This is one of the best restaurants in DFW, without question. But compared to the Uchi’s in Austin and especially Houston, this one pales in comparison. So if you want to experience everything Uchi has to offer, go to Houston or at least Austin.

Ridiculously good. We just let the waiter pick and deliver and he did a great job. Unique tastes and all staff were knowledgeable about all of the offerings. So glad we went here!!! Ask them for the sushi with the watermelon, tuna and mint.

The food here is very very good — I can see why this place is rated as the best sushi restaurant in Texas. Every plate is designed carefully to bring out the texture and the flavor of the fish. I went during happy hour so the prices were really great too. I will have to come back here when I visit the fam in Dallas for a full dinner experience!

I’ve been to Uchi twice now, 1st during their soft opening, and now for a double date. The food is exquisite. I recommend trying the 6 course signature tasting(will have to try the 10 course later). With every plate the flavors were delicate, layered and combined with perfection. There was a complex mix of subtleness with each bite. And the end of our meal the Chef/Owner himself, Tyson Cole brought over the Foie Gras sushi! Which is the best thing I’ve ever eaten in this life and current incarnation.

Outstanding experience. Unique combinations. First time I ate creative sushi that wasn’t weird and unflattering in taste. We couldn’t stop ordering bc we wanted to taste everything and I’m glad we did. Everything was fresh, unique, different, and tasted amazing! Tip: dishes are small and prices are more than average for the size. I will defiantly go on their happy hour which pays off and you get to taste a bigger variety of dishes.

This is a kind of weird review, and it involves bathroom-habits, so… be warned. I went in to Uchi about two months ago, and it was a great dinner and experience. However, this review is about something different: Going to the bathroom! I’ve had chronic stomach issues, and, probably, IBS for the better part of two years. Anytime I eat something oily or spicy, it would give me a sour stomach. After my dinner at Uchi, well, I’m cured! I have no idea if it’s related in any way, but I’ve seriously been so much better after eating here(I had a bunch of sushi, meats, and several servings of sake). I’ve eaten all sorts of different foods now, and I haven’t had any stomach distress since! I also use the bathroom a lot more frequently now! So, yeah, eat at Uchi and maybe it’ll cure your stomach problems. Five stars!

I’ve been here a few times now and have been lucky enough to try almost half the things on their menu. Overall, Uchi isn’t your traditional Japanese restaurant, it’s more like urban Japanese Fusion. Dishes I Loved & Recommend: –hot rock(wagyu beef and ponzu) –hama kama(yellowtail collar, fennel, orange, and chili) –nabe(duck, mushroom and chili) –sake toro(salmon belly) –foie nigiri(seared foie gras) –hokkaido uni(sea urchin) –fried milk(chocolate milk, toasted milk, iced milk sherbert) The foie nigiri and fried milk are, in my opinion, the two dishes that definitely stand out and are unlike any other. The foie nigiri is like a sweet explosion in your mouth and I probably could eat a million of these bad boys. The fried milk is delicious and what they are best known for. The ambiance is very trendy and the service was excellent. Wait times can be extremely long, and up to two hours. I would highly recommend making a reservation if possible. Can’t wait to come back!

Uchi Dallas has the best sushi rolls I’ve tried. Their rolls are very unique and tasty! This is a fine dining sushi restaurant so don’t come under-dressed! We came at 4:30 and had a reservation. There were people already waiting in line to be sat as we came in thru their doors. Noise level was adequate. We sat by the bar so there was a sushi chef serving the two of us. Sushi portions were excellent and they filled me up! The«Ham and Eggs» Roll stood out to me the most, but overall the rest of our meal and sushi were amazing! Definitely coming back here again.

Spectacular experience. Sat at the sushi bar and was taken care of by Jeff. He fixed 3 dishes for me that were unbelievable. They also brought fried Brussels sprouts in sweet chile oil. Do not miss those.

