Hannaford Supermarkets

I love Hannaford overall, but if this had been my first experience I would never shop here again. This is not my normal store, but I was in the area, so I figured I’d get my shopping and prescriptions done while I was there. It was horrible. The produce section, at 11:30a on a Saturday was out of almost everything. The few strawberries left were rotten, the garlic was OUT, the bananas were almost out. Basically there were huge gaps in every section. The two workers weren’t exactly moving to get things filled either. One ignored me completely when I tried to ask about the strawberries, the other tried to ignore me when I had a pricing question. And her mention of stocking, by the way, was to tip the entire box of produce upside down and just dump it in the tray. No wonder everything was so bruised up! The variety available at the fish section wasn’t much better, despite the fact that this is Maine. However, the case was at least stocked, and the guy at the counter was great. He’s the only reason this place gets two stars instead of one.
THEN the pharmacy and check out. I got my prescriptions, signed and went to the register, where I put the prescription bag with my groceries as I always do. At every other Hannaford, they simply toss them into one of my grocery bags and I prove I’m not stealing anything. Except apparently this time they didn’t. I don’t know what happened, but I got home to no meds in my bags, and a message from Hannaford because they’d just been returned to the pharmacy. Okay, things happen. But the pharmacy wanted me to come back and get them. This would have resulted in another hour and a half round trip ride, so I said no thank you, please just cancel the order and refund my money. I’ll get them closer to home. They tried to tell me this wasn’t do-​able. That I had to come back to get a refund too. The lady was incredibly rude and stuck me on hold several times while I was in mid-​sentence. I finally told them I would file a complaint with my insurance company and suddenly, MAGICALLY they decided they could give me a refund after all. But they have to mail it. We’ll see if ti actually shows up.
If you have the option, go to Rockland, or to the little grocery all my friends in the area shop at. Now I understand why they won’t do Hannaford.

Real decent grocery store up on the Maine coast. Hannaford’s is from Maine so you would expect the best here and you do get that. Plenty of parking, good number of checkouts in operations, and all the things you could think you need when up at your cottage.
And, even though there are plenty of seafood places about to get fish and the like, the fresh scallops and tuna would be good from here as well.
Definitely the place for the main Maine (hehe) food shopping even with the improvements to the Boothbay Harbor store.
