owner declined. Great place to eat, make sure you’re dressed comfortably, and don’t expect anything high class.

I hope you don’t get my coleslaw… I’ll come back to this… lol Been reading the other Unilocal reviews of my friends and decided to give it a try. Made one pass through the parking lot because it’s one of those«figure it out yourself lots» lacking stripes in a few areas. Circled the block and was in luck 2nd time around. Inside seating is limited to the bar area, some stand up eating around the window and a couple outside tables. Belly up and place your order. Pretty divey, I like that in a place. I waited for the guy in front of me to order and clear out then bellied up to the bar. Perused the menu but once I saw clams I was pretty well decided. The menu is chock full of seafood items from clam chowder and fish dip to sandwiches, clams, shrimp, fish sandwiches, wings-oh wait, not seafood… etc I also ordered some fried calamari since that another one of my faves. Calamari came out fairly quick, served with some cocktail sauce. Decent portion, lightly battered and fried, it was decent. 10 or so mins later the clams came out and my first observation, they were left it in the fryer too long chef… lol. It was basically without flavor, could’ve been fried anything for all I knew. Okay, now back to that coleslaw… just as the waitress was clearing my plates away, she asked if I tried the coleslaw to which I replied«no» and she said«great, I’ll save it for someone else» and put it back in the fridge… Service was great, prices were reasonable, the place was divey, the food was marginal, seemed like a locals place so I’ll be back

I finally had a chance to have lunch with my favorite co-worker. The old co-workers and I used to rave about this place so I was happy she wanted to give it a try. We walked in at noon and the bar seating was pretty full(pretty much the only seating inside). So after we looked at the menu for a few minutes, we placed our order at the bar and told them we would sit outside. I know its a hole in the wall place, but the tables outside were not cleaned this time. Out of the four tables outside, one table still had the plates on it after the customers left(they were gone before we got there). The table we ended up on had a puddle of water on it so we had to wipe it down ourselves before seating. I ordered my usual, the Grilled Mahi Sandwich Lunch special again which came with a drink, small container of cole slaw and fries for $ 8.50. Unfortunately, it was not as good this time. The bottom piece of bun was a little soggy and could’ve used a little more of their delicious garlic sauce. My friend ordered the fried grouper sandwich. She commented she did like the light breading on the fish, but the inside was pink. She went inside to and asked the cook if it wasn’t cooked enough. He looked at the pink pieces she picked out, said«its translucent so its cooked.» She sort of got stuck with it at that point. I felt really bad she had to pick the pink parts out and continue eating it around it, but felt more disappointed she didn’t have the experience I had the other times I went.