Came during happy hour, or as Uchi calls it Sake Social, on a Tuesday with some girlfriends. The restaurant was busy but we didn’t have any issues being seated immediately. We placed our drink orders, some from the happy hour menu & some not. I went with a white wine our waiter recommended, one of my friends went with the Saracco moscato, & the others got Takara Nigori sake. The moscato was more on the flowery side instead of refreshingly sweet & fruity. However, the sake was pretty tasty! When it was time to place our entrée orders, our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, & extremely accommodating. I feel like we ordered nearly one of everything on the menu by the end of the night! We tried the Spicy Crunchy Tuna, Zero Sen, Yokai Berry, Manchi cure, Bacon Otoshi, & Walu Walu — all from the Sake Social menu. The best & tastiest item you can order from the menu is the Manchi Cure. It’s a dish that has a slice of smoked Yellowtail, with Marcona almonds, & Asian pear on top of yucca crisps. All of the flavors compliment each other really well! The Manchi Cure is a must try/must order kind of dish! We also got a couple orders of the Atlantic Salmon(sake), Salmon Belly(sake toro), & an order of Yaki(oysters). The sashimi was very fresh & delicious! However, the oysters weren’t as impressive. We had room for dessert so we went with an order of the Peanut Butter Semifreddo & the Olive Gelato. We weren’t a fan of either desserts. Both had the potential to be very tasty but the flavors clashed & were overall… different. They weren’t terrible. It’s just not what you’d expect from desserts that should leave the last impression after the amazing entrees. We’ll just skip dessert next time :/ Uchi isn’t your regular sushi restaurant. They pride themselves on the ultimate sushi experience! It’s a great place to enjoy happy hour with friends & I would highly recommend checking it out! However, the dishes are lite in size so if you’re in a killer mood for sushi, I would stick to the sushi restaurant you usually frequent.

Just as good as the Houston location. I suppose that’s the point. Went for happy hour. Spent $ 50 instead of $ 150. I’d say that was money well spent. Ordered everything on today’s «sake social»(this is what Uchi calls happy hour lmao) menu except the veggie roll and pork belly. I’m not wasting $ 6 on a veggie roll and pork belly is too fatty for my taste. STOP. JUDGING. ME. Doubled up on some items, like the zero sen roll and walu walu(my favorite cooked fish dish in the world besides the black cod miso at Nobu). 10⁄10 would obviously eat again. Forgot why I hate the uptown crowd. It’s just as bad on Wednesday night. PS don’t bring your crying kids. It’s annoying.

Yes. Absolutely amazing. Both times I have been here the food is just wonderful. I think that is expected and obvious. Here’s the less obvious: Went in on a Saturday night at around 8p, expecting at least an hour wait. True. Wait was about 1.5 hours. Didn’t get seated until 2 hours. I was with a group of HANGRY people, so we were pretty cranky by the time we got seated. We sat on the patio while we were waiting. Two different hostesses came out three times with free apps, starting at the entrance. After the first time, I politely requested next time to start on the far side. Didn’t happen, so I asked again. Third time it still didn’t happen. Patio servers were kind of rude, but the hostess made up for it. After I voiced that we had already been waiting forever, she made it a priority to get us seated. I honestly think they forgot about our party. First time I went, server was very knowledgeable and showed us a great time. Second time, server was not so knowledgeable, and not as diverse a selection of food(we let server pick what to bring out), but food was good nonetheless. Overall, food was amazing and made up for it all.

