Best in Dallas. Authentic Japanese, at least as close as it gets in Dallas. The hot and cold plates are all excellent. The fish is very fresh.

I don’t understand what the hype about this place is. Rice was not cooked right(too dry) so everything was disappointing

There isn’t a lot of room at this restaurant. I’ve come for lunch and dinner. The bento box at lunch is not that good. But tempura mushrooms never made me very happy anyways. The sushi pieces are OK. I’m not a big fan of rolls. I usually only eat here on Monday nights when I’m craving sushi and all the other good sushi restaurants are closed.

Probably the best sushi I have ever had! So much flavor without all the sauce! The fish is very fresh and the price is well worth the value. I don’t know how to top it. Service was great. I will definitely be coming back when I am back in Dallas!

I came here for the first time a couple years ago, after seeing that Travel and Leisure had them on a list of best sushi restaurants in the US: and it did not disappoint. I finally returned again yesterday, and equally impressed. The sushi is very high quality, prepared well, and plated exquisitely. It’s a very small place, so reservations are highly recommended. And if you want to come with a party of more than 4 – 6, almost required. Service is excellent and the intimate experience is great. It’s not cheap, but for the superb quality it offers, it’s very reasonable — I’ve paid 50−100% more for similar(and sometimes worse) sushi elsewhere. I came for lunch this time on a Wednesday around 12:30, and it was busy, but only a brief wait for anyone. We got: — flash-fried shishito peppers: nice and lightly seasoned with salt — miso soup — sashimi lunch: 2 pieces of salmon, 3 of lean tuna, 2 of albacore, and 2 of yellowtail. nice sampler and a great value — unagi sashimi, salmon sashimi, tamago nigiri, california roll, and eel roll Unagi and salmon are my two major go-tos, and they’re as incredibly delicious and fresh here as anywhere else I’ve been. Those were the highlight of the meal for me. After that, the tamago here is very unique, seasoned lightly with what may be seaweed(some sort of greens), which with that and the perfect texture, leaves it as one of my favorites I’ve had. I also liked the touch of the miso soup being served without a spoon, echoing what I believe is more authentic in which you simply raise the bowl to your mouth to drink the soup. On the previous visit, I came with a larger group, and with a reservation was luckily able to get a big corner table for ~8 on a Friday or Saturday night. We got a nice selection of sushi, sashimi, and rolls, with something to please everyone, sushi connoisseur or not. Warm sake was well-enjoyed too. This place is really a gem and if you’re a sushi lover(sashimi and nigiri especially), you owe it to yourself to make a trip here. And I recommend getting a reservation.

This place was amazing! It’s very authentic Japanese food, so don’t come expecting spicy mayo drenched sushi rolls. We ate so much and our waitress was great. The tempura baby octopus was so light and fresh. The sushi rolls were dynamite. Amazing fish here! At some point, ask the waiter or waitress what she recommends and try one of their specials! It’ll be something so new and different and amazing. It was the best sushi I have ever had in my life, and I’ve had quite a bit of sushi lol

I write this 5 star review with hesitation, because I want this to remain a secret, neighborhood gem! This place probably has the freshest fish in Dallas. Also, it is extremely authentic Japanese cuisine, so don’t come here for pink ginger and rolls covered in 17 disgusting sauces. The have extremely rare, seasonal sushi/sashimi! Whatever your waitress tells you to try, just do it. Must tries: Japanese pumpkin and Japanese sweet potato tempura Uni 3 ways Kari roll(off the menu) Perch sushi(seasonal) Cod(marinated in a sweet miso sauce and cooked) Spicy tuna handroll(trust me-it is unlike anything you are used to) The bad part is they don’t take reservations for small parties and they only have around 10 tables and a sushi bar. It is like a boutique sushi restaurant! We love the intimacy of the place and the lightning fast service, due to the size.

Dropping by for a quick bite after the gym: 1. Soft shell crab rolls — it was 3.5÷5 the plus side is the crab was fresh and in a heated tempura which is a plus since most place making it too cold. 2. The flying fish egg — 3⁄5 as I asked if it red color and the waiter confirmed but turned out it was orange which is my least favorite type 3. Crispy tuna roll 5⁄5 … is my favorite of all as it is very different and the topping with the Japanese favoring powder is unusual but in a good way 4. Whole squid grilled was super delicious 5⁄5

They are not kidding when they chose to call this a bistro. It is teeny tiny. And loud. And teeny tiny. I feel like I would be more excited to write this review if it weren’t for the two gal pals sitting next to us with screeching voices in valley girl accents. The place is so small that we’re less than a foot away and I can’t escape them. I didn’t realize this place was tapas-style. They only serve small portions, so prepare yourself. Based on the amount of food, it’s pretty damn pricey. But based on the quality of seafood and the FRESHESTANDBESTPREPAREDURCHININDALLAS, it’s worth it. I recommend that you order fewer than you think you’ll need to get full. We had plans on having a light meal and hopping off to another place to continue the night. But they stagger the order so well that I felt comfortably full when we left. You can’t really go wrong with anything on the prepared food menu. We also had killer sushi and the smoked urchin. We didn’t try any of the rolls. Based on the quality of fish, I urge you to get sashimi or basic sushi — no sense in covering up the freshness with condiments.