TL;DR Awesome flavor combos, 2 people everything but drinks $ 200, awesome service, make a reservation! At the risk of sounding like everyone else, when in Dallas head to Uchi. Make a reservation at least a week in advance when possible.(There was only one time slot available when I tried OpenTable) They’ll call to confirm a couple days ahead of time. Being from DC I am used to overpriced, touristy places but no have no fear– while this place is trendy, the prices are decent, the service is so friendly– never rushed, and the food is AMAZING. My boyfriend was craving a steak as usual and I was more interested in the cocktail menu, as usual. While Uchi won’t deliver quite like Ocean Prime or Nick & Sam’s for steaks, or quite frankly for drink options either, the menu is so diverse I highly recommend you check it out. This place is one for the foodies. The combination of flavors/ingredients was so well done I can’t wait to go back to Dallas *just* to taste different menu items! We came here prepared to leave hungry, we heard the serving sizes were small and you’d have to eat like 20 of one dish to feel slightly full. At the end of the meal appetizers, entrees, and dessert we were slightly under $ 200 for 2 of us which was a shock and impressive– that never happens! So while this restaurant may be trendy and ‘impossible’ to get into– it’s affordable. Sake Social Menu: To be safe, do as we did and order one of everything from their«tastings» menu. Each dish is about $ 8 and they keep them rotating coming out, enough for 2 people to have 1 or 2 bites each. GOFORIT. If you’re patient enough once you taste a flavor you like they can point you to an entrée of similar consistency. However we did not wait. Makimono: The Shag roll was awesome and BIG for Uchi serving sizes. I was almost satisfied after finishing that roll! Hot Tastings: Everyone on Unilocal recommended the Hot Rock but when we tried to order it our waitress *insisted* we try another dish(of course, a more expensive option). We liked the second dish better, apparently the Hot rock means your cooking the Wagyu beef yourself, no thank you. We opted for the bacon steakie and gyutoro(72 hour short rib). Serving size, predictable, taste was awesome! Dessert: Fried Milk of course. Highly recommend it has something for everyone, bread lovers, cream fraiche lovers, milk lovers, chocolate lovers, ‘instagram my food’ lovers. Side note– Looked like a perfect first date night spot — ask for a seat with the sushi chefs and you’ll have a great convo all night long. We also did end up eating a second, slightly smaller dinner a few hours later. :-)

So I admit, I was very hesitant to try this place for the longest time because of the steep prices, I mean, how can we possibly be satisfied with the tiny servings for those prices when we have had good sushi at other places for about half as much? But I’m glad we tried this place and now I understand. We were originally going to do the chef’s tasting but then upon hearing that most of the items werent even sushi, we decided to make our own tasting! We ordered a variety of things, let me try to recall each one! — machi cure: the baby yellowtail was nice and tender, however this dish was basically like a more complex yellowtail heaven. i thought the yellowtail itself was good but there was just way too much going on in this dish — walu walu: this escolar was cooked oh so perfectly. it was very tender but nicely charred on the outside and had a sauce that complemented the flavors very well(would be good with rice!) — hot rock wagyu: oh my, this meat was so marbled and beautiful but it was sliced so so thin so it was really easy to overcook this on the hot rock. it did not need any seasoning as the fat melting tasted like butter and the rock itself gave it enough flavor. this was good to try but i wouldnt come back for it. — madai carpaccio: this is the 2nd best thing we had here. I’ve never had sea bream before and was a little iffy at first as I usually dont care too much for white fish but this was fantastic. it was tender and melted in my mouth, the toppings that it came with was great to complement and not distract from the fish’ natural flavors. de-li-cious!!! — tasmanian sea trout sashimi: this was tender but not as flavorful as salmon toro(our waiter suggested we get this instead) and i was actually slightly disappointed. he said it would go well with the madai and it did, although not amazing. I wouldn’t get this again. — brussel sprouts: this is definitely the best brussel sprouts ive ever had! it was seasoned very well and wish I had rice to eat with it. I could eat this by itself as a meal! — fois gras sashimi: OMG. WOW. this was amaaazing!!! it was like flavored butter melting in your mouth exploding with flavor! this was our faaaavorite out of everything we’ve tried. i will definitely come back for this!!! — sea urchin bowl: this was not too bad, the sea urchin was of high quality and they put a good amount in the rice bowl, but overall just wasn’t too impressive — fried milk: this was reaaally interesting! it legitimately tastes like fried milk and it was quite good. there was an assortment of chocolate to go with the milk cooked differently that went very well with it. yum! overall, this place was wonderful. yes it is expensive, however it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be as we actually walked out quite full. the quality of their ingredients can be noticed very easily as you take each bite of their food. we spent under $ 150 picking our own dishes, and i would recommend that vs doing the chef tasting as our friends that did that only got half of what we did and spent more! this will definitely be a «go back for special occasions» kind of place for me!

There is a time and place for rubber fish nigiri or even rolls overstuffed with tempura jalapenos and tri-colored sauces. We’re in America after all. The plague of detestable counterfeit sushi and people that can’t hold their chopsticks correctly for the life of them are to be expected. I winced a bit while watching a lady at the wine bar, her hand so close to the front of her chopsticks like it was a little bird pecker. No matter your expertise in sushi is, even if you are just a Spider Roll kind of chap, there is always time for Uchi. Uchi is more than another sushi spot, waving their bloated specialty rolls in your face. Uchi is an effort, a giant push to bring the real art of sushi to the people that desire it and the people that absolutely need to know it. It is the passion of what it means to make perfectly cooked rice, slice fish at the appropriate temperature, and flavor it so that there is not a need to make soupy soy sauce and cheap wasabi paste concoctions. There are two qualms that I am able to set aside though because of the quality of what I was given: Firstly, the Omakase was not the kind where the chef is able to get creative and make unique pieces that are not on the menu. Uchi’s Omakase is a preset selection taken from the menu. The ten course includes the seasonal menu while the six is selected from the permanent menu. Secondly, it is expensive. To have their fish flown in fresh from all over the world, to Texas of all places, justifies it in my mind. While disappointing that is to me, it is just a price we pay for living here. Because of the latter, Pat Baby was only able to take me here for a special occasion. We purposely went all out with the ten course Omakase with a few small additions that made this the best sushi experience I have had in Dallas so far. The mix of flavors that I experienced: tangy, sweet, mild, oily, clean, but greatly profound, lets me know that great care and detail were put into each dish. My favorite fish was their Matodai, fresh, bright and a pop of citrus that slowly spreads across your taste bud pasture. Even the simple unagi was perfectly prepared. Unlike being soggy, heavy, and overly fatty, it was light and had a wonderful crunch to it with just enough sauce that still let you taste the fish. I must stop here because I could rave for days. What you need to know is that if you like fish, are one with fish, dream of swimming with fish, Uchi will set the bar for you with sushi in Dallas. I have absolutely no desire to eat sushi anywhere else in the metroplex right now. I’m just focused on getting a second job so I can continue to come back here.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our one year after we heard that this place was the best of the best for sushi in Dallas, and to be honest– I was disappointed. We decided to get the chefs tasting menu which consisted of a 10 course meal for the two of us. After getting a couple of the dishes, we realized that the food portions were small, and honestly– I wasn’t impressed with a majority of them. I felt like the dishes were trying way too hard to be impressive with sushi being topped with pears and etc. but the fish was so fresh that you should let the quality speak for itself; instead it was drenched in purée and mints. So after realizing the portions were not enough for two people(and being 175 bucks) we order more sushi and the waiter seemed offended that the tiny pretentious portions were too small. Overall the quality of food was fine, and the service was good, but if someone asked me to go back I would decline.

I’ve had Uchi in Houston before so I was super excited about one opening up in Dallas. The menus are a tad bit different but overall the food quality is the same, divine. All the sushi just melt in your mouth. The hot dishes are delicious. The duck is flavorful and quite filling compared to the rest of the menu so be aware of that. I advise anyone who comes here to get the brussel sprouts even if you don’t like them. They are the best. Period. They’re cooked well with a slight crisp and the sauce is so addicting. There’s really no way you could go wrong with anything on the menu so definitely try it out. I believe now that it’s been open for awhile, it’s much easier to get in without a reservation I will say I liked the way the scallop sushi is prepared more in Houston than in Dallas but that’s about the biggest gripe I have with this location. If you haven’t been here, it definitely needs to be on your list of places to try in Dallas.