I’ve been told by multiple people that I needed to try this place, so last night me and my boyfriend ventured out here for a nice Tuesday dinner. We got there around 6:45 and the restaurant was packed! We got there right in time and snagged the last two seats at the sushi bar. The inside is super small and only has a couple of tables, but has a ton of seating at the sushi bar which is always fun. The menu is very basic and has a lot of great traditional sushi rolls and sashimi. They have a daily special page that have their freshest fish for the day listed. They also have a wine, beer, and sake menu. We ordered two miso soups to start and shisito peppers. Both were great appetizers and the perfect start to our sushi dinner. The shisito peppers were so good! They were perfectly seasoned and had a generous portion for $ 7. WARNING — one out of every 10 are extremely spicy! We each had one and they are serious mouth burners. For our main course we ordered a couple orders of sushi(piece of fish over rice) — salmon, tuna, and Japanese snapper. All three were perfect, melt in your mouth, pieces of fish over rice. Very delicious! We also each got a hand roll which is basically just a sushi burrito, One of my favorites! You can turn any roll into a hand roll which I definitely recommend! We also got a normal salmon avocado, and crispy tuna roll. Both were just average but still really good. Solid sushi spot — not the best I have ever been to but still really good!

My friends and I went on a Thursday evening. It was a small place, like many other Japanese restaurants, so it seemed pretty packed for a weekday. Parking was hard to find because they share a small lot with multiple other businesses. However, they do offer a $ 5 valet service. We had high expectations due to great reviews, but we were not blown away. We ordered the Poki Ahi, Spicy Tuna Gyoza, and a variety of sushi rolls. Everything we ordered came out well-prepared in terms of presentation. However, we were underwhelmed by the taste and portion size. The portions were unusually small compared to other sushi places. We were still hungry after we finished eating and debated whether we should order more or go somewhere else. We decided on the latter.

Great little upscale place. On the more traditional side. Fish was very fresh. We had the salads with ginger dressing, a few rolls and the black cod shumai. Everything was delicious, but nothing particularly blew me away. I would definitely come back and do the omikase for a special occasion sometime, but at $ 80 plus per person we couldn’t justify it for just a Tuesday. Service was friendly, food was delicious, parking was frustrating.

Pretty cute little Sushi place in a strip center. We had quite a wait for a group of 6. We drank in their lounge area while we waited. Sushi was good but pricy. A good change if your looking for an alternative to Sushi Axiom.

QUICKHIT(Must Go vs. Consider Checking It Out vs. Pass/Don’t Bother): Consider Checking It Out Atmosphere: Yutaka is a small restaurant with a few tables in close proximity to each other. I don’t mind this, however, others expecting an intimate dinner may not enjoy«sharing» their conversation/meal with nearby diners. Naturally, with limited seating, availability can be difficult and may require an extensive wait. Be expecting that. Food/Drinks: The meal in its entirety was fine. I came here fully expecting to love the sushi rolls, but instead, preferred the entrée dishes. A few of my favorites include the HOT washu Kobe beef, the black cod shumai, and the yellowtail sashimi. The fish was fresh, delicate, and well prepared. My recommendation would be to sample a few of the more unique entrees instead of ordering multiple sushi rolls. Service: Prompt, and the waitstaff was friendly and willing to give their recommendations. Overall, my meal at Yutaka was satisfying, yet undistinguished in comparison to nearby Japanese dining establishments. Their forte, in my opinion, is the preparation of high-quality fish dishes executed in their entrée offerings. Give them a try.

Brothers and sisters, this is the real deal. There is some serious sushi to be had here. Come with an open mind and a full wallet… not that it is exceeding expensive, but be prepared for an experience. If you have ever been tempted to try«Omakse» or chef’s choice, this is the place to do it. If you are a little adventurous, but not willing to put your entire menu into the chef’s hands, they have a sashimi combo that changes based on what’s best that day. We started with the Yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, and it was not only beautiful, it was delicious. Next was the black cod shumai, which was probably the weakest dish we had. It was fine, but it didn’t wow us. Then things start to get blurry… we started ordering like crazy… white mushroom salad, very good. Mackerel sashimi, yes sir. Drago roll, more please! Everything was absolutely delicious. Next time I swear we are doing Omakase.

I am surprised to read all the mixed comments regarding YSB. My personal experience of this place has always been positive. We dined-in a lot and ordered to-go numerous times. The place is tucked in a small shopping center and it could be hard to locate for people who don’t live in the area. When you enter inside, it’s a bit compact with limited tables for seating, however the ambience and the way it is laid out definitely has a cozy neighborhood vibe to it. The sushi is always fresh and the way it’s prepared has been consistent. Also their non-sushi hot dishes: Ishiyaki Washu Kobe Beef, Kaki Age Tempura and Grilled Black Cod were mine big hits! The only complaint we have of this place is their lack of ventilation. The frying smell gets on your clothing. So if you are planning to hit the town afterwards, you may consider changing or put on lots of cologne or perfume to cover the deep fried smell:-)

After several attempts, I was able to have lunch at Yutaka sushi. Closed on Mondays, and with strict lunch hours from 11:45am to 1:45pm they don’t make it easy. The hours post 2pm, and I was turned away on one attempt at 1:50pm, so I cane in with some light hysteria. The finicky operation provided a sterile experience which might be calming but not comfortable, and $ 15-$ 25 lunch specials aren’t particularly loving either. I chose the cheapest lunch item on the menu — $ 9 chicken bento that came with 5 small pieces of unspecial chicken, 4 California roll pieces, a salad, fried tempura onions with bits of carrot and broccoli and 4 small pieces of fruit(2 kiwi, 1 orange piece and something else maybe) Feeling a bit unfulfilled after that bird food portion was demolished, I splurged and ordered a spicy tuna roll $ 9, which had cucumber and in my mind cut the tuna portion, and added an unwanted crunch to my roll. Stingy and OCD exactness permeated the otherwise clean and tranquil small space, enough that I wouldn’t feel the need to ever come back for lunch given the pricepoint. A very safe middle of the road sushi place that just didn’t have enough pizazz, hospitality or value for me. Gong.