Just WOW! Every meal I’ve had at Uchi is memorable, but this last visit was by far the best. Ever since they’ve opened in June, I’ve already eaten her 3 times, and I’ve eaten at Uchi and Uchiko in Austin. I’m definitely a fan, if not a loyalist. Favorite items I’ve had almost the entire menu, but there a few standouts. Ok, maybe a bunch… 1. A5 nigiri — highest grade wagyu beef available, VERY tender, wish it was cooked more though 2. Machi cure 3. Walu walu 4. bajiru muru kai — mussels 5. Nabe — rich and filling 6. Gyutoro — fall apart tender short rib 7. ham & eggs 8. shag roll 9. fried milk — most delicious and unique dessert I’ve ever had 10. karaage — best chicken I’ve ever eaten 11. bacon steakie — best pork I’ve ever eaten Pass 1. bacon otoshi — less tasty version of bacon steak 2. New yak gyutoro 3. Hot rock beef and scallop — not very flavorful 4. Age dofu Service — 5⁄5 In comparison to Austin, it is absolutely phenomenal here. Everyone is so extremely attentive. On my last visit, I had dinner with my best friend, and we sat at the sushi bar. We were very well taken care of by Chef An. He was friendly and personable, and completely elevated our dining experience. We ate for literally 3 hours. We learned so much about the food and the chefs. After this experience, I’ll definitely continue to sit at the sushi bar. Overall, Uchi is an absolute must try. I’ve been raving it to anyone and everyone since it has opened in Dallas. **tips — happy hour has come reduced priced items, but the price reflects the portion size. Plan to spend $ 50-$ 75 per person to really enjoy your meal. Portion size is small.

In my 9 years of Unilocaling, I have never been able to pick a meal to put down in the«My Last Meal on Earth» section of my Unilocal profile. Until now! Do you ever have something so good that when you bite into it, time seems to stop and everything just fades away? The foodie part of me lives for those moments and I am happy if I just get that feeling once in awhile. When I dined at Uchi, I had that moment SEVERAL times throughout the meal. It was amazing! Below are some of my highlights. Uni with Black Truffle — This was something my sushi chef created(I was sitting at the sushi bar). Living in LA, I get to have a lot of great uni but my mind was blown when I ate this. Foie Gras Nigiri — It seriously felt like it melted in my mouth and the flavor was incredible! King Crab Nigiri — There was so much flavor within one bite! The king crab was meaty and sweet. Kaki Uni — I don’t always like having this combination together because I feel like sometimes the oyster overpowers the uni but this worked so well. Wagyu on a hot rock — I’ve had this at other restaurants and this didn’t wow me but it was good. Always fun to cook meat on a hot rock! I honesty cannot wait to go back. Thank you to Chef Wato for such a great experience!

Is it good? No. It’s fan-freaking-tastic! Uchi is bar-none the best sushi I’ve had in Dallas and certainly one of the best restaurants overall. It manages to live up to all the hype but keep in mind you’ll be paying a nice chunk of change for a relatively small amount of food. My dinner with three beers was almost a Benjamin with tip. Completely unplanned, I stopped in to dine at the bar with a buddy on a Tuesday night around 9pm. The place was at full capacity. Since it was my first time here, we ordered a wide variety of dishes — cooked+raw and traditional+non. The variety and quality of the raw fish here is unmatched in the metroplex. They have an extensive menu of daily specials. We went with the server’s recommendations and everything was bliss. Creative and delicious flavors galore! The Hama Chili(baby yellowtail sashimi with ponzu, thai chili, and orange) was my favorite dish. It’s not very spicy so don’t be afraid. On the cooked side, the ham and eggs(pork belly roll with yolk custard) and the brussel sprouts were both uniquely delicious selections. The delicately nuanced Walu Walu(grilled escolar) was my favorite cooked item. While the tempura shrimp and shrimp spring roll were good, there are far more interesting menu items I’d redirect to — any of the cool tastings. The Fried Milk dessert is a must! We originally ordered one to split but after we inhaled that one, we ordered a second. The atmosphere and the service were top notch as expected. Eat at the bar(first come first serve) for a more lively experience. My top picks: Hama chili(or any of the cold baby yellow tail dishes), walu walu, brussel sprouts, fried milk.
